  1. Thanks for the info Jeff. I will probably take the door panel off and take a look. since everything seems to be working other than the door open function, it must me one of the pulleys. I will see. Any plans for a work on cars day in the near future with someone with door panel experience in attendance? Dan
  2. So either the regulator itself is damaged in some way or the one of the pulleys is broken? Or is this all a single unit. Can the pulleys be replaced individually? How much is a new regualtor? Are we talking big $$$? Thanks Jeff
  3. I am sure this has been discussed before but as usual until it happens to you, you tend not the let it register. Here is the problem. On the passenger side window, the motor is making noise and the window drops possibly a mm or 2 but does not drop enough to clear the top during opening or closing of the door. The window still operates properly going completely up or down but not in the closed position when opening or closing the door. Is this a sensor problem, mechanism, servo? When you open the door the window goes down slightly, if you press down on the top of the window it goes down to the proper opening-closing position. Tool Pants and or others...do you have any thoughts? Thanks in advance Dan Almaden Valley ca :help:
  4. Maybe you are pushing the button twice? If you push the alarm button twice in close succession then the horn (VW Beep) will sound and the lights will only blink for one extended time. At least that is what happens on my '99. Dan :D
  5. All, I am sure this has been discussed many times but I would like to get some feedback regarding where and how much $ folks have been recently spending on getting a B&M shifter. I think I may finally take the plunge and would like to get the best deal out there. Any info would be greatly appreciated :clapping: Thank you
  6. To check for a bad brake wear senson there is a cheap and easy way. Take the sensor that you think is bad and cut off the portion that fits into the brake pad. This will give you 2 small wire ends. Strip both wires and twist together and tape. Plug it back into the receptacle on the strut. If the brake wear sensor light stays off then you know it is a bad sensor. The sensors are just a complete circuit until the pads wear to allow the wire to be broken...interrupted circuit triggers the brake wear sensor. I got tired of mine so I just permanently wired all of them as above so the light stays off. I check and change pads often anyway for track purposes so the light was just an annoyance anyway. :D
  7. Riverflyer, The gentleman that has the silver modded Boxster has done many mods. GT3 seats, PSS9 suspension, 8 and 10 inch wheels and many body modifications. The car is currently having a 996 motor modified and readied for installation. I instructed him at the AX school earlier this year and saw him at the Coastal Driving School inaugural event at TH in April. The car was to go to the shop very soon after that for the motor swap. Can't remember his name but he is going all the way with this "street Boxster" :clapping: Dan
  8. Suppposedly there is an inspection plate on the Trans. case that can be removed to check the flywheel. I am not sure about this. Since they thought it was the clutch to start with they had already dropped the trans to do the service. I believe they can check for thickness and general surface irregularities. I am not sure whether they can check for play at the center section (dual mass) with out removing the trans. Possibly someone with more mechanical technical knowledge of the Boxster specifically can chime in on this...Tool Pants? :help: The car had ~30K miles when this was done. It was very pronounced at times and other times not so bad. Always seemed worse in reverse in my case. When they first did the clutch and resurfaced the flywheel I never had the opportunity to drive the car. My service advisor checked the car before I was to pick it up and then let me know that the problem was not fixed by replacing the clutch and resurfacing the flywheel. After the new flywheel was installed everything was back to normal. :clapping: Hope this helps...
  9. We are talking factory parts not aftermarket! Unfortunately $1250 is the factory price for a new stock flywheel! It is great that you have a new aftermarket clutch and light flywheel but that isn't the question is it? Maybe I missed something. ;) I have had the similar parts in other Porsches but thought we were discussing a stock Boxster with a drivability problem.
  10. Have your flywheel checked for spec. Last year I purchased a 99 Boxster that exibited some of the same symptoms. Took the car in to dealer and was told by service advisor it was probably the clutch. Ca had 25K miles at that time. Clutch was replaced and flywheel was resurfaced as part of job. Trans. was reassembled and tested by service advisor. Same problem!!! Flywheel was rechecked and found to be out of spec after service. Now new flywheel was installed with new clutch. No more problem. $1250 for new flywheel. Luckily since Trans would need to be dissambled for the flywheel job, I only had to pay for the new clutch parts ~$350, all other labor and parts including the flywheel were covered by warranty. 10K+miles later and still no more problems. Have that flywheel speced. Dual mass flywheels have a history of doing just this.
