  1. The mystery is finally solved. Blower motor resistor went out. Hopefully have it back mid week Thanks for all the input..
  2. OK got my car back from the mechanic yesterday. Wife picked it up. Had to replace the Theft control unit, remote control head. Now the blower motor doesn't work. All lights light up, but no air. Any ideas? Checked the fuses. About ready to sell this for 500....
  3. He said its an error code from the immobilizer. I had checked the fuse, and it was good. He was coordinating with the only Porsche dealer in the Portland area to see if they can figure it out.
  4. No fire at all.. Said the current stops at the immobilizer.
  5. Really tired of this with the box. Took it , rather towed it to my mechanic. He said the battery being weak may have messed up the programming with the keys?? This doesn't make sense to me as the locks ans security system were still operable with the key. Said it may have to go to the stealership for reprogramming? Does this sound right or do I need to find another mechanic?
  6. Just for S*%#% and giggles, I checked the fuse in the immobilizer. It was good. This is exactly how it acted when the trans position selector switch went out.
  7. Long story short, my battery was acting like it was low yesterday, so when I got home from work, I popped the front trunk in order to put the charger on my battery, as I have done in the past. I locked my car as is habit with me. Went in the house for a while, came back out and opened the front trunk to put the charger on, the alarm went off, minus the horn, (never had that option), so I turned the alarm off with the fob, charged the battery. Went out go to work this morning, turned the key and nothing. I've checked the fuses, except for the 15 amp in the immobilizer under the seat. All are good. I have already replaced my ignition switch, and the neutral safety switch located on the tiptronic was done about 2 years ago. Anyone have any ideas? Already disconnected the battery for about 30 min to reset, and still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks
  8. Battery is probably 3 years old, just guessing, and yes I was referring to the hand brake.
  9. Long time away from the forum, which is a good thing, meaning that I have had no issues with the box, except for the P0400 and P1411 codes, but I have that under control. Until the other day........ I went to put the top down and nothing... Looked at all the fuses listed in the repair manual (B3 and D6 i think). All seemed to be good. Then I went through and read all the parts of this forum that dealt with top problems and was going to do some further investigation this weekend, like checking the microswitches at the roof and b pillar, but when I checked the fuses after I was finished, started the car and the CEL was off (was on previously) and the brake indicator on the dash was not illuminated when the brake was on. It was visible previously. Checked with my ODB 2 and the codes mentioned above were still there in memory. And today, after work, started mycar to come home, and it was like the battery had drained some, meaning that the milage had reset to 0 on the trip meter. All lights on the dash are on when the ignition is on, prior to starting, meaning no bulbs are burned out. Seems very suspect to me that the CEL and brake indicator stopped working at the same time. I really have no clue where to start and electrical is definitely not my favorate thing to mess with, other than fuses. If my battery is weak, could this cause some of my problems? Don't have the bucks to go to a stealership at the present, so any advice or guidance that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim
  10. Was driving to work the other day, and it was raining and dark. Saw something in the road at the last minute that I couldn't avoid. Went over it, large thump, ouch. At work I looked and found the rear plastic under shield had been destroyed. Guess my question is, is this part vital, and if so, how hard is it to replace without a lift to put your car on. BTW 98 Boxster, Trip........ Thanks Jim
  11. Thanks Maurice. Quick question. According to the Bently repair manual, you have to support the engine, remove a cat to access this. Can it be done without doing all this? If not, I'll need to take it in as I dont have the proper tools to do this. Thanks Jim
  12. Ok, as the title says, has anyone replaced the safety switch on the Tip trans, and if so, how much of an ordeal is it? I fear mine is taking its last bowel movement as the only way to start my car is to move from Park to Neutral numerous time intil it starts, which is far and few currently. Any info would be great. Dont want to take it in, and its getting a bit cold to be riding my Harley. Thanks Jim
  13. Ok, now the car had been starting ok, sometimes it'll go 2 weeks with no problems. Now I get nothing. All dash lights come on, radio works, and I was able to start it by going from park to neutral. Its almost as if the trans gear selector switch is bad now. The brake switch works, (lights come on). I read somewhere that the grease inside the gear selector switch can become hard and thus prevent contact, resulting in the problem I have. If this is the case, what am I looking at the have this repaired/ replaced? I don't have the proper tools to do this myself (per my manual). Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated. Getting to cold and wet here to be riding my Harley to work. Thanks in advance Jim
  14. Ok now still having some issues. starts when it wants, after turning the key a few times. I hate to take to a certified Porsce mechanic, but I need this thing to be dependable. Any ideas before I head to the stealership? Jim
  15. After alot of work, trying this, trying that, my 98 Boxster, tiptronic, seems to have a mind of its own when it starts. I ended up having to take it to my mechanic, although not a stealership, and said the only thing he could find was the starter relay. I've already repalced the whole ignition system with the upgraded unit from porsche. Sometimes it works, sometimes I have to try numerous times, and lock/unlock with the key (don't know if that actually does anything) in order for it to start. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated. Also, here is a dumb question. Are the high beam and low beam bulbs separate are are they one bulb. I have highs, but no lows. This happened prior to my ignition woes. Thanks again Jim
  16. Took your advice.. Cleared the codes, drove around a bit and all seems back to normal. I am going to get the Durametric for future use if the situation arises. Thanks Jim
  17. Ok fellas, to all that helped with my other posts about the no start problem, thanks. Now I picked up my boxster yesterday, starts, runs fine, but the trans in now in limp mode. I have a feeling that somewthing happened when at my mechanics, as when I went to pick it up, the spoiler was deployed as well. Before I took it, he put it back on the diagnostics, but could find nothing. I babied it home, now I will try to trouble shoot this. Maybe find another mechanic. Lol Pulled 2 codes with the OBD2 P0600 - CAN timeout (or bus error) - present P0706 - Multi-function switch - signal implausible Any ideas? Also, I've done some research, reading, etc, and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the durametric software for porsche, and will it pull the error codes for the tiptronic? TIA again Jim
  18. If anyone is interested, the box is home. Bad starter relay was the culprit. Thanks to all for the help and advice. Jim
  19. Quick update, I surrendered and had the box taken via flatbed to my mechanic. This thing was taking up way too much of my fishing time. I'll post what the problem was when he finishes with it.
  20. Have a volt meter, will try to check as suggested when I get back from fishiing today. Thanks
  21. My mechanic is about 60 miles away, and the only reason I havent taken it yet is transportation. Does anyone have any experience transporting their boxster using a u haul car hauler? I'm talking about the trailer, not the little two wheeled thing. I agree that replacing parts is not a very effective way to fix a problem. I'm not that good with electronic stuff, but I am beginning to believe that either the solenoid or the starter is the problem. I was just going by alot of research done in numerous forums with people having the same issue as me, and trying solutions that worked for them.
  22. OK, pulled immobilizer module, no signs of corrosion, loose wires, etc. Fuse looked ok, but replaced it any way since it was out. Replaced everything after a good cleaning. Hooked up the battery, closed everything up. Turned the key on,, all lights working, stereo worked, blower, etc... but still nothing. Not a click, dont think I heard the fuel pump either.
  23. First off, I'd like to thank everyone that has so unselfishly gave me advice and insight into my problem. This board is the best Porsche board I've found. Ok, its still not running, (lol) and this is what I've done so far: Changed electrical part of the ignition - didn't work Changed the entire ignition assembly - started 4 or 5 times, now nothing. (all the dash lights, headlights, blinkers, stereo, ac all work) BTW, if anyone is going to do this, its very easy if you remove the left vent and the instrument cluster, which are both easily done. Replaced the battery - Nothing Replaced the DME relay - Nothing Currently have the front seat out, removed the immobilizer. No water, no corrosion on the terminals, will replace the 15 amp mini fuse after work Went throught all the fuses - All are ok Will double check the seating of all the relays under the dash before I put the seat back in. If this doesn't work, any other ideas short of taking it in? Hate to pay the tow. Thanks again to everyone for all the support that you've given me over the last month. Just glad the weather here in Washington has allowed me to break out the ol Harley! Jim
  24. Well aside of a couple of starts today, now it does absolutely nothing. Took everything apart again, went through the connections again, and nothing. Even bought a new battery on the outside chance that was the problem. Really bummed now, as well as perplexed. I have no idea where to begin looking. Its almost as if the security systen has shut every thing down. Anyone with any ideas, please feel free to respond. Thanks Jim
