  1. Thanks. Looking around it sounds like this a common problem with the 996 @ 50K miles. Probably should just replace the AOS. Any guesstimates on what a shop should charge to replace the AOS? Thanks again.
  2. I took my MY03 Carrera Cab, (50k miles) in to the local dealer due to a leak behind my right rear tire (coming from the engine compartment). This is what they told me: "Oil leak-crankcase breather line. It is a long accordion line that runs from under the intake to breather on the cylinder. Right now it is just leaking oil. Eventually it will become a vacuum leak that will cause other problems. It is hard to tell when that is going to occur,it could be 2 weeks or 2 months. You just don’t know . the cost to replace it is $995 +tax" Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Does it make sense? What about the cost? Does anyone know a good shop in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area they can recommend for a second opinion on this as well as other issues? Thanks in advance.
  3. Note: Loren was kind enough to correct another post concerning the fiber optic link to the sub woofers. That change was made on the 996 MY03 or later. Earlier model year 996's may not experience the same issue I had requiring installation of a second amp in the audio/nav upgrade.
  4. Must be a common problem. Mine did the same thing (MY03 Carrera Cab).
  5. Not sure if the DSP will be affected but your sub woofers most likely run off a fiber optic connection with your existing amp. When I replaced the original deck, speakers and amp in my 03 996 Cab, I had to install 2 separate amps (one for the subs, one for everything else). Keep that in mind when you are looking at amps. I paired Kicker amps and Kicker speakers that worked with the existing dash and and door grilles so they look and sound great. Good luck!
  6. Thanks to both of you. Definitely not green. More pink than anything. For that reason I thought initially transmission or brake fluid.
  7. Thanks Loren. I will look into the coolant tank. What do you think of ALLSPEED's suggestion it could be a motor mount. Didn't know fluids were involved there.
  8. I am clearly a new 996 owner and I appreciate this forum because I am learning so much. Any other car I have owned, I could tell what fluid was leaking by the color and location. Not on my 03 996 Cab 6-spd. 50k miles. Yesterday I noticed I have a leak in the right rear area halfway between the exhaust and the wheel well. I got underneath and could not see where the leak was coming from. Not oil. The fluid on the garage floor was clear and almost tacky to the touch. Can anyone provide a guess as to what might be leaking? Thanks in advance.
  9. I added a Pioneer AVIC-x930bt ($850 online) to my 03 996 Cab. Nav, iPod Dock, CD, DVD, Sirius tuner, and Bluetooth. Looks and works great and the bluetooth pairs easily with my Droid for phone and audio (like Pandora). Also has the color change option and the start up (flash page) can be customized (I used a very cool stylized image of the Porsche Logo). Watch the installation costs since the subwoofers in the 911 run off fiber optics so you will likely need to add and amp to run those separately. Note, when they took out the original deck, I had them make that into a "Pocket" so I now have a place for my phone/sunglasses, etc. I also have the original in the garage, just in case!
  10. Wow! I was just going to post the same question (kind of). I have a MY03 996 Cab and yesterday after I filled up at the gas station the Check Engine light came on. I called for a service appointment but before I got home the light went off and it has not come on since. I am going to run it by the dealer to check the code but I know from other cars (not Porsche's) I have owned, something as simple as the gas cap not on tight enough can trigger a fault. Was it a coincidence that the mileage just turned over to exactly 49,800?
  11. Had a similar problem with my 03 Cab only the top would not go up. Turned out the switch on the e brake was indeed bad. $150 at the dealer.
  12. I just brought home my first 911 (03 Carrera Cab) with 49K miles. The local Porsche Dealer had records going back to late last year showing only an oil change at 44K miles. What service, if anything would you recommend I have done since I am bascially at the 50,000 mile mark? Note, the car runs great! Glad to be a part of this forum.
