  1. Can anyone take a picture of their engine compartment with the rear deck open? I need one from a car without the Aero kit or any other rear wing. Baskically I am looking for the struts that hold open the deck lid. I thought there were two (2) with one on each side. However after getting my car back from a recent visit to the dealer there is only one strut. Can someone go look on there car for me? MY99-01. Thanks.
  2. Ok, I don't think I did a good job of describing the part. Here is a picture:
  3. What is the proper name and part number of the piece of trim that fits up around the door seal that goes around the trunk and engine cover release. Mine is very scuffed and scratched up and I would like to replace it. Its maybe 3-4 feet long. Anyone know the cost. I just want black. Oh yeah for a MY 01 coupe. Thanks
  4. Thanks Loren. The clutch disk was not worn through. I have elected to not change it at this time.
  5. My car (2001 C2, 6spd 37k 1st RMS leak) is in for the dreaded RMS leak. I stopped by today at lunch to see the progress (they have had it for a week but just started on it yesterday - that is another story). I walk in and I see some things that looks strange...(1) the car up on the lift (normal), (2) engine on a bench (hmmm I thought they just dropped the transmission) and (3) transmission on the floor. I am losing confidence at this point. I go over and talk with the service advisor. It seems the major leak is from the intermediate shaft below the RMS but the RMS is "seeping" a little. I ask about the special tool for inserting for determining tollerances and I get a glassed over look with the comment "if it is a mandatory tool from Porsche we have it"...ok I am not feeling good...next I ask about the revised installation of the seal and the necessary tool and the most recent version of the RMS. Once again I get a glassed over look with a similar answer. I am a little concerned with getting this service done properly. Suggestions or help? Additionally I think I am going to have the clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing replaced while they "are in there". What is the recommendation for replacing the flywheel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I would do multiple searches for some of these answers but I am under a time restraint to decide about the flywheel. Thanks in advance.
  6. Is there a difference in the windshield? I ask because I need to replace my windshield and the dealership and the glass place I have contacted at this point both ask whether I have the rain senor.
  7. The ROW M030 is suppose to lower a US car with the standard suspesion around 20 mm in front and 10 mm in the rear (seem to vary +/- from car to car though). However, considering you are in the UK and already have a suspension that is lower than the US suspension, I doubt you you will get the 30 mm lower all around. Other alternatives that would work would be the various coilover suspensions with adjustable right heights or a "lowering" spring combo with your shocks (not recommended) or springs and shocks that are matched.
  8. I don't think the X74 will fit a MY 99. It is for the MY02 and newer.
  9. Scouser, I have read about your exploits with the RMS problems in the past. My sympathy with the lingering issue. Is your car still in the warranty period? If not do you have to pay for each one of these “repairs” or is Porsche paying? If the car is still in warranty has there been talk about repairing the RMS problem outside of warranty? Obviously you have a well documented problem with 4 repairs and I wondered if someone is standing behind the work.
  10. Msindi, Great looking car. How is night time visibility with the 35% tint? Side note: How do you like the HRE wheels?
  11. I tried to do a search but unfortunately PSM is less than the 4 character requirement. What was the first year PSM was offered on the Boxster?
  12. Well your first criteria was full filled. According to Porsche's web site... C4S Cab......5.0 sec. Boxster S.....5.7 sec. As for handling in corners that is subjective and very dependant on the drivers ability and the conditions. A mid engine design is more nimble, agile, tossable and arguably a better handler. However the same reasons it is more agile also make it much easier to lose in the hands of inexperienced driver. Once the rear is gone in mid you very likely are not going to get it back. Intertia is a funny thing. There are trade offs on both sides. This is why very experienced race drivers like mid engined cars. Their skills allow them to tap the cars potential. Some things (0-60) are perception and not real. The cars go about accomplishing things differently. The biggest complaint about the 996 has always been its "detached" or very refined feel. The Boxster is more raw so it gives you the perception is doing things better than the the 911, when in reality it may not be. It really just boils down to what you want and what you like. Maybe the the cab is just too refined and heavy for your liking...maybe the GT3 is more what you desire, NA power with a much more connected feeling. Or maybe a compromise with a coupe with ROW MO30 suspension is better compromise. No flame just some thoughts.
  13. Tony, sorry for the confusion, I misinterpret your post, as I was relating your comments to part of the original post that asked: “Why does the 911 feel sluggish compared to the Boxster S on straight aways (0-60)?” Cheers, Brian
  14. I am curious, why would spacers provide more of a feel of power and speed on the straights? Correct me if am I wrong but don't the spacers just widen the track of the car?
  15. I have used Klasse and Zaino. I found the Klasse All-in-one (AIO) easy to use but the Sealant Glaze(SG), which has most of the protection properties, difficult to use on dark colored cars. It always seemed to streak and required extra work to get looking good. I used zaino for about 4 years up until just this past fall. Zaino is extremely durable (last forever even longer than the Klasse twins IMO). Very slick surface and very shiny. Amazing durabilty. I personally find it a little to shiny on dark colors like black but great for silvers. It hids absolutely nothing. If you car has any swirl marks or scratches it will do nothing but magnify them. The z5 swirl mark remover is worthless in my experience. Surface preparation is key with Zaino, whereas the carnauba products mentioned like groits, some of mequiars stuff and Blitz help "fill" and hide any perfections. The down side to carnaubas is durability. If you like to wax monthly then carnaubas are great. I think they provide deep wet rich look that Klasse and Zaino do compare to. Another great carnauba if you decide to go that route is P21S (very easy wipe on wipe off application that will not stain trim and good durability for a carnauba).
  16. I currently use Einszett polishes, as they are easy to use by hand or random orbital machine. I am also using the Glanz Wax. There are lots of choices. Check out http://www.autopia.org/index.php for more information on polishes/waxes and car care than you ever wanted to know.
  17. The easiest thing to do is to place the jack stands at the factory lift points. For example if you want the front end lifted do the following....use your floor jack at the rear factory lift point on one side (just in front of rear wheel well), lifting the car high enough so that a jack stand can be placed under the front lift point (the chassis is stiff enough to easily do this)...then lower. Repeat this on the other side. This will result in having the entire front end supported by the jack stands. All four corners can be lifted by placing the floor jack under the engine casing and lifting the rear after placing the front on jack stands. Then place the jack stands for the rear under the rear lifting points. Care must be taken when doing this that the car does not go forward and fall off the front jack stands. Does this make sense? I am sure someone has some pictures of this procedure. If not the procedures is outlined and pictured for a 993 at www.p-car.com under the DIY section.
