  1. Background: I just put on a set of Michelin PS2s (235 40/18 front, 295 30/18 rear) on my 03 TT. I figured after seeing how my last set of rear tires wore down on the inside of the tire, I best get a wheel alignment. I just picked up my car after the alignment and I swear, the car feels different. The steering wheel just doent feel as stiff and I'm starting to wonder if anything with the alignment might be impacting my drive feel. Can anyone tell me, am I halucinating or could this be the problem? Maybe its simply the feel of brand new tires too. I dont really know what all goes into alignments on these cars. (It was a laser alignment.) Thoughts?
  2. Low and behold, I think I got an answer to my own question. Apparently you cannot mix N rated and non-N rated tires...this according to a tire brochure I picked up at the local P-car dealership....there you have it....I am going to put 235 40/18 N rated tires on the front and 295 30/18 N rated tires on the back..... UPDATE: I apparently cannot match 235s on the front with 295s on the rear, I have researched this topic up/down and I get recommendations to go to 315s on the rear....this may be too big for me to handle.....therefore, I may need to settle on non-N rated smaller size tires.....
  3. Hello, I want to preface my post by stating that I have read almost every thread I could find on this topic but here's my real dilemma. I have an 03 TT with ContiSportContact 2 tires that really need replacing. I have had Michelin Pilot Sport tires on a previous Porsche and really liked them. Now I find out the Michelin PS2 is what most people rave about (at least for the TT). I am interested in the PS2s but find out that I can only get the rears (295 30/18) as an N rated tire (porsche's designation) The fronts (225 40/18) are only XL (extra load). What will happen if I mix XL fronts with N rears, if anything??? I am such a novice but have quickly gotten up to speed on these ratings.....any insights/advice would be appreciated! Thanks. cheers, TurboLove
  4. I appreciate the suggestions...I will look in my Excellence mag to see if there's that specific product you mention. If you had the name, that would be great! Thanks again!!!!!
  5. Okay, maybe this is just not a popular topic. But people have to be experiencing dings, no?? I will now try to ask if anyone has experience with touch up paint from a company called Autovisuals? (its their Autosharp Pen product) They advertise in our Panorama magazine. Has anyone bought their touch up paint? Did it match well? How did work out? I am honestly trying to figure out the best way to go without going to the autobody shop and having my door repainted (ugh!)....Thanks!!
  6. Hello, I have gotten door dings before but never with paint damage. I usually call the paintless ding repair (PDR) guy to come out and fix a small ding. However, this time: a ding along with paint damage. Its located just next to the driver's side door handle and about the size of a round tack (okay, lame analogy but couldnt come up with anything quickly) What have you done in this situation? I would welcome suggestions as well as advice. Thanks very, very much!!!
  7. Rob (artic silver), If you are saying you hardwired your V1 to your sunroof power source, I would totally love to get photos as well as explanation. I have heard that this is the better (and easiest) way to hardwire a V1. Thanks in advance for all your insights and experienece!!!!! cheers, Steven
  8. dumb followup question: So where is the best place to get said side markers? If looking for clear sidemarkers, get them from suncoast porsche. Good prices and fast shipping. here's their link: http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? it took all of 5 minutes to swap out and by far the easiest and best mod so far for me......
  9. I would suggest going with the car you most feel comfortable with. They're both really nice and you can't go wrong either way. It all boils down to what it is you really want in the car......good luck!!!
  10. Beecher, after reading your post, I am finally not feeling so bad. I too have an '03 TT and have experienced the very same challenges with my clutch. After reading Nick's reply, I have to say that his explanation may be the reason. Fun car to drive, indeed, once you get going!!!!! :D
  11. Thanks for the replies!! Appreciate confirming that I DONT have a problem! Cheers and happy driving!!!
  12. Okay, this may be a lame question but it's killing me: I have an 03 996 TT with the stock Porsche stereo headunit- CDR23 head unit (w/o navi) The question has to do with the lighting of the two knobs (left and right). When you enter the car (after unlocking it) are both knobs supposed to light up (volume/power left knob and station/track changing right knob)???? The stereo is turned OFF. In my car, I noticed that only the left, power knob lights up. Only when you turn the power of the stereo ON, does the right knob (with the left knob) light up. So, there is lame question; I am asking any fellow P-car nut who may have the same stereo to quickly comment. Thanks in advance!!!! cheers!
  13. final update: first, thanks for all the responses. I have and hopefully others have as well learned more about car batteries than ever before. I ended up bringing the car to the dealership and they replaced the battery under warranty. I also bought a battery maintainer which is now plugged in. This is one bit of advice everyone should take. This chapter is closed. thanks again.
  14. Guys, I'm in need of some serious advice. I was able to start my car again this weekend but when I parked it (10 minutes later) I couldnt start it. I had to call for a jump start to get it going again. (second jump in three weeks). The AAA guy did pull out a tool to check the battery and said that it was generating close to 14 amps (I guess that's what he read). Now the question: am I truly dealing with a dead/dying battery or could there be a starter or alternator problem? I suppose if it was a starter problem I wouldnt be able to start the car... The dealer wants to charge me $350 to check out the issues. ($280 for a new battery alone!) what would you do in this situation? I have seen the recommended Duralast 48DL battery that I could just install myself but could there be other hidden issues with my electrical system that I am not aware of?
  15. having had a '97 993 in the past, I am wondering about the inflateable spare. Dont you have one of those at least? (It's a spare tire that needs to be inflated). When I had flats with this car (2 unlucky times both rear), I would have the car towed to a tire facility, pump up the spare, order a new tire, and come back when it was in. I left the flat with the shop. I had 18" PS2 Michelin. I aslo bought the extended warranty and only paid $25 for both replacement tires (they were $300 at the time). The goo stuff you are talking about is an absolutely no-no. Never use that stuff especially on low profile tires. Plus if you get a flat, you will likely need a brand new tire since the sidewalls will be compromised by the weight of the car. recommendation: buy the collapsable spare tire if you dont have one. hope this helps.
  16. Note: I have something else to add. My battery gauge on my dash shows it at 14 ( the range is 10-16). According to the owner's manual, this is good. Could my problem maybe something other than the battery? like the alternator?? Just thought I would add as much info about what I am faced. thanks!
  17. Thanks for the comments thus far. So, if I decide to get one of the non-porshce batteries and replace it myself (which I cannot imagine to be that tough) I want to know the best way to ensure I dont lose all my stereo and other electronic settings. What is someone like me to do in this case? is there a certain amount of time that I can swap out the old battery to put in the new one and be safe in keeping all electronic settings? Just curious. are there any good DIY links someone can suggest? Thanks again for everyone's suggestions and help. I am such a novice it's not even funny!! :help: OK, I also just read up on The Battery Tender and see that it is indeed much cheaper than a Porsche Battery Maintainer (1/2 the cost). However, assuming the Tender does the exact same job, would I need a 1.25A 12 volt model for my car battery? I see there are all kinds of different Battery Tender models available. Any insights would again be appreciated. seems like the way to go when not driving a car daily....
  18. I have an '03 TT w/7K miles on it. Just last friday I drove it about 10 miles to run an errand. I got back into the car and would you know, I couldnt start the car. It definitely had to do with battery power. I called to get a jump and I was on my way. Now, I am starting to wonder if I need a new battery. I have read a couple previous threads but wanted to ask a few questions: 1) how long are original porsche batteries good for? Am I due to replace my original? 2) I may need a new one since I charged it (and drove the car around for about 40 miles), I just got into the car today and I sensed a bit of a lag when starting it. I noticed from a previous thread a Duralast 48-DL being one brand to fit 996. Which one is recommended for the turbo? any other brands recommended and what part #? 3) how much does Porsche charge for their batteries? 4) And lastly, what's the benefit of a battery maintainer except when the car is not driven regularly? should/can it be used on a new battery? thanks for any insights and experiences you may have to share!!!
  19. Thanks for this information! I appreciate the clarification. The car is LHD and has the BOSE system. I dont have the phone option. I think and please confirm that the parts in addition to the cd changer I still need are the harness 996-622-708-00 and bracket 996-645-229-00. PS- Thanks for deleting my other post since I couldnt do it myself.
  20. Here's the question: apparently there are at least two different part numbers associated with the CDC-4 cd changer: 996.645.140.00 and 996.645.140.02 Can anyone advise which one will be compatible for a 2003 996 TT with a CDR23 head unit (w/o navi)? As far as software is concerned, I hear that it's pretty much plug and play with the CDC-4 and CDR23. Why do I hear that may need to be programmed? Thanks for all/any insights! While I am at it, what's the correct part # for the fiberoptic harness/cable? I saw one of Loren's postings but I am still confused. I am an audio techno idiot.
