  1. Thanks Loren you are right on top of these things. Do you recall the exact position of the fuel pump in the engine bay of a 914/6 (1970)? Yes as delivered, #150 is in such nice condition and stock right down to the "gas burner" wheels except for the mentioned items that we know of. Todd
  2. Hi Gang, it has been awhile but I am in the process of a complete body restoration on 9140430150. Is the proper factory location for the radio antenna on the drivers side fender as shown in most of the non-factory pictures that I see? Also someone had moved the electric fuel pump to the rear trunk. What is the factory location and should I opt to return it that location. I am told that vapor lock might be a problem. Thanks for the help. Todd
  3. Thanks for the fast reply Loren :) All those wires were replaced with the expensive shielded type when we had all these problems to begin with but I will check them and the engine ground. Are you saying that the lack of high pitched sound from the Bosch CD box might be the cause of bad wires or it contributed to the demise of the box? The box should sound off even in a test bench condition, correct? Todd
  4. Over the last 10 years I have had a lot of problem with spark and the ignition electrical system. I had a factory race mechanic who worked on the 6's look at it in the past but he has since retired and moved away. We replaced the original Bosch CD with several Permatunes. I say several because the first one went bad. It ran for awhile and then the same problem, shut down just like someone tyrned off the key. Finally about 7 years ago we replaced the coil with a new Bosch and swapped the Marelli distributor for a Bosch. It has been working great until last year. Last spring the same problem returned. I unplugged the Permatune and hooked up the old Bosch CD unit and it ran great again but several weeks ago I drove to dinner and upon returning to the car it would not start. Finally after many attempts it did strart and got us home. After that it would start and run for about 2 minutes and shut down. I rehooked the Permatune but nothing. The Bosch unit gave out its' high pitch sound only occationally so I cleaned every connection throughout the engine bay including all grounds but still only got intermittent sound. I checked voltage at terminal B of the connector to the CD box and had battery voltage. I then checked the Bosch coil as per the factory manual and found 2.5 ohms between terminal 1 and 15 (spec is .4-.6) and 9,500 ohms between 1 and 4 (spec is 650-790). So I determine that the coil is bad and so is the CD box(es). I really don't want to spend the $500 on a new Permatune CD and required new coil let alone the $1600+ for the Bosch set-up but I want it running. Is anyone else with me on the suspected problem or does anyone have another idea. I have been in contact with that factory mechanic but we are both baffeled as to why this keeps on happening. Do others have problems with these CD boxes like I do? It just runs so great when it will start! I hope this gets read and we can dust something off the forum. Thanks everyone! :D
  5. :renntech: Hi Everyone, I have gotten a lot of good info on this forum so thanks to all! I have just had tires replaced on my 2004 S. I have 25k miles but have winter wheels and tires so the N spec. tires lasted 15k like everyone else. A Porsche dealer did not replace the tires but a local quality shop did. When I picked up the Cay the air suspension control was jammed in the rearward position and a fault showed up on the dash screen. I pushed the suspension control forward with a little effort until it returned to the normal centered position but the air suspension fault still showed. I turned off the ignition and restarted at which time the fault was gone and not retreaveable from the display. However, now the special terrain mode requires more time than normal to be reached and requires a recharge of the accumulator that was not required before. The vehicle also seems to sit differently in the normal setting than prior to the tire change. I suspect that the shop did not lock off the suspension by holding the control forward before lifting the vehicle. My question is this. If the suspension is not locked off and the vehicle is raised, can that cause any damage to the air suspension components? Thanks in advance for any replys.
  6. This is my first time guys so I hope I can help. I have installed a Prodigy in my pepper S. The set up works very well with towing my 996 or 914/6 on an open trailer WITHOUT LED LIGHTS. DO NOT PURCHASE A TRAILER WITH LED LIGHTS. IT WILL NOT WORK WITH THE CAYENNE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Here is what you need to do. Purchase the Prodigy (I got mine on eBay) and the following from VW: 1 ea. part # IJ0-972-782 Housing, 1 ea. part # 000-979-136 Wire set, and 1 ea. part # 000-979-228 also a Wire set. These will be needed to attach between the Prodigy wire set and the female plug that you will find under the drivers side. Remove the one Torx 20 screw holding on the very lower black plastic shroud (with the foot well light in it). You will need to pull it down to release two friction holders on each side and pull the shroud toward you from the locators at the front of the foot well. If you have a factory tow attachment you will find the female plug up in the dash. On this plug pin 1 is a brown wire that is ground. Attach this to the white wire from the Prodigy. Pin 2 is a red/yellow wire that is battery +. Connect this to the black Prodigy wire. Pin 3 is a black/red that is the stop light wire. Now here is the important part! THE RED WIRE FROM THE PRODIGY MUST BE CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO THE BRAKE SWITCH COLD SIDE (no voltage until the brake pedal is depressed) LOCATED ALMOST DIRECTLY ABOVE THE FEMALE PLUG, NOT TO THE FEMALE PLUG ITSELF. Pin 4 is a blue wire and should be connected to the blue wire of the Prodigy controller. I mounted the Prodigy holder on the right side attached to the lower shroud (I'm righthanded and it makes it easy to use the Prodigy controls). Make sure that the trailer connections are correct. If you are using a trailer with a standard 7 pole round connector it should be correct. www.rverscorner.com/wiring/7pole.html will give you all the poop on the 7 pole connection. As I said this set up will work great. I have towed the 996 at 85 MPH+ and felt perfectly safe. If your pepper is 2005 or 2006 I understand that there might be a problem with the brake switch connection because there is no brake switch! My S is a 2004 so may be someone with a 2005+ can add to this post. Good luck and glad to be part of this group! :D
