  1. On my way to work today, I was taking a right hand turn circular off ramp and was downshifting from 6th to 4th in my 2000 996 C2 Cab. I guess the momentum of the turn made me shift into second - this is the first time I have ever done this in 20 years of driving! I was going about 60-65 miles an hour at the time. Needless to say, the engine revved up way higher than it should have. I am so ashamed and disturbed by the careless error and hope I didn't have a "money shift" event. Nothing seems to be wrong with the car. Its idling well, starts well, and just a few minutes ago I took it out on the highway for a test drive (at 12AM because I can't stop thinking about it). On the test drive it accelerated strongly through second to about 6800rpms at 69mph, and in third I pushed it to about 6000rpms at 90mph before I backed off. No engine noises that I am aware of, although I never rev the car that high normally so I really don't know what it should normally sounds like (it sounded great! throaty and with a high pitch whirl in the background). Should I still be worried about the engine?? Can someone put my mind at ease? Thanks for your reply and I'm hoping I don't have to buy another engine! Joe
  2. Thanks for the reply. The crazy thing is this was already fixed once under warranty! The lifting is at the top portion of the rear window, so maybe it won't need a top replacement.
  3. About a 1/2 inch of fabric is starting to lift off the rear plastic window of my 2000 996 convertible top. The top was entirely replaced under warranty in 2003 due to a defect from manufacturing which caused water to leak into the fabric and rot out the fabric and window. Is there any product I can use to reglue the fabric to the top and have it resealed? The Porsche dealer that did the replacement top is in Boston and I am now in Charlotte, NC so it is hard for me to take it back. And at the moment, it is just a small issue. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Well, I suffered the Coolant Reservoir Leak that seems to happen to many 996s. I thought this was a non-issue for the 00s (I have an 00 C2 Cab). Anyway, the dealer assured me that this won't happen again due to a thicker tank used on the 03s and newer. IS that true or will I have to suffer through this again? The total replacement cost was US$650 (labor $350, parts $300). It just kills me to pay the bill when this is a manufacturing defect. At least if I knew it won't happen again I could feel better about the situation. Anyone have any thoughts?
  5. Thanks! I never heard of the gel. Is it available at most auto stores? Also, do you use a brush to clean the inside part of the rims? I've been using a sponge and a sometimes cut up my hand on the disc and other brake parts. Looking for an easier way to clean!
  6. Every time I wash my wheels with cleaner to remove brake dust from my 2000 996, the discs develop brown rusty spots. Should I be concerned? They seem to burn off after getting the car on the road the next day and using the brakes, but I am concerned. If anyone else has noticed this please let me know and how best to avoid this in the future. What wheel cleaner should I be using, if any? Thanks for your help.
