  1. hate to refer to that "other" forum but here's a link to my post with pictures: post of V1 install
  2. Heh, yes, that question has been asked in the past. Obviously it would be easier to do the wheels off the car. In this case I didn't have a torque wrench handy so masked the car. Same warning applies though. If you spray this paint in one corner of the garage, it's going to be all over EVERYTHING in your garage...the metal flake travels amazingly far and will affix permanently to anything within range.
  3. I guess the Initial-D comic books weren't sufficient training. (I came upon this, didn't cause it).
  4. Acutally, Pete Smith is a guy who we race with. They were our main competitor a couple of years ago when we ran Civic vs 944 in E1. Can only imagine what he'd tell you, that guy is a real card. It's dangerous being at the track with him because you'll arrive only to find the steering wheel missing! We took one of his helmets once when he wasn't looking hehehehe.
  5. I was having some trouble sliding the console out (probably because I left the shift knob on) but that center console is held on with 6 screws so was less only a couple of minutes work to remove.
  6. Where swapping consoles differs from simply putting in a short shifter is transferring all the clips, hinges, nuts, rear lid, rear console etc...etc. I didn't find any good references on-line and so sat down and patiently went through the thing using my new console as to a reference where a screw or clip was and I didn't bother taking the shift knob off but did take the front lower console off for convenience. It took me 3 hours but I had a headache and wasn't rushing and just sat there patiently going through it. I had a new console with the plastic bin hinge so had to dremel that off because I had the metal hinge so that took a bit of time. As long as you have a good set of TORX bits and I highly recommend an angled/wratcheting torx driver...and you are halfway handy, it's not "difficult" at all but there are lots of little bits involved including taking the buttons out etc...etc. Go for it.
  7. I went through this...got burned on one ebay auction...but just didn't want to pay a gazillion dollars for a decoration. If you look on ebay...WHATEVER you do...do NOT buy from "JDownload". Eric at Bumperplugs does this but I was going to get a replacement console and keep my stock one (leased car, why give someone a painted console at the end?) so the cost of the console + painting was just too high for what I wanted to spend from them. That having been said, it is a fairly involved process to prep and paint it and I wouldn't necessarily trust anyone who hadn't done it before. I'd recommend Bumperplugs. In the end though, I got mine off an ebay auction from Imagineauto and it is fantastic! Note that to actually swap consoles is a BIG project...you have to transfer every tiny clip and nut and hinge etc...and you need a good full set of Torx drivers but it isnt rocket science and having the 2nd console handy makes it a time consuming but relatively easy "swap". That having been said, after all the time I spent putting my new console on, I don't think I'd ever swap the stock one back and I'll probably end up Ebaying it. Note that some cars have a moulded-in plastic hinge for the rear bin lid...later cars have a metal hinge. You can easily dremel off the hinge if you don't need it BUT you can't add it if you need the plastic one so be careful to be sure you are getting the right console. Looks fantastic IMHO...actually looks like it belongs there whereas the flat black plastic one looked like a mistake.
  8. Also, remember that it's better to "cool" the car down while in motion so a few miles of out of the boost relaxed driving does more to lower the temps than sitting at idle. I follow the rule that if I'm driving hard and then IMMEDIATELY stop, then I let it idle at least 2 minutes. If I've been driving semi-hard but have driven gently more than 2 minutes (which works out pretty well given the downhill residential streets I have to drive through to my house) then I only let it idle about 30 seconds or less. If I've driven very casually to the grocery store, I don't let it idle at all.
