  1. anyone know how to upload a video on here, or can I send it to someone that can do it for me since I don't have a clue.
  2. Okay, I've got a video of the problem now for all to see what I'm talking about. I spoke with the guys over at modulemaster.com and they see pretty helpful so I'm going to send the unit in tomorrow to see if can be repaired. They said that test fixture for the module so they can diagnose whether the problem is internal, screen, or elsewhere in the car. So we will see. I figure someone else is bound to have the same issue in the future so I'll keep posting for other to dig and resolve their future headaches, lol. I hope the file works, it is a video taken from my cell phone.
  3. Ok, I need some advice. My climate control is now on the fritz. Never had a problem, but now it has a few segments missing from the temperature (which when you drop or raise the temp, the segments that were missing come back on and new ones go out, "73"a shows great "71 missing the "7", and 70 missing a few in the zero). I believe that maybe this was the LCD, so not too big of a deal although I'm not sure why them go on and off. The bigger issue that I'm concerned about is when changing the temperature down the climate control display goes 73,72,71,70,69,68,86,85,84,83...62..Lo When raising it up it goes 79,80,61,62,63...Hi. The temperature works as it should even though the display is not reading right, for ex I will put it on 67 and it will show 85 but be full AC blast as it should. I been in talks with modulemaster services (that sell the LCD rebuild), and they advised I should ask on the forums to see if anyone else might have had the same problem as they couldn't guarantee it was an LCD issue. They seemed friendly, and said they would do a rebuild and if it didn't work I would only be out Postage each way however I want to make sure this is a LCD issue and not a software problem before shelling out over $100. I've never had a problem before the other night when it did get some mist on the front of the unit (not much and was wiped up promptly). Any help would be greatly appreciated. My Module number is: 996 653 101 09 FFA B.H. TC 5HB 008 247-01 Comes out of a 2002 C2 Cab
  4. Might also check the cats, they make some interesting sounds as well that will make you nervous.
  5. Check the spark plugs and make sure they are tight. I have heard that sound before and it was a loose plug, which sounds scary as hell. Hopefully it's that easy. Easy to check should tade about 30-45 minutes.
  6. man that's crazy prices for services in Australia. I'm moving there next year and I think I'll just leave my car in Texas to let my friends drive for those prices, lol. I just did the alternator last month here it cost a grand total of $36 dollars and less than an hour.
  7. If it's fixed don't sweat it. Do you still have the old alternator? If not go back to the shop and see if you can get it and just pay the core charge because chances are that's a good alternator that would be an awesome spare. When you get it back just take a couple of nuts and screws off the back and switch out the regulator and your back in business with a good alternator to spare. Congrats on getting back on the road. Don't be afraid to work on your car, that's what ownership on these things are all about. Push come to shove, get someone to fix it after you tried, lol. These cars despite how they look have been pretty easy to work on.
  8. Just fixed this same problem on mine it was easy breezy! The problem is with the regulator on the back of the alternator. This job was extremely simple to do and only cost me a total of $36 to fix. I actually finished mine yesterday, it took me all of an hour or so. Here's a link with all of the information and the DIY. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-996-997-forum/408495-alternator-repair-regulator-replacement.html Apparently what happens is the alternator gets hot as it warms up and the regulator is not doing its job anymore so when you first start the car the voltage is great, but is slowly goes down when the car gets warmed up. Mine now holds strong at 14v, all day long.
  9. I have a 2002 C2 and yes the heat shield does come off, although I was scatching my head at first as well. I had to get a screwdriver and pry maybe 1/8 inch just to clear the mount, and it slid right out. I actually just tried my first spark plug change today and I will say that they ones closest to the rear bumper are a pain the A!!!!! I stopped for the night, but I will finish it up tomorrow. Oh by the way I did use NGK, and when I finish she's getting some fresh Castrol 5w40 Syntec.
  10. Mine smells like that to so did every one of the 996 that I test drove. I walked away from a couple of them because I thought it was the clutch burning or something. After getting tired of shopping I just ignored it, lol. Although I have a feeling my smell was coming from the little (cam sensor seal????, the part right next to the front spark plug. I bought a new one just haven't had a chance to install it yet. You might want to check for some build up there by the shield for the spark plugs. Once I cleaned mine up good, I found the leak, and since the dealer had an abundance of them its probably a common issue.
