I have no idea when the fuel filter was changed, I just bought it nearly 2 years ago now, I guess. That is something I oughta do, anyway. It's so rhythmic that I can't really see it being a fuel filter, but could be the fuel pump going on/off I guess. It may be the crank sensor … but I’m worried it may be the ECU doing it, since it is so well timed & repeated. It may be turning the coil pack feeds off, turning off the fuel injectors or any number of things… either by itself or as a result of a faulty input. It will be fun to track down. Maybe it’s a good excuse to buy a Durametric analyzer?...lol
I have a '97 Boxster, with the base engine & 5 speed transmission. I have done several things to it in the past year attempting to fix missing/rough running issues; replaced the plugs, all the coil packs, MAF sensor, and the 2 front O2 sensors. Ran great for a few days this last time (one of the new coil packs went bad; reinstalled one of the old ones that I was pretty certain was still good and reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery). Now it has started doing something completely different; it has never done this before.... you can hold the RPM's at a steady 2k for instance, and the engine will rhythmically cut out for just a moment, just as if you had turned the engine off and then back on.... on, off, on, off, on, off and so on. The dash stays the same however, other than the RPM gauge following the revs. It started doing this for a few minutes (embarrassing when driving thru town), then stop, and then do it again the next day and stop, but now the issue seems here to stay. So far it hasn’t thrown a CEL. I sure would love to be able to drive it and enjoy being topless before the snow flies... any ideas?
Hey guys... I'm looking for a part number or source for the red bushing that holds the power steering return line to the power steering pump. Mine was cracked and missing a chunk resulting in expensive fluid leaking all over the top of the engine case. Are there any workarounds that can be done to eliminate the problem? I have read a couple of posts indicating that the bushing can disintegrate under hard usage of the steering (track day and such). Also... I had a devil of a time trying to get the line out of the pump, and pulled out the brass collar that the hose/bushing goes into. Is my pump toast?
Good evening, I recently purchased a '97 Boxster that hadn't been well taken care of. I have a question about the vinyl curtain that goes behind the top and firewall to direct water to the drains. Mine was detached completely. I know the cables that hold the top down go into the slots about 8" from each end, and the plastic clips at each end must on somewhere at the base of the top mechanism. But I can't figure out where the long plastic channel clips onto, unless it is supposed to clip underneath the rubber seal at the rear of the top. If so, is the free vinyl between the channel and the slots also supposed to be tucked under the seal? Thanks for info and the help on this forum! John
Good evening all... I recently purchased a 1997 Boxster with 5 speed transmission, with 85k miles. I have an issue involving intermittent misfire condition. The misfires occur generally when the air temp is cooler; maybe < 75 deg.; doesn't seem any worse in rainy conditions. The code reader spouts out P0300 (Random multiple misfire), P0304 (Cylinder 4 misfire), P0305(Cylinder 5 misfire), P0306 (Cylinder 6 misfire). The seriousness of the issue differs; at its worst the CEL light flashes and the car has very little power. Generally, after the engines heats up, if I shut off the ignition and restart the car, the condition disappears. Most times when I leave work in the evening the car runs as poorly as it did that morning, but if I recycle the ignition, it runs fine. When its running seemingly OK, sometimes I will still get a very occasional, very short misfire in the higher RPM ranges. The first O2 sensor on that bank was also defective when I purchased the car; I have replaced that already. The car definitely has a smoother power range, and more power after replacing the sensor (when its not misfiring). I have seen some posts concerning cracked ignition coils; all six of my coil packs are cracked. It seems to me that moisture would make the misfires worse if it were due to the cracked coil packs. It also seems odd to me that all the cylinders on one side are showing the misfire, and none on the other bank. Any suggestions? Thanks!
