  1. In all due respect it sounds like your serp belt should have been changed long ago. They don't just "break" when replaced at the proper service intervals..To blame the reliabilty of your Porsche on poor maintenance just doesn't make sense.. And to continue to drive your car when you knew you had a broken belt???? :huh: What did you expect? My Porsches have never stranded me.. To say that "most Porsches lately are more at home on a flat bed" is just plain rediculous..

  3. You might just want to consider buying a new (reman from Porsche) or used 3.6. They are much cheaper than the 3.4's. There a re a lot of the 3,6's out there.. Good luck
  4. I'm sorry to ask this but why didn't you get a tow when you knew the serp belt was broken? That 's a very serious failure. I'm sure a tow truck could have found you. I hope your engine isn't damaged but it's not likely. Please let us know the outcome..
  5. "Have mercy on that car man!" Never.... :drive: "Redline" and the "rev limiter" are entirely different things .I'm not that hard on it... I didn't mean I always hit the rev limiter. But with my ECU flash it has increased the revs to 7500. I do shift well before the rev limiter kicks in. I realize it's not a good practice... Thanks for your input :cheers:
  6. How did you blow the motor in your 997? What failed and why? Just curious....
  7. I don't know for sure but I highly doubt it.. The 2010 DFI engine is a completely different engine than the 997. Mounting will be different and for sure the electronics will be.. I would call around to some high end Porsche tuners in your area and ask them..
  8. Dont try to put a 3.6 in youir 99. Way too expensive and complex.. I hope you get a second opinion as well..
  9. They look like HRE's or a HRE replica. Take off one of your other wheels and look on the back off the rim. There should be some indication of the manufacturer stamped in the rim... You can contact "Wheel Enhancemant" as well. They may be able to help you identify the wheel.

This is the aerokit upgrade for your front bumper cover. http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/997777.html?Category_Code=997s_aerokit 3. Turbo wheels will not fit on your car.. It is not a "widebody"... 4. Unfortunetly the only thing you can do about the ride height is "lower" the car.. Eibach makes a spring set that will lower the car about 3/4 of an inch. The ride is still good. The car will handle better and look better.. But you will sacrifice a bit of ride comfort.. Good luck with your new car!
  11. It's been said by many wise people on this and every board to drive it like you stole it! These cars love to be driven hard (abusing a car is different). There are stories of extreme low mileage and babied examples eating their IMS bearings due to lack of use and regularly track driven examples not missing a beat. The car will always need maintenance items if you drive it alot, but I enjoy maintaining mine and driving it like it was meant to be driven. 72K on mine. Amen to that! I drive the crap out of mine. I hit the rev limiter at least once a week. I drove my Carreras the same way. To be afraid to redilne a Porsche is silly. The rev limiter wll kick in well before you would do any harm to the engine (unless you miss a shift.) I get 5k miles out of a set of rear tires.. Your car is not going to last longer because you don't "push" the engine. Talk to any highly qualified Porsche tech and see what he says about "babying" a Porsche... They (Porsches) don't like it....They will last longer and require less repairs if you drive them hard.. Not abuse them but hard...

  15. I guess that depends on how bad you want it. $5k for wheels and tires is probably never "worth it" but many of us do it anyway. :blush: I personally would keep the stock look. If you plan on selling the car at some point it will help your resale. Shop around and see who can give you the most reasonable (not cheapest) price.. Where are you in CA? Good luck
  16. PCCB Brake pads replacement Did the pads on my front PCCB's this weekend. Porsche brakes are so easy. With the help of my TT best friend Richard (he actually did all the work) it was done in an hour.. Probably the hardest thing is getting the connectors off the wear sensors without breaking them.. Based on his reccomendation i replaced the pads with the GT2, GT3 pads. (he has 2 TT's) If you're wondering I have 57k on the car. Pads still had 30% wear left..My turbo expert friend told me to change them at this point. Apparently the pads get very hard at this wear point and can put undo stress on the ceramic rotors. And a $8k a pair we don't want that.. If you like working on your car and have the right tools this is a super easy job. Pads cost me $425 with backing plates.. The job is the same as steel brakes.. Dealer quoted me $1,650 for the fronts last time I had warranty work.. :jump: That's a nice mark up for them...

  18. You can't tune headers...the best headers are the ones with the shortest length and least restrictive to airflow (reducing back pressure). TMK, the stock headers for the turbo are the shortest ones out there. Port and polish the stock headers and you are good to go to about 700hp. Totally agree with Wross. Port and polish the stock headers.. Aftermarket Headers for Turbos (996 and 997) are VERY expensive and a waste of money.
