  1. +1 on the LN drain plug. Much harder material(anodized aluminum) than stock, and takes a larger allen wrench (10mm vs 8mm).
  2. I have the Becker CDR220 as well and an iPod Touch 4g. I went with the Becker Sound cable and am very pleased with the results. It's one wire, not a bundle of RCA plugs. It charges the unit as well. Most other solutions will not work with 4G as the electrical requirements are different. The Blitzsafe link mentions iPod Touch and iPhone, but doesn't specifically mention 4g. I would bet that it won't work with 4g.
  3. (From Rennlist.com) Porsche AC Diagnostics (undocumented, unsupported feature) To access diagnostics: Hold down the Recirculating & Air up buttons for 5 seconds. The + - buttons go up and down through the list of "c" codes. The center vent button switches the left display between the "c" code and its actual value. Press the Auto button to exit. 0c - ERL 1c - Oil Temp? 2c - Inside temp. Sensor mounted in the aspirator assembly at the side of the dash. 3c - Outside temp. Sensor located inside the air inlet of the A/C unit. 4c - Outside temp. Sensor located in front grill of the radiator. The data is fed to the Climatronic from the instrument cluster. When not moving, the instrument cluster OBC temp display retains it's last setting until moving. This is to prevent heat emanating from the radiator affecting the temperature sensor. The A/C unit uses the lower of the two outside air temp values in determining fresh-air temp. 5c - Outside temp. (matches OBC outside temp display) 6c - Coolant temp. 7c - Footwell discharge temp. 8c - Sun sensor (dash top) 9c - Sun sensor. 10c - Passenger compartment fan speed. 11c - Passenger compartment fan voltage. 12c - Temperature mix Flap command 1=COLD, 100=HOT 13c - Temperature mix Flap position 14c - Central Flap command 15c - Central Flap position 16c - Footwell/Defrost Flap command 17c - Footwell/Defrost Flap position 18c - Recirculation Valve command 1=OFF, 100=RECIRC 19c - Recirculation Valve position (feedback) 20c - Vehicle speed in kph, updating only once per second. (real speed, not speed+safety margin as in the speedometer) 21c - Engine RPM in hundreds. This too only updates once per second. 22c - ? 23c - ? 24c - Sun sensor, exterior lights switch & panel lights control (term. 58 & 58d voltage) - used for A/C panel display illum. 25c - ? 26c - ? 27c - ? 28c - Fan speed? 29c - ? 30c - Engine run time in seconds (255 max.)(=0xff) 31c - Timing counter 32c - Displays test 33c - Software version? Mine states 3.4 34c - ? 35c - Outside temp. from inlet sensor (filtered?) 36c - temp?
  4. I have an iPod Touch 4G connected to my Becker 220, using a cable from Becker Sound. It's a single cable which also charges the iPod. The sound is excellent - no distortion or interference of any kind. I was surprised at the $110 price tag, but I believe this is the only option available (for 4G) and it works great. I highly recommend it.
  5. I had the same issue in my 2000 C2 Cab. Here is my convoluted story: I removed the phone mount, which revealed some large holes in the console side piece. I found a used matching side piece for sale and installed it. Then I bought a bluetooth speaker phone adapter that clips to the visor, so I didn't have to mount the phone, plus it's now hands-free. After a road trip that had me stuck in traffic for about 3 hours with little or nothing worthwhile on the radio, I decided to add an iPod. I bought an iPod touch and ordered a cable from Becker Sound. ($100+). Needing a place to mount it, I replaced the original console side piece (the wider version designed for cellphones) and used velcro tape to mount the iPod. I'm very happy with this set up.
  6. Thanks. It seems counter-intuitive at first glance, but now it makes sense. Anyway, I would think that the brightest combination would be a Red LED with clear lens, but would be more costly.
  7. Wouldn't white LED lights be better for brake lights and tail lights since the lens is red?
  8. I recently had the IMS done on my MY2000 C2 Cab Tip, along with a few other things. LNEngineering IMS RMS X51 Oil Pan Low Temp Thermostat The total was $3,200 including 8.5% sales tax I think the IMS alone would have been around $2k. It's a few hundred less for a 6-speed.
  9. Would it be ok to keep the car covered with the battery maintainer hooked up? I know batteries give off gas when being charged. I'll be leaving my car unattended for 3 weeks in winter weather and am considering getting a tender.
  10. Another option is to buy a pair of used stock mufflers and have the mods done to them. Then you can do the install when convenient. Afterward you can sell your stock mufflers to someone else who wants to do the mod. That's what I've done, though I'm not finished. I installed one side today and had to stop (long story). Anyway, even with just the one side installed, the car sounds great! Now it sounds like a sports car. Here's a tip that I wish I would have thought of before proceeding - If you buy mufflers from someone out of town, have them ship them directly to Darin Fister. I had mine shipped to me and then I shipped them to Darin. That's $50 wasted.
  11. I recommend replacing the stock oil drain plug with the magnetic one made by LNEngineering. It's made with a harder aluminum (alloy?) and takes a 10mm allen wrench, so it's more resistant to stripping. (I am not affiliated with LNE). If I remember correctly, I paid about $30 for it. Also, though this is a source of much debate, many feel that 5w 40 is a better choice.
  12. Posts about IMS failure causes and rates are highly speculative and I wouldn't put to much weight on any of the theories. For peace of mind, you should either get an extended warranty that covers engine replacement, or have the IMS upgraded to the LNEngineering version. My two cents.
  13. Looking to do this on my my2000 3.4 "place the small hose on the intake hose to the pvc expose part with the hose clamp and you are done." This is the part I don't understand. Is the "rubber cap" really a coupler instead of a cap? If it's a cap, how do you connect the intake hose to it?
