  1. Glyn Thanks, After the replies i was going to have the throttle cleaned but how would i get to the idle control valve without removing the throttle, . do you have any pictures or diagrams that i can use to see where exactly it is, also where would those two small bolts be located exactly?
  2. oh okay thank you  u was wondering what made it different
  3. thanks thorn. i know its kind of irrelevent since i dont have a 2000 but what exactly constitutes the E-gas cars ( like what is the E-gas)
  4. alright thanks for all the tips. im not there right now but i will let you know which way would be easier to get the top off so thanks for the step by step on that one. and Alright ill look into having the throttle body cleaned. i was going to do it when i first got it but compeltely forgot about it. as for the MAF there are two MAF parts thats i can get here off hand . they are both bosch parts but one part # is 0280218055 and the other is # 0280218145. okay so i just looked and those are not the parts for the 99 boxster. I found a bosch part # 0280217007 for 174.89 (msrp 285.42) and i believe that is the right part number for the 99' right? but the mechanic is telling me i need another one which runs about 350. i will post the part number when i get it but any help would be appreciated thanks. and whall. alright thanks . yah cause the car didnt come with the manaul :/ and wow thanks maurice so much that will help alot. I definately dont want to sell it unless i get another one but i was starting to lose hope but you guys got me back in the porsche spirits .
  5. Okay well against advice i bought a 99 porsche back in august because it was in great condition etc. I have been having it worked on here and there when i have a chance since august (both diy and mechanic for more advanced things) So far the fixes have included serpentine belt, fuel filter, oil filter and oil change, master brake cylinder, air filter, wheels, both window regulators, and steering wheel bracket.Every now and then we have had problems with the top not wanting to come down but for the most part it always works fine(yes i know about making sure the brake is all the way up etc) but the MAF code came up last week and they are trying to get the top to go down to acces the engine compartment but it just wont go down. they said that when the light on the dashboard for the convertible top isnt even showing anymore when the car turns on. They checked the fuses and the fuses are fine . Checked B6 and D3. Do you guys know of anything i can do to see why its not working or even to manually try to get it down so we can access the engine compartment. Aside from that since we got it, when the car is idling it tends to stall at times with the idling dropping below 7k. We have bene going down the list of things it could be and was hoping the changing out the MAF would fix it since that was the code that was now showing but if now what else could be the problem? Seeing as to how much ive put into this car already and i absolutley love this car i drove it from cali to texas and it drives great, but it seems that every time i get one problem out of the way another one arises :/ Should i try to fix up the last of it and hope thats it or just sell it and try to recoup my losses?any and all information or help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help
  6. okay one last question and i dont know exactly since i wont be back in town for another week and will only ahve about a week to fix it. If there is a possibility that there is not an airbag in the steering wheel, would the horn still be able to be used? or does it need an airbag. and if so where would i be able to get a replacement on short notice( keep in mind i do not believe there are any porsches in the el paso junkyards or such) thanks for any help :)
  7. Hey, so im still a relatively new member hear and looking to contribute within the next month hopefully once i get my car finally registered and everything.I bought a 99 porsche boxster a few months ago and have fixed majority of the car problems by myself and looking to replace the fuel filter before christmas. Now for my problem at hand so i can finally get it registered and tagged. When i was home for thanksgiving working on it i started going through fuses to fix several problems and found that the horn fuse was missing. So i put it in and the horn started going off like crazy so i removed the fuse again. I researched it and i believe its the bushings in the steering wheel and i have found many topics related to it but have not found any that cover how to diy fix the bushings. All the forums i find with links on how to fix it are closed links. If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Cause ive been having to walk to work and get rides for the past month untill i can get this car registered :/
  8. hey i know its been a year since you posted this bust just in case it was never resolved. i was having the exact same issues, it would lower on occasion when i open my door, but console switches , interior car lights, and the alarm / passenger system did not lock at all. it ended up being as simple as changing out the blown fuse. i believe you have to change out the fuse for C3, it requires a 15A fuse. hope this helps
  9. also for some reason when i lock it with the key manually , the lock soud for the car comes on but it doesnt lock. does yours do the same?
  10. @txhokie cars in el paso but im in lubbock right now but ill look into it thanks. yah for the most part after already putting several grand in just for the tires, mastercylinder and the other part im trying to find the best way without parts for labor killing me again @4agdtym oh yah i already knew that about the lever having to be up and the light indiciator. it only works about half the time but at least its coming up now thanks.
  11. To my knowledge no, and theres no physical signs of water damge
  12. battery is a year old it was tested and they said it was still good. some suggestions that a few friends said was that it might just be the spacing of the spark plugs. is that possible its causing the low idling. and yah for the top for some reason it goes up and down fine sometimes and other times it just completely refuses to respond so idk whats going on about that. but the main focus right now is the low idling causing it to stall. if its the vacuum leak or fuel pump how much do those usually run and how much for labor usually or can it it be a DIY project. thanks guys
  13. heres an update the mechanic replaced the master brake cylinder and the brake booster pump and now the braking problem is completely fixed and works like a charm, also got the wheels changed out and alligned. now for the other problems. the side windows are still not working. the right one clicks when i press the button and it does not go down so yes its the regulator. but the drivers window when i press down theres no sound and when i press up the doesnt press down at all whereas the passengers does, plusthe drivers side i can pull up and down about half way with my hand, so what could that problem be. Next is the top, yesterday it was having problems going back up after i finally got it down. but today i cannot get it down again. when i press the button for it to go down there's absolutely no response( same as yesterday when i tried putting it up) but when it actually went up yesterday it went up smoothly with no problems. lastly and most importantly though, is the problem with it dying out when i come to a stop and am idling or sometimes even when switching gears , what happens is when i am at a light is flucuates between 500 rpm and 750 or(.5 mark and .75mark before the 1 mark) especially when the air conditioner is on it flucuates lower that the 500 rpm at times, but regardless,it still keeps stalling out when it hits below the .5 mark. but at other times it will be idling and the rpm will stay fine without dying out. so any suggestions? is it the timing belt or the spacing between the spark plugs or even the spark plugs going bad or what. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
  14. Hey i posted in the forum yesterday and got most of the problems fixed but still have a few problems. The mechanic i took it too replaced the master brake cylinder and the brake booster pump . that fixed my brake problem. now for the other problems. the side windows are still not working. the right one clicks when i press the button and it does not go down so yes its the regulator. but the drivers window when i press down theres no sound and when i press up the doesnt press down at all whereas the passengers does, plusthe drivers side i can pull up and down about half way with my hand, so what could that problem be. 15. the porsche mechanic we did take it to yesterday though, which we are going to take to right now, said it might just be the brake fluid needs to be changed because the car had been sitting for a long time, but if not its the brake cylinder. is that right?
  16. yah definately i know that would be a pain trying to drive it home with those problems . thanks for the reply. yah the light on the engine temperature is about 180 but the light right next to it keeps blinking. and as for the top we would be trying to put it up when driving and parked. when it finally went up was when it was parked though with the parking break. but we had tried it before that parked and parking break and everything, And no we havent taken it to a place yet to get the codes i will do that today and let you know.
  17. im two states away from home in california to pick up my car and we test drove the vehicle and checked it out and it was fine. Shortly after we bought it and started driving it the car just keeps dying. If we turn up the ac while driving the car jsut stalls, even when parked. when the ac is off about every time we use the brake, if you barely press on the pedal, the pedal shoots down and the car stalls half the time also. On an off note the power top was down when we first got it and it wouldnt go up for about an hour or two. finally after we found a hotel and brought the things in, i go back and try it and it goes up perfectly fine. ANy help on any or all of these problems would be of great help asap. Just spent a good chunk of money on this car and it seems so far like its a lemon. Going to take it to a mechanic in the morning, any thing in particular he should look at? One more thing when we take the key out, the lights on the dash stay on unless i lock the car. Thanks in advance for the help and please dont leave degrading comments on how i should have had it inspected better. I had been talkin to the guy constantly for a month and it had all seemed like a solid deal. and now i just feel like crap after seeing this is turning out.
  18. I tried searching in the forums but could not find the issue. I just bought a 99 porsche boxster recently and its runs great. ONly problem is that the key starts the car fine but when im outside the car and press the lock button, the car wont lock unless i manually put the key in the door to lock it. The key battery isnt dead i dont believe because light still comes on when i press any button. Do i need to reprogram or what? ANy ideas?
  19. Hey i have a 99 porsche boxster and havent driven it in a while but am going to start using it as my daily driver. Has anyone messed around too much adding aftermarket security systems or touch screen radion systems ( dont need the nav) but adaptability to my iphone is preffered. Any help would be great .
  20. worked perfectly. thanks alot just saved me from a 13 hour car ride with no radio
