  13. Well, let's just trip started out interesting at best. I'm working on resizing my pics as I don't have my old program on the new computer. Route: -I-10 from Beaumont, TX to San Antonio -Hwy 90 from San Antonio through Del Rio, then down 385 to Big Bend National Park (this is where the first fun part of the trip started ). Had two belts break on the rear tire in the middle of nowhere in West Texas. We called Porsche North America, (no dealers had the size in stock), called every major tire chain in 3 states and the only one that had one in stock was Phoenix Arizona. So we decided not to camp at Big Bend but to head towards Phoenix at night so the roads wouldn't be quite as hot, to melt down the spare faster than we could get there. Needless to say, 14-16 hours later at 50mph we arrived in Phoenix, AZ. Have to admit leave it to the germans to make a trunk that fits a spare, but not the actually rim & tire, lol (see the pics). So onwards we went: -118 from Big Bend to back to I-10 -I-10 all the way to Phoenix AZ (Props to Discount Tire in Mesa, AZ for holding tires for me) Side Note- I donated a Passenger Side Headlamp Washer Cover to the City of Tucson, AZ. Some hobo should have a nice chrome plastic piece, lol. I looked for it for about 45 minutes, and then gave up as I was getting drenched from a thunderstorm. -I-10 from Phoenix to Hwy 80 into Tombstone, AZ. Tombstone was awesome, we actually stayed several nights as there was plenty to do (with the occasional blast to Sierra Vista through some decent curvy roads) Next the plan was to explore AZ to the Grand Canyon, but with all of the issues so far, we decided to stay toward the south, and take the back roads back to Carlsbad. - Hwy 191 (AZ) to Hwy 180 (NM) through Silver city -Hwy 180 to Hwy 152 (Absolutely Awesome 180 hairpins with 100+ft drop offs, no rails, through Mimbres Mountains / Gila National Forest. Strongly recommend for anyone, by far the best road I have ever traveled. -152 to I-25 to Las Cruces, through El Paso - I-25 to Hwy 180/62 to Hueco Mountains (State Park w/ Ancient Indian Pictographs) We actually slept in the car since we arrived after hours, and used border patrol inspection station rest rooms for emergencies - From Hueco Mountains went through Guadalupe Mountains National Park to Carlsbad, NM to eat, and then back to Carlsbad Caverns. The bat flight was neat, but the best part was the 70 degree cavern that I could definitely get used to. - Hwy 285 from Carlsbad NM to Pecos (the only place to stay was Motel 6, camping was not allowed at Carlsbad due to the recent fires) - Hwy 285 from Pecos, TX to Fort Stockton - I-10 to San Antonio to Catch dinner on the River walk and Harry Potter in 3d on the IMAX, loll. Then back home. In summary, the trip was over 3,000+ miles, through 3 states with the following fun: 1.) Two separate broken belts on rear tire 2.) Passenger Side Headlamp Washer Cover that decided to reside in Tucson, AZ 3.) Near head on collision at high speed with F150 that came across the middle divider (I'm not sure how we missed) on Hwy 180 NM to Carlsbad. 4.) Exploding tire from oncoming 18 wheeler that left rubber on just about every front body panel (hood, bumper, fenders, and windshield), (luckily with much buffing, all is well). Best Recommendations: 1.) Hwy 152 (Absolutely Awesome 180 hairpins with 100+ft drop offs, no rails, through Mimbres Mountains / Gila National Forest. 2.) The Best Ice Cream Ever! Old Benson Ice Cream in Benson, AZ (I spent over $30 bucks total, by the time I was through as I even bought T-Shirts, ) 3.) Tombstone, AZ definitely a neat place, to experience a trace of the old west. (Much to do here for all age groups) 4.) Carlsbad Caverns 5.) River walk, San Antonio, TX PICS coming soon, I need to resize them so I don't take up too much bandwith
  14. Just thought I would share. My wife and are are going on a 7 day road trip starting 6/20/11 in the Pcar. The car's getting a fresh oil service Monday, just got the new custom interior installed, new regulator installed, and fresh detail today. We are going without any real plans, going to do alot of hiking, camping, driving without any firmly set destination. We are going West until we run out of time, then coming back. Our direction will be across Texas, stopping at anything interesting, Tuscon, AZ, Tombstone, AZ, maybe California, Grand Canyon, and Route 66 all the way back to Amarillo (eat at the 72oz steak house), then back down Dallas, Tyler, then back towards the Louisiana border behind the Green Pine curtain in southeast Texas. Anyone who would like to meet up or share something interesting/worth seeing are more than welcome. 5 states, approx 4K miles, with no time schedule should be fun!!
  15. Okay, the final word on the issue. The problem all along did turn out to be the module. I sent the module to modulemaster.com and they performed a rebuild, and it came back as good as new. As far as the problem above, I took off the interior sensor, cleaned it really good with 99%+ alcohol & Qtips, cleaned all of the electrical connectors, made sure my vents were plugged during testing (since my air vent ducts are at the shop being painted), and reset the battery again. So far everything is working 100% (knock on wood) and the module looks fantastic. I strongly recommend using these guys. They have fast turn around and very helpful. I never waiting on hold for any reason, and the tech was great for troubleshooting. It's nice to actually have people stand by their work, which seems to be becoming rare. Best of all it comes with a 5yr warranty on the work, so if it does stop working properly then they take care of it. If you have any module issues send it to them, they do more than just the LCD repair on the rebuild and test afterwards to ensure function is 100%. Hopefully this thread will come in useful for others in the future who might experience the same problem. Share the frustrations troubleshooting problems, and it makes it so much easier for the next guy. I will post a better quality video later
  16. Okay, we have an update. I sent the module over to modulemaster, and they performed the rebuild on the unit. The problem was the screen, as the new LCD replacement fixed the display issues like a charm. The unit looks great, although for some reason now I do have some new problems with the functioning of the module now. The people at modulemaster have been great so far in helping troubleshoot the issues, and we are working to find the problem right now. I will give another update when available, and hopefully it will be a simple fix. If we can't find any solutions, I will post some more videos and see if anyone can help with the new problem. BUT anyone having a problem like this, these LCD screens apparently can do some really tricky things when they go on the fritz, and the LCD repair looks great. Does anyone know if new Climate Controls have any relearning procedures?
  17. Porsche is different than other cars 10 years old in terms of reliability, and quite honestly Porsches and quality doesn't really go together. This is going to ruffle some feathers, but Porsches have a lot less headaches than a Ferrari, but a whole lot more than a Corvette (C5+).... Had a vette for a long time (car was 11 years old when I sold it) and it gave me very little problems. They also didn't seem to ***** and moan every 5 minutes, and you could actually get in it and drive without worry (I know its crazy talk). All of that said, I still bought another Porsche instead of a new ZO6, so I guess the P-car experience is still worth it, especially when there are 6 other vettes in the parking lot compared to your 1 Porsche. I honestly think Porsche is Germany revenge for WWII, dangle the beautiful car in front of your face with all of the hopes and dreams worthy of your life savings, and then hit you were it hurts once you own them, lol. I'm probably going to have to part with mine in a few months, but bet your money I will have another one when I stop traveling (Hopefully, can upgrade to a turbo (big hoping for maybe 2011 Turbo S, lol)
  18. Is it supposed to get some water inside the door cavity to drain out?? It doesn't go inside the car, just inside the door.
  19. With an accident history, and 6 owners, I would say no but to each his own though. I spent a little more to get the 02-04 style simply because they were not that much more and you get all of the extra benefits of upgraded features. All of these cars, if it has porsche or any other german name, has certain undesired characteristics but they are a blast to own. Mercedes and Porsche are in two different leagues, and when I made the change from hard leather, light throwing, Mercedes I have never looked back. I'm getting the interior done up in mine right now (02 Carrera Cabriolet), to make it two tone to match the outside, but my wife and I are considering selling at the end of July when we leave for Manhattan if your interested. I'll PM you the details.
  20. Solent, http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/505634-oil-pressure-sender-unit-replacement-diy.html Not hard to replace, don't waste your time with the contacts if the problem has already been made before since they probably already did the contacts. It only 50 to 60 bucks, I'm about to do mine as well.
  21. Not sure about the relay, and based by your post you have probably already tried this but here is a link that could help. http://docwilenracing.wordpress.com/2009/09/04/boxster996-window-issues/ Did you reprogram your windows, go down and hold for 10 sec and then go back up and hold for 10 sec? Mine has done what you talked about after replacing the regulator and reconnecting the battery (kind of freaky, lol), but stopped once the windows were reprogrammed.
  22. Okay, I finished my window regulator and it operates great now. However, when I did a water test just to make sure everything is operating as it should I get a lot of water inside the door cavity. The water gushes in when I spray around the side mirror. I have never had a water leak before so its bound to be something I am missing although I'm not sure what. My searches have brought me to the door membrane (which I presume to be the black foam type material that is glued down behind the door panel. When I did the regulator I carefully removed it 3/4 around (left the bottom attached). Does this have to be reattached to stop watering from entering the inside of the door panel because I have not reattached it yet? The searches seem to blame this and I could see how it would affect the carpet on the panel but I can't see how this would affect water from actually getting inside in the first place. I want to make sure I get it done right before I put it all together. That water can't be good because it drips straight down where the speaker will be, on the window regulator motor connector.... I have included a pic my door panel with the black material pulled back is this the membrane? forgot to attach the pic
