  1. They should be able to. I got info on my car from 01-05. Showed some emmisions recall and other service. No personal data of any kind was associated with it. Just car info. I got this through my local dealer. Car was serviced in another state and dealer entirely. Any Porsche dealer is supposed to have all that info at the stroke of the keyboard. The dealer I used was Porsche of Colorado Springs. I would just call around to Porsche dealers and see if they can help you out. Here is what they mailed me back: Vehicle Id..... 2. If you have the VIN, you should be able to run that through any Porsche service center and get some history. If motor was repaired/replaced under factory warranty it will show up. They should be able to give you a printout of all work done at any Porsche dealer/service center.
  3. SA321 sounds like you should buy another brand of car from your past experiences. Lot of others have had the same vehicles without any major issues. You might have just had really bad luck. If you were having cooling issues that would result in scored cylinders. Other cause would be improper breakin. Sounds like you don't like Porsches. Kind of a bad place to be lurking and posting IMO ;)
  4. I think the key to a good car is proper maintenance. There are a few problems that have nothing to do with that though for the 996, but I bet most of the problems are a result of lacking/time between maintenance. Same for about any car but Porsches seem to have things that are critical to have things done at certain intervals. Some models moreso than others. Good example is 944 timing belt.
  5. I just bought an 01 C2 Cab for $24K with h/t and under 40k miles with no accident history. I found several 996 cabs in the 99-01 range for under 25 with under 70k miles on them. I would say that it is a little too high priced.
  6. That makes sense. I'm getting a special blend of oil for my 996. I think he said it was going to be around 12w45 or something. Has higher ZDDP but not enough to be a problem with the cats.
  7. Why does my manual say to use 10w40 and other heavier weights for my 996? Most all info I've seen recently say 0w40 or 5w40 for the most part. New owner of 996. Have a 944 and the manual said 20w50. Why the weight changes from the past?
  8. Do you need to depressurize the fuel system first? On my 944 you can pull the fuel pump fuse and run it until it stops before pulling any of the fuel lines off. Didn't know if you need to do the same with the 996? Or do you just pull it apart and let it drain?
  9. My 1st post! My 1st 911! 2001 Carrera 2 Cab. Car is being delivered today! I haven't even seen it in person yet. Got some records of service from dealer for a car I just bought. Anybody know what the damage code on this record means? 11/30/05 17645 132 Niello Porsche 012168 5 9457 040 000 2 Control module f. gas disch. electrical 11/30/05 17645 132 Niello Porsche 012168 G 9457 040 000 1 Control module f. gas disch. electrical 11/30/05 17645 132 Niello Porsche 012168 5 9457 018 000 1 Control module f. gas disch. Smooth Was wondering what was wrong/fixed, etc. Missing records from 17645-39000 miles. Guess car was serviced at an independent. Car has 40K on it now. Has slight leak on RMS. I think I'll be doing a IMS bearing retrofit and RMS seal when its time to do the clutch.
