  1. Like the majority of American drivers, most of my driving time in my Cayenne is done solo. Therefore, the driver's mat gets all the wear and looks like crap, while the remaining three look almost new. They are the stock Porsche Cayenne mats for my grey interior, which I wish had a heel reinforcement under the accelerator pedal.

I've inquired with a couple custom mat makers on eBay (example http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSCHE-Flo...spagenameZWDVW) to see if they'd supply a single mat rather than a set, and will report on their response.

I wonder if any other owners have satisfied this need in any other way -- I don't know, will Porsche sell a single mat or only sets?

    TIA, suggestions welcome.

I solved this in my allroad by getting the thick rubber all season mats, my heal can't wear through those and they're super easy to clean

you could get a metal mat guard that's used for that exact problem too, if you get metal pedals it looks pretty good and you heal won't wear through aluminum :)

  2. Hiya.. yesterday i disconnected the neg cable for my batt to take apart the horn. I was unable to take the horn off but now the car wont run. It starts and idles but when i try to press the accelerator it just bogs down like its gas starved. Any ideas??

what were you doing when you tried to get to the horn? were you going after the alarm horn or the steering wheel horn?

  3. I need to install a 2.5 pound fire extinguisher in the interior for a track day event. I was hoping to zip tie the metal bracket somewhere, so I could easily remove it after the event. There doesn't seem to be a good location. Has anyone done this and if so, where and how did you mount it?

Brey Kraus makes a great one that sits just in front of the passenger seat, bolts to the bottom of the seat so it's not in the way

  4.

huh, i never noticed ToolPants mentioned the relay, now I feel stupid for asking

I only noticed because I am considering this for a spring upgrade(moving to Boston where drivers are..um..erratic).

After your install, please make a post giving your impression of loudness and delay.

stumpjumper - How do you like your new setup?

oops, I never replied here :) I ended up replying in this thread http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=5747

but anyway, been like... 5 months? it's still great, no delay at all, plenty loud and installation was a breeze except for the bumper removal because the horns ended up with are nearly direct replacements for the stock ones Hella Super Compact Trumpet Horns I think they're called, they're good enough that I'm thinking about doing the same to my Audi

  5. Hi Guys,

Has any one pursched from the US one of these Gas saving kits I keep seeing on Ebay.com.

Its a pre swirl attachment that fits in the inlet, and a gas line ironizer, which both apparently help improve MPG.

Anyone know about these who have any comments??

    many thanks

    Russ

it's a scam, when it sounds too good to be true there's a reason :)

  6. Hi

    My first post

Have 2001 2.7 RoW LHD Boxster

Yesterday I noticed that the rear spoiler had not retracted automatically.

Here I see talk of a switch that will manually retract the spoiler; can't find my manual to locate the switch; is it in the fuse box

    regards

    Bob

    ps love the car

it's the switch that you can see through the fuse box cover, it's not a 1 touch down, you have to hold it down to get the spoiler to retract all the way

  7. For Dell .... or Orient Express .... or anyone else who has installed the Becker Aux in cable to run an iPod through a CDR-220.

I received my cable from Becker today, along with the pin-in directions .... very specific.

Instructions for installing an external audio source (MP3)

"Locate set of female RCA jacks from modification kit":

(I assume they mean the bundled set: red and white RCA jacks.)

    Brown into #18;

    yellow into # 19;

    red into # 20.

Problem is, there is another, separate red RCA jack (total of 3) in the bundle, with Red and Black leads. No mention of these in the instructions.

Any help here? Do I throw it away?

    Thanks,

    Kim

    2000 Cab

the third single one is for the phone, you can toss it :)

  8. I must admit that I haven't read the manual from cover to cover. I am wondering if you can put these cars through an automatic car wash? I have the 18" wheels which is also of concern to me. Any thoughts? Does the manual state anything about automatic car washes?

    Thanks!

    bad idea!

not only do you risk destroying the wheels on the guides, but you'll crush the brake cooling ducts (or worse)

plus, you don't want that high pressure water sprayed onto a convertible top, it's just asking for water penetration, and if you have a plastic window you risk scratching it badly

  9. yup, the polyrib looks easy to get to from the passenger compartment, I was just looking at it last night in my bentley book and it appears pretty straight forward to change it

the top of the engine is pretty easy to get to once you've done it once, but there's not much more than the air filter and intake manifold along with the power steering filler under there, most everything is found under the car, plugs and oil filter are down there, the pollen filter is in the forward compartment next to the battery just under the windsheild

having just spent $450 on my 15k service I'm wishing I'd done it myself, although the piece of mind from them telling my my RMS was ok is almost worth it

  10. Ok I swear that I have little gremlins living under the seats in my Boxster that like to come out at night and set off my alarm. The thing is, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the alarm going off. I have tried to reproduce the problem by setting the alarm then banging on the windows, to no avail.

I know that there are some factory options you can set for the alarm, and I notice that the horn will beep when I set the alarm if I leave the arm rest console open. The thing is, I have tried locking it, or keeping it open, and still 3-4 times per week my alarm starts going off....

I am worried that one of these days I will park it for the weekend, the alarm will start going off, and it will drain my battery (is this even possible?)

    Any ideas?

I would venture a guess that it's a somewhat loose hood/trunk or a bad switch and that when it gets windy it sets it off, this use to happen to my a4 all the time

  11. I can only answer a few of the questions, but here goes

reading it would seem that the RMS is the most common "large" problem, but it's hit or miss some never work, some never fail, seems completely random

the top, the canvas wears very, very well, it's the plastic window on the 99-02's that can be problematic, not only is plastic harder to clean than glass but it's prone to scratching, the way it folds can lead to creases which will lead to cracks which mean you'll need to either repair it or replace it, lucky for us 2 companies have started selling glass windowed tops that fit the older frame and barring a few manufacturing problems from initial runs they should be very good

minor services are at 15, 45, 75, and 105k miles, they're basically fluids and filters

major services are 30, 60, 90, and 120k with the polyrib being done at 60k & 120k typically

all of the typical stuff can be done if you have the tools and patience, not as easy as a front engine car but not horrible either, the bentley manual has been pretty good for me, I don't know that I'd try the clutch without a lift though (personally)

I don't think you can turn off the ABS, but I have an 02 with PSM so perhaps that's why I can't

the interiors of the cars I looked at were immaculate, but I was buying a 1 owner garage queen off a lease, I'd think that if the person cares about the car the interior should be fine... if they don't take care of the interior what does that say about the rest of the car?

as for why to buy one? it's damned fun! around a corner it's perfect, the sound and feeling of the engine behind you is like nothing else... it's addictive, did I say fun yet?

having driven both the '06 S2000 and the '02 Boxster in the same day, I picked the 4 year older car for more money because well... it's just a better car (except in an autocross) If you like your Audi I'd guess you'll like the Boxster better too, German cars are just "different"

here's a great thread about "why" to buy one at rennlist too

    http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/show...ad.php?t=243411

whatever you decide, good luck :)

  12. the power cable in that pic is the cell phone accessory cable, it comes with every car and is found somewhere under the radio typically behind the console, if i remember correctly it has both switched and non-switched 12v power, I tapped the switched which means I can't have scheduled recordings but I figured it was better safe

I guess I didn't take a pic of it but I added an accessory plug and just held the S50's power adapter in with some electrical tape

right now I'm south of Boston in Randolph, the car is a black on black S :)

been waving at every p-car I see but so far only a GT3 and another boxster have waved back :(

  13. underside of windsheild cowl

    placement of antenna on cowl

    phone harnes & antenna cable

    temporary mounting spot

so here it is, 1st link is the underside of the removed cowl, 2nd shows the placement, I cut a small piece of galvanized steel which I then painted black with rustoleum, this I zip-tied in place with the existing holes and used the antenna's own magnet to hold it in place

it's as high as it can possibly be in the cowl and will be easy to remove, plus I don't have to worry about adhesive melting off

the mounting spot of the S50 is temporary since I'm planning on getting a console delete, I'm not sure where to put the thing once I get that though (yes I should have done a better job, I know)

  14. honestly, I don't think I've ever looked at the needle after filling up, just the miles to gas line and it's always about right as soon as i get in the car

I've noticed that the car feels sluggish for the first bit, more noticably in sound than acceleration feel for me but it takes far less time for my boxster to warm up than for my audi so I guess i never cared

the ticking is probably the lifters, they're quite loud and closer to your ears than the exhaust is. I've read that heavier weight oil can alliviate this but I haven't bothered trying yet
