  1. Hi All -- I've had my 911 for about a week. It's an '04 with about 33K miles on it. I had a thorough PPI done, so I'm not terribly concerned, but when I start the car on cold mornings (about 35-50 degrees here in West Marin County, CA), there's a lot of smoke. It stays that way for about 4 mins or so. Should I be concerned? It eats a little bit of oil. I couldn't find Mobil1 out here, so for a couple of days, I'm going to top it off with a synthetic blend and get an oil change fairly soon. I have had three BMW motorcycles that were all boxers, and especially the 83, it would smoke on cold mornings. Thoughts?
  2. Thanks, Scottie. I picked up some Silicon lube. I might try a gentle daub of that on mine and see if the squeaking stops. Cheers!
  3. Sounds like a great reason to drive from SoCal to NorCal! At least your engine oil will be up to proper temperature ^_^ I bought my 911 too late (last week). I'm looking forward to trying to attend the next one. My past wrenching experience are on BMW motorcycles. At least they're all boxers, right? I can't really do anything seriously mechanical, but adding lights (HID conversion), shocks, brake pads, etc. Those I can do, with the right coaching. Looking forward to meeting you all!
  4. Hi Scottie -- What kind of lube did you use for those hinges? WD40? Sorry for the newb question, but I'm new to P-car ownership. Thanks!
  5. Just to add a counter point to the Dension iPod interface solution (which I'm sure is a great solution), I went with the Dice electronics version that plugs directly into the FM antenna. It was fairly cheap ($149) and works awesome. Seriously, with a TT Cabrio, I don't need stereophile sounds. This combo sounds great and is fairly inexpensive. Install only took the guy about 45 mins. I could've done it myself, but well, I'm lazy and cautious.
  6. Hi -- I just got my 04 996 TT x50 last week, so I don't know much more (if any) than you do, but I have run across the rear hydraulic pump issue. I have it, and I may just go ahead and fix it. Wing still works, but it's got a leak and should probably be taken care of sooner rather than later. My independent estimated $2400 for this official Porsche fix (parts / labor). Here's a $150 fix that others have used. Check it out. Might save you some bucks. I don't know anything else about the other issues that you mentioned. http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/40264-a-solution-to-the-rear-spoiler-problem/
