  1. Car has a little shy of 25K. As per the IMS. I have no experience with the IMS problem except for reading about it. But as I understand it is shaft failure and the engine basically seizes. But in the case Engine is now running fine after the strange sounds, rough idle and burning some oil. So could it be the IMS or may be it is the spark plugs/coil issues etc. Not sure. Thanks.
  2. Dear Porsche Lovers, I have has my 997S (05) for about 6 months now. I drive it once a week or and yes I am spirited drivers. So far no issues. However this morning when I started the car, it started off with some strange klanking noises in the engine, un-even engine idle, nasty smell, (I think it was burning the oil) and then the check engine light came on (Flashing) along with 'Visit repair shop' on display. At the same time idle started to normalize, smell dissipated. However I turned the car off immediately. Waited for about couple of minutes and started it again. This time started off totally fine. No rough idle, check engine light is gone, engine sounding as it should. Moved the car a bit around, no issues. There are no leaks anywhere. I checked the oil level on the display after 30 min and it was at the low end of the indicator. (It was in the middle last weeK). Question. What happened?? Did something get damaged, broken.....or is this to be expected every so often on these cars. The car is under full warranty (Extended) so I will get it checked with I am back from vacation, but any ideas what could have happened would be help. Thank you Noor.
  3. When I bought my C2S it had 21K on it. They had to fix the RMS issue and I had them look at the clutch. The dealer told me that the clutch is 80% intact and no need for a replacement. It all boils down to, how you drive. 21K and 80% intact means, it can go over 100K if driven in a similar fashion.
  4. Folks, I have a 05-C2S with a Sport Chrono Package. My car has a very nice and pleasing growling engine sound, specially when I start and hear the sound reflections in the garage. Is it possible that I have some sound mod done or my car has a sport exhaust. I don't think it does, but I thought I check around. Thanks Noor.
  5. Thanks for all the reply's folks. Honestly this sounds like a noise from inside the cabin and not from outside. It is almost in your face. Adjusting the steering wheel in real time does away with the sound for a while. In fact for last 2 days there is no sound. It sound almost like that TSB I am pointed to. Let me follow the TSB, do the fix and see if it goes away. If not then trip to a dealer. Thanks again for all the pointers. This forum and the people are awesome. Noor.
  6. Folks, Has any one experienced a creaking/squeaking (not rattling) noise around the steering column of their 05 C2S or other similar car? It happens on slight uneven road surfaces. Not always though. Sort of random in nature. The quick temp fix so far has been to readjust the steering wheel, (up/down or backward/forward, sort of randomly) and the noise disappears. but then it would reappear again in the same very position on the next run. It is not a loud sound and seem like it is coming from inside the cabin, like almost 2 surfaces rubbing against each other. There is no impact on the handling or steering capabilities of the car. Just annoying. Where should I look for the problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Noor.
  7. OK. So here is my personal experience with our family 06 Cayenne S that my wife drives. All gas mileage, engine quirks and greatness of the car, in terms of power, acceleration etc and others issues that are being talked about aside, the one SINGLE reason I love this car is because it may have literally saved my family's life. Late last year, my wife was driving, with I on the passenger seat and my 2 boys (5 and 6 then) in the rear seats. We were in the middle lane on i680 going North bound at about 70+MPH. There was a honda accord in fast lane little ahead of us on the left side driven by some female who I believe was trying to text using her cell phone while driving. All of sudden I noticed that the honda has started to swerve around and she lost control of her car with all the action in next few micro seconds. The next thing I know that Honda has completely done a 180 and I am looking at its headlight directly coming towards us. My Wife does what her instincts tell her to do, pulled the steering wheel to the right to avoid a head-on collusion pushing our Cayenne in right lane, avoiding the head-on with the Honda and yes there was another car in the slow lane ahead of us moving in the right direction however at a slower speed and after we missed the honda literally by inches or centimeters, my wife pulled the car right back in center accelerating to avoid the collusion with the slow car. And with in split of the second it was all over and we were completely untouched. The Honda behind us passed over the slow lane and hit the edge of the highway crashing into a dirt mound. I can tell you, if this was another SUV (May be besides an X5) God knows what would have happened to us. My wife is a good driver but she is not professionally trained. She halls my 2 boys to school and soccer fields. That day every penny that I have spent on this car paid off and more. And I had a totally new found respect for this fine machine. I am a fan for life. 14MPG or 21MPG, nothing is worth more then your life. Only thing you have in your control on the road is your action and not the other drivers. Get this car!
  8. Folks, My 06 Cayenne is almost out of warranty. 49K miles. I plan to keep the car as there is nothing else like that on the road. My wife loves it. 2 different bay area dealers have quoted me between 4K and 5K for Platinum extended warranties. The car has been pretty much trouble free so far. Nothing major. Navi was replaced once and the Xenon lamp leveling system another time. Engine, trani, suspension, no issues and in very good condition. Can anyone recommend a good company I can buy my warranty from along with how much should I expect to pay for something like 3 year 36K miles type of platinum warranty. Thanks Noor.
  9. Got the car today. This thing is a riot. Way better then my previous 00 C4 Cab. Will post pics soon. Thanks again for all the help. NL.
  10. Good deal Noor, very similar to what I drive! Warranty is an excellent bonus you're getting with the car! That's one thing I wish I got. congrats if you buy it, put up some pics Sam Make sure the extended warranty is really transferrable. some of them require the approval by the insurer. When I bought mine I had a PPI also and had work done by the seller which the policy covered. I called the warranty company (Great lakes) to do the transfer ( I think there was a $150 fee). Well a couple of days later I get my payment and transfer application back in the mail. They turned down the transfer. I guess they figured they'd forgo the $150 to avoid future claims during the remaining 15 months left on the warranty. Good input guys. I am checking with the warranty company. I did read the contract and it needed a $40/- transfer fee and I don't remember anything else in terms of pending approval of the company. So I think it is simply transferable by paying the fee. But I will double check. Will post pics once I bring it home. Thanks again. Noor.
  11. Folks, I am getting back into 911's (yeah baby). And about to purchase a 05 997 C2S coupe. Fully loaded, Navi, Bose, Sport Chorno, 6 Speed. with 21K miles on it and solid mint condition. Local car. Upon inspection by a local Porsche dealer they found the RMS leak, which is being fixed under the extended warranty that the seller has. 3/36....till end of 2011 or 56K miles. paying 44.5K for it. From my research it sounds like a good deal and we have a deal. Wanted to put it out there to reaffirm. Also anything else I should be looking out for? I have read about the IMS issue, but my understanding is, it is rare and since I do have the extended warranty, if the engine blows, it will be covered by it. Anything else to look for? Thanks.
  12. Just got BridgeStones RE750's in my C4. Coming from Conti's, absolutely awesome tire.....and 30% cheaper then Conti's
  13. Hi, Things have been fine since then. No Clunking or burnt smell noises. I have driven about 500 miles since then and no issues so far. Smooth as a butter. Good Luck. Noor.
  14. Update: Dec 21st. Picked up my car today from Carlson Porsche. They couldn't duplicate the problem or sound and neither could I. No faults were stored. Check Engine light was MAF sensor which they replaced under warranty. Also the coolant expansion tank was leaking which I had always suspected and they replaced that under warranty as well. Only time will tell if that sound caused any damage to the engine. So for now I will not loose sleep over. Enjoy my car as it is simply a blast. Also got the Oil/Filter replaced. Dealing with service dept at Carlson Porsche (Redwood city) has been my finest experience in dealing with Automotive repair industry. They are simply the best. Noor.
  15. Update: So I started my car again in the evening and it started and ran flawlessly. No more sounds of anykind. I took for a brief run and no sounds. Again tired this morning and no issues at all, nice smooth, no funky sounds and no erratic idle. Check engine light however stays on. Will get that checked on Monday. So I am really not sure what the heck happened, but it certainly was strange. May be the oil didn't build pressure in time to make it to the valve lifters. No sure. My worry is, if somehow I have managed to damage the engine, shorten the life in any form or way. I do have warranty left for one more year, so my guess is if something is going to go majorly wrong, it will happen next 13 months. Any comments? Thanks.
  16. So guys, My CEL light on my 00 C4 is back on as of last tuesday (Solid). This morning after not driving my car for 2 days, when I started the car there was the loud clunking sound from the Engine. It reved up as the Engine Reved up. Idle was also not stable. After running the engine for about 2-3 min the sound has subsided more of less, but idle is still somewhat unstable. This is a new engine with 13K miles on it. Sounded like valve lifters vario-cam type of issues. It is in warranty so I will take in on Monday. But is my Engine totally shot? Or could it be a bad spark plug or something like that? Also if the sound goes away, is it safe to drive to dealer like this or should I have it towed. Thanks for help. Noor.
  17. Went to Carlon Porsche today and they said its all Normal. Fluid fluctuates between min and max depending on the temp of the car. So I am not going to pull my hair on this. Next major service I will have them look into it in details. Worst case, I will get a new Engine! All under the Warranty:-) Thanks for replies. Noor.
  18. Loren, Thanks for the reply. Is there a TSB on this? or something I need to pay from my pocket or will the Certified Warranty covers it? Noor.
  19. Folks, My 00 C4 with 13K Miles on a new engine and a total of 33K miles is experiencing a very minor Coolant Loss (I think). Initially when i bought the car with a new Engine, the Coolant according to the dealer was a bit more then it should be and hence I saw some coolant around the cap area. They performed a pressure test on the cap and it did not leak, but did observe that the cap is a old style cap. Over the course of 11 months and 13K miles of driving, I have also noticed that the Coolant level over all has somewhat decreased from the max level to now just a little below min level. I have not topped it off a single time. Also I notice that the coolant level varies during the course of driving. Warm car will show a close to max coolant level and cold car will show a <min level. My concern is, Do I have a leak, busted Gas kits or is this all normal? Car is under full warranty. Before I take it in, want to hear from you guys. Thanks Noor.
  20. So I a have 00, C4 Cab. It has 12K miles on the new Engine. (total of 32K miles). Yesterday I filled the gas and checked the Oil and Coolant levels. Oil was at 5/8 before the full mark on the dip stick and Coolant was at "Min" I got the oil changed about 5K miles ago. During the day (80deg sunny) when I started the car I thought I noticed a white Smoke Puff. Took the car to work. Allowed it to cool down and checked the coolant again. It was still on the 'min' mark. Then later in the afternoon, drove home, once I got home I checked he Coolant level while Engine was running (No I didn't open the cap) just checked it thru the Expansion tank, the Level was at 'Max' while the engine was Idling. My concern is abviously the white smoke puff and it being somehow related to the Coolant.....Coolant in the engine is a bad thing......! So question is, is this all normal? I have read several posts on White Smoke Puff but nothing definite. Does the Coolant level vary during vehicle operation? Any help would be helpful.. As I understand, under no circumstances the car should loose any coolant...It indicates either an external or an internal leak. The car is under full Porsche warranty.....So I can always have the dealer check it.! I did have'em do a pressure test on the cap and Exp. tank and it all passed with flying colors. This was few months ago. Thanks Noor.
  21. I am not sure if the CEL has anything to do with the Coolant cap. It usually has something to do with the emission issues. I had mine come and go for some time. Would come on stay on for 2-3 days and then go away for 2-3 days. It is mostly to do with a marginal O2 sensors. There are total of 6 sensors on a 996 and anyone going bad can turn this light on. They replaced all six sensors in my car to fix the issue. Keep an eye on the CEL light. If it comes back again have some decode the code and make sure it is not the O2 sensor. Good Luck. Noor.
  22. Once you go to court and make the case, I pretty sure Judge/Jury can ask for the all records and they will have to disclose them. US consumer laws are fantastic but I am not sure how they are in GB. Just going to the court and having them served the court papers, they will fix your car with a new engine and extend your warrantty. Stop wasting time. Call them and tell them that they have 24 hours to fix this thing or your are hadding to the court and that you are serious. If they don't come thru in 24hours, go to the **** court and file a law suit. See how fast they fix the problem. Noor.
  23. I bought a 2000 C4 in last Jan 2004. The car had a 20000 miles on it, however its engine was replaced along with the Clutch when the dealer took the car back from the lease. Engine was replaced due to RMS and off-centered crack shaft. So I got a the car with a new engine and the clutch. They also replaced tires for me as well. Since then I have been driven this car for about 7000 miles. No issues so far. I also have a 2 year 100K Porsche Warranty that cover most things including all seals and engine in the car. So I guess here is another case for a replaced engine due to a RMS leak and off-centered CS. I am not sure about UK, but this has a smell of Class-Action against Porsche-US all over it. I would collect stats, go to court if necessary, have them pay the Court fees, pull all the repair records world-wide and see what the heck is going on. To me this calls for a TSB to replace the entire Engine with a new engine does not suffer from this design flaw, because this is exactly what this is. Bad Engine Design by the top car manufacturer of the world. Any lawyers on around. Noor.
