  1. To all, Here is a photo from this past Friday with a mileage update - just passed 350,000 miles. T2
  2. For those who were looking for pictures these are about 2-3 weeks old now and the car currently has 342,000+ miles on the ticker. It's very dirty in these photos.
  3. thormann, My sunroof exibited the same behavior - had the motor replaced and all is well. It's a pretty staright forward job. T2
  4. To all, I just passed 334,000+ miles on my commute today. Still running strong although we have one minor oil leak in the front of the engine and one of the turbo's is rattling (internal waste gate) so in about two weeks it is going in for a rebuild. I am still on the original clutch and when we drop the motor I plan to get a compression and leakdown test done as well as an engine oil analysis. I also plan to replace the bearings in the clutch assembly and remeasure (we did this at 173,000+ miles) the clutch friction surface thickness, inspect the clutch plate spring retainers, pressure plate and flywheel and if all is ok then reassemble and see just how many miles a stock clutch will go. At some point in the next several months I will take the envelopes of service history and create some data with dates, milesages, parts and labor costs and get true cost of ownership data with graphs - maybe I can sharpen my xls skills and actually curve fit an equation for cost versus time and mileage - that would be pretty geeky but **** worthwhile. T2 - continues to knock on wood.....................
  5. To those who are wondering... Here is a list of repairs I have done (listed in no partcular order): · All three front radiators · water pump · coolant expansion tank (as a precautionwith water pump) · power steering pump/reservoir (for theannoying squeal) · right front bearing, left rear bearing · front diff (due to front bearing issue) · clutch accumulator and slave cylinder(4 times now for the slave - one time lasted only 4 days and it failed - PCNApulled all the parts on the shelves in the US as a result of this and a fewothers in the country with a similar issue) · wiring harness repair (passenger sidefront most cylinder – harness to the coil pack chaffing issue) · rear main seal (while engine was downfor a wiring harness repair we pulled the tranny to inspect the bearings, clutch, pressure plate and flywheel) · two bearings in the clutch assembly –one was bad, one was fine · Decarbon the secondary air ports fromthe intakes to the exhaust · Gas cap – the gasket finally went at186,000+ miles · Check valve and carbon canister on thevapor recovery system for the fuel tank · normal services done on time · brake pads (only on the 4th rear setand 5th front set - car has PCCB's and is tracked 6-10 days/year) · oil changes every 5000 milesreligiously – Mobil 1 0W-40 · tranny and diff fluids every 60,000miles · Baileys DV's · GT-3 Cup front brake ducts · Idler pulleys · Belt (done a couple of times) · Suspension will be replaced shortly (KWClubsport) · Carden shaft will be replaced (secondtime now) when the suspension is done · All four half shafts will be replacedwith the suspension · Motorsport Sways and Tarett drops linkswill be replaced with the suspension · Protomotive intercoolers going in whensuspension is done · Two rear heat shields will be replacedwhen the suspension is done The car has the original clutch, the original tranny, the original turbos and the original engine. I do alot of driving for work and to be honest it's a fantastic commuter car. T2...............continues to knock on wood.............
  6. Loren, Any suggestions here - will the Sat module from a Cayenne work??? T2
  7. To all, I have to replace my PCM Nav module and while I have it out I was thinking of adding the satellite radio module as well (there are three slots in the rear of the head unit - one for nav, one for telephone and one for satellite (I presume)). I've looked into getting the module and any other hardware and firmware and it is not listed as an option for this vehicle. I know I have driven an 04 Cayenne with satellite radio before so I was thinking about inquiring about the module from one of those vehicles instead. Has anyone done this and what are the part numbers for this upgrade?? Thanks for the help and advice!! T2
  8. Loren, I had the same symptoms as described above - red led on full time no buttons working on the remote. I purchased a new battery and put it in with the correct polarity and it did not work so I pulled the new battery out and reversed the polarity for a few seconds then reinserted the new battery with the correct polarity and wah-lah all back to normal. Ironic that this post came in about the same time I needed the help. Thanks again!! T2
  9. We also had the same issue going on with our 2004 Cayenne Turbo at about 195000 miles on the ticker - there were a number of vacuum leaks and the vacuum pump was also replaced and now it is working AOK.
  10. We have a 2004 Cayenne Turbo with now about 208,000 miles on the ticker and changed all the tranny, diff fluids and filters at 163,000+ miles - had the dealership do it with factory parts - not worth messing with something the factory spend alot of engineering hours on trying to figure out what works best. It was not cheap but it was good peace of mind.
  11. d, I had a similar problem once and in the computer key number one and key number two must have gotten swapped (from primary and secondary) - I pulled out the other key for the car set the postion of the seat per instructions and wah-lah - all is well. Might try that. T2
  12. High mileage to me is my car which is bone stock and just rolled past 286,000 miles - original engine, tranny, clutch - still runs like a charm. Buy it, fix it and enjoy it!! T2 - knocks on wood!!
  13. Loren, I've been having an issue with the sunroof in that the open side of the switch won't work until you push the tilt/lift button first - I have tried retraining it and it will work for about 2 minutes then is back to it's old self. When I took the access panel down where the roof open/close/tilt switch is I saw what looked like a motor and it looked pretty easy to install at home. Does anyone have the directions handy?? Is it an easy job as it looks to be?? Thanks!! T2
  14. To all, Can anyone enlighten me on what the stock spring rates are for front and rear in both the turbo and GT-2?? Thanks T2
  15. Loren or someone else, Can you post for me the blow ups of the rear upper and lower suspension setups for each side of the 2003 X50 Turbo, if they have the p[arts numebrs with them also that would be diamonds. I need to pull a bunch of stuff off a car and as they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks for the help!! T2
  16. Loren, One clarification - looking for the heating / ventilation / air conditioning system plumbing and electrical diagrams. Thanks again. T2
  17. Loren, Can you post some of the AC control / technical / diagnostic diagrams when you have a minute. Thanks T2
  18. To all, I reached another miles-tone this past Monday - 2003 Stock 996TT X50...Here's to another 100k - still smiling with that.........well you know the grin....T2 knocks on wood, climbs back in car for more smiling.....Ciao!! T2
  19. Pierre - Any status update?? T2 hmmm... roughly EUR 22k. The std exchange would have been EUR 30k. And a repair with an upgrade to 600hp about EUR 32k.
  20. HAve you checked under the seat to see if something is jammed under there causing this to happen - like loose change or something like that??? T2
  21. Hey all, Lurking here from the 996TT board - my 2003 996TT X50 has 190,000 miles on it and I am adamant about changing the oil every 5000 miles - yes it's all still orginal (engine, tranny, clutch, etc) and has been left bone stock - just a point of reference for you to use - it sees winters, summers, rain, snow, sleet and what ever mother nature throws at it. My 3 cents (fuel surcharge) - T2 knocks on wood!!
  22. Pierre, My condolences as well - interested to see what the mechanics find when they dive into it. Personally I would replace/repair with built internals and move on with the same car!! For those who are interested - I flipped 190,000 miles this weekend in my bone stock 2003 X50 - just wanted to add that as another data point for those interested. Looking forward for the update from the mechanics and your plan forward!! T2
  23. My 2003 X50, bone stock, went in within the last 8 months for a similar issue - there was a check valve on the vapor recovery line that was getting stuck open because a carbon canister on the fuel recovery system started to disintegrate (the carbon partciles sat in the seats of the check valve and would not let it seat (close) properly) - reasonably easy fix and it's been running fine now for a while. 189,000+ miles on the ticker and still rolling strong!! T2 knocks on wood!! Hope this helps.
  24. I think that is a check valve off of the evap emissions control system - if I read the diagram correctly anyway. How do I know I just replaced mine two weeks ago along with the carbon canister (#14 in the second diagram you posted). Good luck. T2
