  1. Need to build one myself. I can’t see every measurement above in the photos so I will have to wing it. Did you have any photos of your version to share with us? Sry for resurrecting this thread from the dead.
  2. Yes I will let you know when I have done some driving. It could be useful for others to know if they come across the same problem. Thanks for all your input and help.
  3. Can’t find any obvious holes where it fits so I guess the suggestion that it is a vibration dampener from previous owner is my best bet. Thanks for your help!
  4. The other side is identical. The rubber is quite soft so I don’t think it has been there for 20 years, it should have hardened more then I guess. It lied under the air box in the bottom corner towards the back of the car on the passenger side.
  5. Yes, I thought of that. I cross my fingers for it not to leak.
  6. This is the best I can do. Freezing it didn’t help. Heat gun maybe a little but the seal started to harden so I couldn’t apply any more heat. I guess I will have to try to drive like this and see if the seal is good enough. Clearly the seal is the problem. In the photo it is obvious that the last bit of the seal has been squeezed to a bulge at the end. That bulge stops the tube from moving that last mm. At least 3/4 of the seal is where it should be.

  8. Good morning. I compared the old and the new AOS. The old one’s part no ends with 53 and the new with 55 (the bag said 54 but on the AOS it said 55). The tubes are the same length but the seal is different. I’ve looked and there is nothing in the hole in the engine case. My conclusion is that it is the seal that stops the tube from going in. I’ve tried both silicon lube and engine oil but no luck. When I try to pry the tube inwards I can see the seal flex a bit and the tube moves in the hole. So I guess the seal is the problem. I’ll see if I can ice it a bit and make it shrink before I try again. Edit: Maybe ice isn’t the beat way to shrink the seal. Heatgun could maybe work better.
  9. Yeah, will do that tomorrow. Thanks for all your help. Midnight here so good night.
  10. I think I’ll invest in a boroscope to look into the hole in the engine case. Maybe the answer is there. It is not completely flush when the bolts are turned all the way in, but pretty close. It looks like the tube wants to go a few mm further in for the AOS to be completely flush with the case.
  11. That is strange. My AOS is certainly the one below with the longer tube which should end in 55.
  12. The car is a 996 3.4 2000 manual. Part number on the AOS is 99610702354. Maybe I should invest in a boroscope so I can see better around the AOS so nothing is obstructing it.
  13. No that photo is from above with the bolts all the way in. I can tell that the AOS is not completely straight when looking from under the car. As far as I can tell nothing is in the way, but it feels like the tube bottoms out before the whole seal is in. Or maybe the seal gets a bit crooked and stops the tube from going any further. In the photo from under the car the seal looks a bit loose and jammed between the edges of the hole and the AOS. The AOS is ordered from Porsche Center and should be the right one for my car according to part number
  14. Nah, I have to give up for now. Can’t get it to seat properly. Removed it about ten times but it gets stuck every time a mm or two before it bottoms out. I would guess I’d have a leak if I used the car this way. Tried hammering it in but it will not move any more inwards. There is nothing obstructive in the hole, I’ve cleaned it. Anyone have any more ideas? Picture from under the car. Looks the same with bolts attached, they don’t help.
  15. Thanks. Your picture shows exactly the same seal as my new AOS. My seal is about two thirds in the hole in my picture. Maybe that is why it looks different?
  16. Yes, the new one is OE Porsche. The seal is different from the old one.
  17. Thanks. Yes, I did use a small amount of lube on it, it should be enough. Didn’t want to over do it as a was afraid that it would not seal properly if there was too much. The old AOS had a small o-ring that came out so there shouldn’t be one stuck in the hole. I guess I’ll have to redo it and lube some more.
  18. Ok, i’m getting somewhere. But I can’t work out how I get the AOS seated all the way in. The bolts line up perfectly and are easily turned all the way in. But the peg going into the engine is stopping a few mm too far out. I can still see the red seal. Any tips on how to knock it in without cracking the AOS?
  19. Ok, the 101 Projects instructions didn’t include the coolant hose to the AOS. I guess I’ll have to drain the coolant system as well then. I guess you were right about the instructions... :)
  20. Oh, ok. I thought I could trust Pelican at least enough not to break anything. I’ll take your advice and drop the engine. Maybe I’ll check my motor mounts at the same time. Thanks!
  21. Well, no. I’m following the instructions in 101 projects. The motor drop should not be necessary. If I just could get the plenum out it would be rather easy to wiggle the manifold out between all hoses. But not with the plenum still attached as it obstructs all movement of the manifold. I guess I have to do it the more time consuming way after all and dismantle more stuff
  22. Been trying to get the intake manifold out with the rear plenum still attached but can’t seem to make it. There are too many hoses and cables in my way. I need to get the front end of the intake more to the left to wiggle the plenum out but there is no room because of the two hoses that goes to the left of the manifold. So any more tips and tricks for me? What hoses are safe to disconnect to make more room? And yes, i got all the bolts to the manifold out without removing the coolant tank.
  23. Ok, thanks. Will try to remove the bolts without removing the rear plenum first.
  24. I did a comprehensive search but could not find any posts with similar problems like mine. I’m replacing the AOS but can’t get the rear plenum loose. After loosening the four clamps I can’t break the plenum free from the rubber sleeves on either side. I’m trying to rotate the plenum which worked with the front plenum. But I can’t find the strength needed. I also tried some filter tools for better grip and torque but no luck. Anyone had the same problem and know a good solution?
