  1. Just out of curiosity why do you say that shops are charging AWD cars close to 2K when according to Loren and Porsche repair estimates both RWD and AWD cars require the same 3.8 hours for the job. From what i understand the repair is the same no matter what platform. Thanks
  2. Hello I am in search of a good indy shop in Denver, CO that can do a clutch replacement for me for a fair price. So far i have received 3 quotes in the 12-1500 range and according to several on this board it should be less thank 1K correct <_< . Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks
  3. Hello: Well i unfortunately think i have hit the point of needing to change out the clutch in my C4. Question is with it being AWD does it require more work to get the trans dropped out (disconnect the front diff) and if so what kind of time can i expect to have to pay for. From what i gather an experienced tech can do it in most rwd cars in around the 4-6 hour range. Is this the same for the C4? Another thing is since im going to bring them the parts what do you guys suggest as far as a parts list? Are there any tsb's from porsche that i should address while the trans is out? Thanks for your help in advance....

  5. sorry to have been so vague and thanks for the reply, the squeeking sounds similar to when a belt squeeks on a motor just not as loud. When the clutch is pushed to the floor (and the entire time it is down there) there is a ssssqqqqquuuuueeeeekkkkkkkk noise coming from somewhere in the rear of the car. Unfortunately since i was by myself at the time i was not able to engage the clutch (push it in) and get to the back of the car to investigate. My fear is that you hear of a clutch going far enough to actually damage the flywheel and if my car were to this point what would that sound like. Is that possibly the cause of this "mystery noise"? I just dont want to be doing damage to the vehicle, but also dont want to freak out at a little noise from the rear end if it is potentially nothing. Thanks again....
  6. Yesterday when i took the car out i noticed upon start-up a squeeking coming from the rear of the car. Upon playing around figured out that this little "squeek" is only there while the clutch is engaged. For some time i have been suspect as to if my clutch had issues or not due to a very high engagement point in the pedal travel but since the car exibited none of the tell tale signs of clutch failure just figured it was in my head. My only concern now is that in waiting to fix a worn clutch the squeek is from the flywheel. Anyone have any input?
  7. That thing is HOT and personally i think money well spent. Bottom line is that yours is now different than everything else out there and no doubt the car will turn more heads with its new look. If it helps to take some of the "sting" out of that first comment know that this guy in CO is GREEN with envy..... :P
  8. Just as a question are you using Hub Centering Rings on your rim install. When i put the 19in wheels on my 996 i was having a similar issue b/c the wheel manu forgot to include the rings (small plastic pieces that go on the hub to center the weeel) with the shipment. Two days later they arrived, i put them on and bingo the issue was resolved. I would assume if you and your wheel shop went to the trouble of measuring run out it was thought of but who knows..... Andrew
  9. Probably a dumb question but I figured id put it out there. Is there any way to adapt the big red rotors/calipers from an 06 Carrera S onto a 99 C4? If so what parts would be needed? Thanks
  10. Thanks for the advice Chuck ill give the clutch bleed a try this weekend.
  11. Hi: Lately i have feeling as if my clutch is engaging rather late in its travel "stroke" and really only starts to engage with about 1in left in the travel. The amount of pressure needed to push the pedal seems to be normal and to tell you the truth i cant remember if it has always been this way. I know when i bought the car i remember thinking "wow this clutch feels funny" but i would assume that is because my 996 is my first hydraulically operated clutch vehicle. Can anyone here offer your experience on where your clutch engages at. Is the last inch of travel normal??
  12. It really is a shame that this is allowed to go on and it truly is a testament to this board and the enlightenment posted within that can keep things like this from happening. As just one more example of a crooked "Authorized Porsche" shop when i first bought my 996 i was told in a pre-purchase inspection that my brake pads were at about 30% and needed changing soon. I figured hey why not and had it done. After being charged for 2 hours labor and a ton for the pads (that come to find out probably only needed the fronts changed and not the rear) all was well for a few days. After that time period the rear right was squealing like a stuck pig. I brought it back to them (45min drive each way) twice and each time they told me they rectified the issue. Come to find out by dousing the pads with anti squeal lubricant which would work for a few days then of course the issue returned. After consulting this board and reading numerous posts about how easy a pad change is in these cars i got my hands dirty. Low and behold after the 15 minutes it took me to get the pads out of the caliper there was no anti-resonance pads in that caliper. I called the shop and he told me that he specifically remembered replacing them and they must have fallen out (can you believe that FALLEN OUT) and that he reused my old ones to save me some money. He refused to pay the $100 for the new ones (all the way around) that i had to pick up at my local dealer after reading that it is recommended to replace them with fresh with new pads. My point in sharing is that if there is anyone out there like me that has some, but not a ton, of mechanical experience and you are hesitant about messing up something do yourself the favor and get your hands dirty. There is nothing more rewarding than fixing your "baby" yourself and you will have the peace of mind that you were not taken to the cleaners for your repair. A big thanks to Loren, Tool Pants, and the rest of you who post and share your knowledge and help out the "less skilled" like myself. Three Cheers for you guys!!!
  13. SIRIUS makes several units that are a seamless install in the car and use a suction cup that stick to the windshield for mounting. This truly is the most effective "removable" type of system as you will not have to drill your mounting bracket into the dash or use any type of adhesive on the dash/console.The unit gets power from your cigarette lighter and transmits the audio signal to your existing stereo via a selectable FM channel (over 100 to pick from to insure there are no interference issues). It is a very easy DIY install and should take no more than 30min to acomplish. Just my two cents but any way you go Satellite Radio is a godsend that makes the driving experience that much greater......
  14. Greetings all does anyone know if seats from a 997 will direct fit into a 996. If so how about the wiring were the same molexes used from the two models and is a direct fitment even close. Along another line I seem to be having trouble with the search function on the forum in that if I try to search something like proper wheel torque specs and put in wheel + touque hoping to find posts with these two words in them i get a ton of results having absolutly nothing to do with the topic. Any ideas i'm sure its me but I thought I was on the right track. Thanks in advance! 1999c4CO
  15. On my 99C4 i went up to a 19x8 in the front and a 19x9 in the back with no issues at all. I believe they are a 32mm offset if i'm not mistaken Sorry I meant 19x10 on the back
