  1. Finally got around to checking the "batwing" flaps. Readjusted the passenger side unit and when I lowered the top the flap was in the correct position. I think the arm was slightly misaligned and therefore was not touching the horizontal pin that pushes the flap into position. In any event, it is fixed and I am happy to report that it works every time now!
  2. I have a 99 C2 Cab as well and when I got the car the passenger side flap wasn't working properly. What I did is take them both off and compared them (even thought they are mirror images of each other). I found that one of the metal components on the bad one was bent. I very carefully straightened it out using visegrip pliers and then gave them a bit of lubrication. When I put them back in they worked perfectly and haven't given me any more trouble. I have no clue how it got bent. Good luck with it. Thanks for the info!! I will remove the flaps this weekend and check it out. Hopefully I will see the same thing and be able to correct the issue.
  3. I own a 1999 C2 cabriolet. The "bat-wing" flap underneath the cabriolet cowling on the passenger side does not raise up when in cab mode. I looked at both sides and cannot see any malfunction, distortion, or broken components in the flap. I know that you can remove these using the tab and pushing it toward the rear of the vehicle. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? TIA for any help. BTW, this is a great forum for those who love their P-CARS!!
  4. join pca and then call leland-west. I pay about $300 per year with 0 deductible based on mileage of 3-4K year. Unlimited mileage plans available at very reasonable rates.
  5. Bought mine in Aug 2010 at age 56. 1999 C2 Guards Red Cab with 27,500 miles. Just recently became "empty nesters" and it was time to see my boyhood dream.
  6. Please check the high mileage roll call at the beginning of this site. Many 996s with more than 100K miles listed. FYI, I am new to this and just purchased (August 2010) a Guards Red 1999 C2 cabriolet that had 27,500 original miles. The original owner must have driven it hard because during replacement of the RMS and IMS beraing with the LN kit, the clutch and flywheel showed a need for replacement. FYI, my IMS bearing appeared to be in excellent shape w/o signs of degradation. The car was in very good condition and it such a blast to drive.
  7. Just purchased a 1999 C2 cab with 27,000 miles, 6 speed, 18" chromed turbo wheels. Car is in great shape and I had a new clutch, RMS, and LN IMS bearing retrofit kit installed (About 5K). The original owner drove it hard at times but the engine does not use much oil. Inspection of the replaced parts indicates the IMS bearing was in excellent condition (i.e., no signs of wear or wobbling or seal issues). Clutch was almost down to the rivets and I had the shop replace the flywheel as well. I have only had the car for about a month, but I am very pleased with the performance, looks, and the ability to drive with the top down or with the hard top attached. My P indy shop indicated that the car was in top notch condition for this 996 with M96 engine. Please read the post on the high mileage 996s and you will see that many early units have exceeded 100K miles w/o many problems. I wold be very interested in that car assuming that a good and competent PPI was completed. :D
