  1. Thanks for the input Gary in BR, but I have decided to sell my Boxster before I leave Florida. I am going to be commuting from BR to Metairie every day and I don't want to put her through that daily punishment. Perhaps in the future I'll upgrade to the 997 I have always wanted.
  2. The check engine light came on last night for the very first time after 39k miles in my 03 Boxster. Went to Autozone this morning and the car gave me the P0455 code. Based on some of the posts I have read, it appears that it can be as simple as replacing the gas cap. Has anybody encountered something else that they want to share? Thanks :renntech:
  3. Well, I have spent most of my afternoon (I guess better than working) reading the posts regarding tires, but I did not find one that was strictly about tire noise. I am ready to change tires on my MY 03 Boxster with 18" Turbo Twists, of course performance is the most important aspect but if somebody has some good input on quiet tires it will be appreciated. Thanks. :renntech:
  4. I was faced with the same dilema 2 years ago. I purchased the heads and blanks from Sunset and had them programed and cut at the dealer. It was much cheaper. If you have a couple of dealers around you shop for the best price. Good Luck!
  5. For sure a "big change", but I am looking forward to it. I will definitely appreciate any information with regards to trustworthy mechanics. I guess if I really have to I can take it to NO. Thanks
  6. My wife's job is taking me from Miami to Baton Rouge, LA. Does anybody know a good independent repair shop in this area? Thanks.
  7. Hey! That happens to me also. The radio, or something in that area clicks or rattles for a couple of seconds.
  8. I have an MY 03 and I had two cubby holes, removed one and replaced it with the Cd holder. All you have to do is yank it out with your fingers. That's what I did. No need to remove any panels or special tools.
  9. So I took my MY '03 to the body shop to get my front bumper fixed. Believe or not some idiot backed into me at a red light. Anyways, the guy from the body shop just called to tell me that the battery is dead. They tried charging it and it won't hold the charge. I never had problems with that battery. I wonder if they left something on. Can anybody recommend a good battery for my car? Should I just pick one up at Sears or Discount Auto parts? Also, what should I expect from the car now that I am replacing the battery. Thanks.
  10. I am going to take it in next week. Thanks. What about the sway bars that Loren was talking about? Again, I am sort of clueless on this. Thanks
  11. What a coincidence!! :D My car is still under warranty until Aug 26, so I wish I new exactly what it was so I can tell the dealer what to check and fix before it expires. I want to take it in again, but I don't know what to ask him to check so he can find the source. The car is running awesome except for this freakin' problem. Well if anybody can shed some light it would be great! Thanks,
  12. Yes, that is exactly when I hear it more. It is also definitely coming from the passenger rear side of the car.
  13. OK here is what was replaced at the dealer, part number (2) 986-331-043-07 Trailing arm assembly. The mechanic described it as "replaced rear control arms". I obviously don't know what any of these parts do, but the clunking still there. Should that have done it? If somebody can explain how all this works I would greatly appreciated. Thanks. (I'm still learning). :)
  14. I am curious because I just took my car in for the problem you are describing. There is definitely a clunk over bumps and when I corner (not fast) the car feels like it almost bounces/skips hard and the clunking is there. It does not skid (tires are less than a year old). The dealer replaced something, I can't remember what it was, but I have the paperwork at home. I want to say the controller arms (I may be way off)? Anyways, my point is that the problem is still there. I'll get the paperwork later. Thanks.
  15. Loren, You mention loose swaybar mounts as a common problem, what are the symptoms if that should be the case? What would the car feel like? Thanks.
  16. I copied this from my other post, totally different experience than you "I don't know what their problem is here at the Collection (Miami), maybe it is because my warranty is about to expire, but it was like pulling teeth to get them to do the work. The guy even wanted to charge me for the car rental while my car was getting worked on. I don't think that he liked it when I declined all the service stuff he offered which I have already done, such as the oil change, bleeding the brakes, and cleaning the drains! etc. I also told him about some kind of oily fluid on top of the engine and he asked how I knew about it, and I told him I was in the engine compartment, he almost fell off his chair!!! ". Update, It is 8:40 pm Wed, and I haven't heard from them since yesterday morning.
  17. The DIY looks pretty straight forward and I am thinking about doing it myself and not even bother with the dealership. I don't know what their problem is here at the Collection (Miami), maybe it is because my warranty is about to expire, but it was like pulling teeth to get them to do the work. The guy even wanted to charge me for the car rental while my car was getting worked on. Like it was something out of this world. Incredible!! Well I guess I went off on a tangent, anyways I think I am going to this on my own. Thanks everybody.
  18. So took my MY03 to dealer this morning to take care of a few things before the warranty expires in august. I asked the service rep if anything could be done with regards to the range on the remote. He said nothing could be done and that was the way it worked. On the way to the office I remembered the TSB I read here with regards to that issue. Is the dealer required to do the work described in the TSB as part of warranty work? Thanks.
  19. It looks great on the black 986, I wonder what it would look like on a speed yellow.
  20. It also happens when I make right turns, I only have to accelerate a little bit and the rear tires start bouncing (at least that is what it feels like). I have also noticed it a little bit on the highway when there is a joint on the road ie. from asphalt to a concrete bridge. It is driving me nuts, the tires are less than a year old so that cannot be it. I have a month and a half left on my warraty so I'm going to take it to the dealer next week. But I would love to know what it is.
  21. Can you be a little more specific on your right wheel hop? I may be having the same problem. Thanks.
  22. Try the shop across the street from the Collection on Bird Road it is called European Auto Service Center. Had my oil change there and it was very reasonable compared to other Indies. BTW I'll do the oil change myself next time way too easy.. :)
  23. Does anybody know the approximate range of the remote? It appears that my remote only works within 5 feet of the car. Is that about right? Thanks.
