  1. Does anyone have a DIY on access, replacement and/or part number on the Sun "Solar" sensor?
  2. I've finally given in and got myself a Durametric. Codes I've pulled off my 2004 Cayenne S are the following: 709: Sun Sensor - Open Circuit/Short circuit to ground I have looked around for this and have found no info for code above nor a part number or replacement for it? - Ideas? 1299: Gateway - Please read out fault memory, test conditions are not-completed, fault is currently active and is not causing a DTC light I have found, again, very few explanations on this as well. My be related to AC and or Blower Motor - Ideas?
  3. So looking at somewhere between $1,500 to $2,000 for this service. Bummer it's not a DIY'er
  4. I may have asked this question before, but what kind of costs looking at from either independent or dealer for replacing the engine mounts. (I heard you should also change out transmission mount as well? cost too?) Thanks
  5. ALEV8 you make me laugh and put a smile on my face! I agree that the mounts will definitely help with vibration concerns but there are seems to be TWO separate issues going on here. The idle dropo issue is not related to the engine mounts and can be caused by vacuum leak and/or timing chain deformation
  6. Keep the talk going, we'll all get this common issue solved once an for all. This common issue should be condensed into a "sticky" as this sounds like a very common issue. I have also read that besides a "vacuum" issue that causes the quick idle drop, it is more likely the timing chain that "stretches" over time causing the quick and noticeable drop in idle when coming to a stop.
  7. I'm going to go out on a limb here by saying changing sparks and coils (based on how much its driven and climate) should be done every year or two. The coils (and plugs) are subject to alot of heat and outside influences (water, mud, etc particularly the coils) and such if you are taking the time to replace the plugs, you might as well do the coils at the same time cause of the PIA it is to do this service. For the cost of the parts, might as well do it all since you are saving on the labor anyways. Just my thoughts on this for the day.
  8. I'm a bit confused to what the fix diy is? I have a 2001 996 cab 2 When closing the front bonnet its a bit difficult to close as if something is misaligned or blocking it I don't dare dropping it from any height, I just have to place and push with some significant force. Any suggestions?
  9. I'm with GromlinWA +1 with new either Porsche "Branded" or OEM Corteco/REIN http://www.ecstuning.com/Porsche-2001-911-996-Carrera-Convertible-H6_3.4L/Engine/Mount/ Just in case you need some additional instruction http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Porsche-996-997-Carrera/10-ENGINE-Engine_Mount_Replacement/10-ENGINE-Engine_Mount_Replacement.htm
  10. Could also be the release "throw out" bearing I have this "Screech" issue when I'm stopped on incline of a hill, 996 is warm and warm outside. When I release clutch midway through it makes the sound from the rear. I also heard it could be caused by the transmission fluid level being low causing sound issue with clutch
  11. 2001 996-2 Cabriolet 62K on the ODO. Looking at these from a purely preventative perspective - preventing premature bushing wear Thoughts, comments & opinions greatly appreciated. Installation seems simple enough http://www.ecstuning.com/News/Porsche_996_Carrera2_Carrera4_C2_C4_Transmission_Mounts_Function_First_Performance_Inserts_Street_Track_1999_2000_2001/?utm_source=emailcampaign&utm_medium=marketing&utm_content=retail&utm_campaign=Porsche_996_C2C4_F1_TMIs
  12. Hello, 2001 996 Cabriolet 2 with ~63K on odo. No CEL Pulled this new code, not sure what to make of it... HBA FAULT| 02 001 Engine Path, left 002 Engine Path, right
  13. I did a little searching and found this reoccurring low oil consumption issue.. If your Panamera has excessive oil consumption, I would get it checked... Just saying! I'm told that the issue is not getting out yet since Porsche is stepping up and replacing engines as needed... Also told most third party warranties have banned Panamera's from their warranty offerings list. http://rennlist.com/forums/panamera/842234-oil-consumption-panamera-4s.html (QUOTE for the site) UPDATE: Last Friday, the car started running poorly and I got both a Check Engine light and PSM Failure light. I took the car into the dealership yesterday. They just called and said that the engine will need to be replaced, courtesy of PCNA. I will update when I know more details, but they mentioned the oil loss (consumption) that I was seeing was related to some severe scoring along the cylinder walls due to some unknown cause. Car has 22,700 miles on it. I am not thrilled about this, but better under warranty that not.
  14. Thanks for all chiming in... The information I got was from a reliable source close to Porsche... I do hope that this dirty little secret is not the case as I do want to transition from my 2004 Cayenne eventually over to a Panamera. I still may wait another year or so to make the switch. Again, thanks all for the input. But see my next response below
  15. What are the costs out there to replace the Engine Mounts at dealer and/or independent?
  16. Hey, just a fellow Porsche owner looking into "possibly" upgrading to a Panamera in the new future... I was told (by a knowledgeable source) to stay away from the Panamera due to an engine defect in manufacturing that causes the engine to self destruct. I don't want to cause mass hysteria here, but something about certain internal engine bolts coming loose and causing complete failure? I knew there were a significant amount of initial software issues when the Panamera came onto the scene, but if this engine issue is true, I don't need another Porsche to worry about the engine blowing up, I already have that dedicated to my 996 and it's IMS "potential" issue along with a host of other "potential" engine issues.
  17. Hi JFP, i'm going to run these test again but just specific to the values below. Before I was recording the whole DME, maybe was too much for scanner to handle The Pig is certainly running (fairly good) albeit the idle dip and vibration when coming to a stop, other than that it seems to be running ok. I'll post updated recordings shortly Camshaft Actual Angle Bank 1 Bank 2 Camshaft Specified Angle Bank 1 Bank 2 Camshaft Deviation Bank 1 Bank 2
  18. Hi JFP, so I have some data.. Not sure if I'm reading it correctly or if the scanner is reading it correclty Camshaft Actual Angle Bank 1 = 0 to 4 (and values in between) Bank 2 = 0 to 4 (and values in between) Camshaft Specified Angle Bank 1 = 0 Bank 2 = 0 Camshaft Deviation Bank 1 = stays in the 1's Bank 2 = rises to the 90's and flatlines at 90 RKAT Bank 1 = 0 to 1 to flatline 0's Bank 2 = flatline 0's FRAO Bank 1 = 0 to 1 to 0 Bank 2 = -0 to -3 -0 to -2 -0 to -1 FRAU Bank 1 = 0 to -1 to 0 to -2 to flatline 0 Bank 2 = flatline 0
  19. Hi JFP, OK, I have recorded about 10 minutes of data off the DME module which I believe is the area we are concerned with. What should I be looking at? I'm not sure if see a "CAM" sub section within the DME listing. Also, since I'm here... What other readings should I look at and expected values? I was told to look at fuel trim regarding the idle dip coming to a stop. Do you have expected values for that?
  20. Hey JFP, Thanks for the input, I'm still bit of a shady tree mechanic.... Not sure if you are saying I should be seeing other "Codes" along with this one if this P0021 code is legit? Should I be looking at live data regarding the cam deviations and what are they in numerical value? Just looking around at others saying Vario-Actuator and/or cam phaser to be replaced. Also, dealerships say it's a common code that is usually cleared and if it pops back up look at into further. They also have commented that P0021 is very common on the V8 engines, and from experience is due to a very slight extension in the timing chain and the sensor tolerance is very low. I've actually heard this from my local Porsche Master tech, that the chains "stretch" and that could be partly attibuted to the idle dip/idle issue Poor idle is indeed attributed to this code as well
  21. Well, got my new Autel MaxiDAS 708DS scanner and sure enough it caught something my Generic ODBII scanner did not.. "P0021 - A Camshaft Position TIming Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 2" I have a 2004 Cayenne S with 127K on the ODO There was no CEL, I have gone ahead and cleared the code.... No other codes present and clear. I have been complaining about idle drop at stop as well as vibration durning the idle dip (I know the vibration due to idle dip is most likely due to engine mounts but not sure if P0021 plays any role here)
