  1. 2001 Boxster S Update: When I once again tried after a few days, I was able to get the top to open but I had to help it along as it sounded weak or something. So I got it opened and looked everything over and can't visibly see any issues. So I then closed the top. AND>>>> Now it won't open again. The motor just makes a think sound. In other words everything seems to work fine electrically and the motor runs, etc. I read elsewhere that the round plate on both sides revolves to cycle the top open/closed, can come off its sprockets/gears and get itself into the "wrong" spot or point in the cycle routine. But how do I determine that and set it right if that's the problem?
  2. My soft top has suddenly stopped working. The dash light remains ON all the time. I can hear a motor running under the top and it sounds like it is cycling through its forward-and-back routine (I am led to believe it is a continuous loop or rather a single cable with reversing indicators on each end or something). I have checked the usual - emergency brake completely set. Fuses OK, etc. So what do I do next? How do I open the top when it doesn't cycle even halfway at all (i.e., I know how to open the engine compartment, et al, when the top is opened halfway. But in this case the metal body cover between the top itself and the trunk is in the locked and closed position). What are the usual suspects to check for? BTW, I have 65,000 miles on it) Thank you
  3. The radio is the stock CDR 220 I am hoping it will turn out to be simply the integral (rear mounted) 10A fuse and am waiting on the key to take it out and check. I'd be hard-pressed to think it could be a coincidence that the radio blows at the same time that the car sat for a week un-used waiting on the coolant tank part and new battery. So we'll see..."film at eleven"....
  4. Radio "dead" after replacing battery. I HAVE THE CODES! (But no way to enter them) I see a lot of info out there about how to find your lost radio codes and whatnot, but that is not my problem as I have my codes. The issue is that after 1)having a dead battery, 2)replacing said battery, and 3)having the car sit unused for a week while waiting on a replacement coolant tank part, I NOW HAVE A DEAD-SCREEN RADIO AND NO WAY TO ENTER THE CODE OR TURN ON THE RADIO. I can see that other people may have experienced this phenomenon but I can't seem to find anyone with a published solution as everyone seems to digress into a discussion of where to find your radio codes, etc. I assume that there is some sort of arcane Porsche security gremlin at work here, and that I need to follow some other sort of procedure in order to get my radio to accept the code and unlock itself. But without the radio showing any signs of life at all, how do I get into this? Or is my radio now dead for no apparent reason?! (e.g., it was working just fine up until the dead battery and service work time-span). I hate to invest in a replacement radio until I can ascertain what would make it suddenly die(?) Never in all my years of auto ownership have I seen a radio just "go silent". So what's up here?
  5. New to this Board and looking for some immediate guidance on a specific problem with my coolant reservoir (leak). If anyone can answer this, it would be greatly appreciated. I have an 2001 S with 65,000 miles. I noticed the aforementioned coolant leak. I've ordered the #01 new style cap (wish Porsche had bothered to tell me about that one!) and am waiting for it. in the meantime I am either trying to seal the leak with some plastic weld that another user had success with - OR - I will try and replace the tank itself if need be. HERE'S THE QUESTION THOUGH: In every posting I see it refers to just how difficult this DIY job is because "you have to remove the hoses from inside the engine compartment on the other side of the firewall", and "almost need drop the tranny to get to the c-clips". BUT MINE SURE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THAT! (See attached photo) All I'm seeing are three rubber coolant hoses with c-clamps on both ends, and the oil fill tube, and the oil dipstick line. That's it! So I am left wondering if my build got a newer style coolant reservoir that is easier to remove - OR am I just that stupid and asking for big-trouble in trying to do this? Anyone know if I remove those three hoses can I A) either move the tank around enough to get to the underside and REALLY seal the leak? OR 2) remove the tank entirely and replace it myself? Oh, man thank you if you know the answer!
  6. I am one of those 'unfortunate many' who have had their Litronic lights sputter and fail over time. Does any one know for sure if it is the RELAYS that need replacing? And if so, which one? There are 2 on the '01 S: An Ignition Unit #996.631.195.01 and a Control Unit #993.631.193.02. Has anyone replaced those and solved the problem? Where could I get the best price on buying these? Thank You!
  7. I was really interested in how anyone solved their litronic problem as I have been having the same occurance. Now my low beam litronics do not come on at all. They failed in a pair but before doing so they intermittently did the same as most other posters. That is I could trick them to come on by playing with the stalk - switching to high beams - messing with other switches - or just driving around a while on the fog lights. But now the low beams are off for good. What turned out to be the solution? (Seems to me Porsche should do a recall given how many posters have had problems with these). Appreciate any advice at all! Thank you.
