  1. I contacted precision they still do the mod but using your pipes they don't exchange them. are these the pipes that run under the car from the engine to the front of the car? I want to install the 3rd radiator. I have the center radiator and the S Y coolant lines. Not sure what else I would need. Also how difficult is this to do? Seems like replacing the coolant hoses is a PITA! in the wheel wells. I have so far replaced both coolant fans, water pump/themostat/engine mount, new brakes, brake booster retro seal kit, so I am quickly becoming an experienced Boxster mechanic. I don't want to take the car apart and not have the parts I need to complete the job.
  2. I want to re-dye my faded carpets in my 99 Boxster base. interior trim code is MA Carpet color code is M30. I have contacted leather magic and they don't know what M30 means. Does anyone know what color this might equate to? When I look at the Boxster Red on their website it looks more brownish than the boxster red of my interior and yes I know the sun has done some damage to my interior.
  3. just checked pelican $300 but out of stock. Has anyone done this on their own car? Any way to be sure this is the issue?
  4. @JFP yes I know exactly what you are saying and agree with you. But since I am the primary mechanic on the job I don't worry about labor costs!
  5. the latest ailment afflicting my 99 Boxster Base Tiptronic is I stop the car and shift into "Park". the car is in Park and I shut the car off. I get back in and the car won't start. I thought it might be the ignition but I realized when I go to start the car even thought the shifter is in Park the indicator on the dash says its in R. When I turn the key and shift it out of park then push kind of hard into park the indicator shows it in Park then I can start the car. I am guessing there is some sort of a switch in the console? Does anyone have experience with this and can give me some guidance?
  6. I recently replaced my water pump, thermostat, and front engine mount. I had drained the coolant by removing the hose to the thermostat and waterpump. I put it all back together and added a couple of gallons of FRESH pre-mixed prestone anti-freeze, silicate free, phosphate free, etc. I realize 2 gallons will NOT completely fill the system. I was going to use the Burp method to purge air from system but decided to purchase a UVIEW airlift 5500 system. I have seen the youtube video. I was wondering will it still work if the system is partially filled with coolant? Should I drain what is in the system, use the Airlift system then re-fill again using the Airlift system once it has vacuum?
  7. I have a 99 boxster. didn't realize I was in the wrong forum. I have replaced the sensor with a new bosch unit. when I remove the relay and use a jumper to trigger the fan I hear the fan go on but don't see the blades turning.
  8. Has anyone replaced the engine compartment fan? anyone know of DIY?
  9. I am planning on doing this soon. but i dont understand what the aluminium flat stock is for when installing the rear bushings.
  10. I have an Ever Start from Wal-Mart and I cannot find a fitting for a vent tube anywhere. Any ideas?
  11. All set figured it out, REAL FUN JOB! I thought replacing the fans was a fun job!
  12. Thanks Loren, you learn something new every day. Now I have to find where my battery vent is!
  13. I have never heard of a battery vent before. How can you tell if the battery is vented? I have a 99 boxster and have the same clear tube that runs to the passenger side.
  14. I have a 99 boxster and trying to figure out how to install the brake booster update kit. I have the TSB but still am confused on how to do the install. I was able to attach the 2 pieces to the firewall but the problem is how do I compress the new bellows and still tighten up the rod to the booster?
  15. I have a 99 boxster. While trying to install the update brake booster bellows kit I tried to clean out the drain hole grommet under the brake mechanism to the right of the battery as you are standing in front of the car (USA spec). Needless to say I pushed it in and couldn't get it back through the hole. So my question is if I don't replace the grommet where does the water drain too? Should I replace the grommet? If so how can I get to it to re-install it? Am I better off just buying a grommet and popping it in? I would like to resolve this as painlessly as possible since I am installing the update to the brake booster bellows I don't want to get a flood elsewhere. Can I just buy another grommet and hose and install it? If so anyone know part numbers?
  16. All set lots of PB blaster, grip pliers, and patience. Replaced the speed sensor and still the ABS light was on. Checked under the hood and could hear vacuum leak. The vacuum tube that comes out of the fender was not in all the way, car ran much better. Then I took off the ABS plug and one of the pins was bent. Carefully straightened it out with needle nose pliers and put the plug back on and no more ABS light.
  17. thanks JFP in PA. I am spraying with PB Blaster then going to get grip pliers and try to twist. I already broke off the tab where the hold down screw goes through. I was wondering about anti-sieze but wasnt sure if it would affect the performance of the sensor. this all stared with the code 4200 after I replaced the booster and master cylinder and painted the calipers. You fix on thing and something else breaks. PITA!
  18. any tips on getting the old sensor out? I bought a new one and the old one doesn't seem to be budging.
  19. I was getting an error 4200 which tells me there is an issue with the right front speed sensor. so I got a new speed sensor and am trying to remove the old one. Does anyone have any advice on how to get the old one out with as little drama as possible? PB blaster? Slide hammer and a couple of screws? I have a 99.
  20. I recently replaced the water logged brake booster along with the master cylinder. While I was at it I removed the calipers and painted them and replaced the brake fluid. I put everything back to together bled the system and everything seemed to be fine. when I started the car the ABS light was on. when I put my durametric on I got the fault code "4200 Front right speed sensor - op. circ./GND/+ short". I took the right front wheel off and made sure the plug was in tight along with the wear sensor. figured I might have knocked something loose. Re-checked with the Durametric and same thing. Should I just replace the speed sensor? Its a 99 Boxster base with 76k on it. Also, when I tried to drive it around the block the car would not shift I assumed this is due to "safe Mode" due to the ABS light being on? I am planning on replacing the right front sensor. any other ideas what might be the issue?
  21. I am planning on adding the S center radiator to my 99 Boxster base. Should I also consider replacing the coolant hoses pipes with S hardware? I seem to remember reading the S pipe diameter was larger than the base so I am assuming if I wanted to do this conversion I would have to replace inlet/outlet coolant connections to the engine? I have reviewed the center radiator install on Pedro's Board and Pelican but no discussion regarding coolant lines. Any thoughts?
  22. I recently purchased a factory 3 spoke tip wheel to replace my 4 spoke POS. went well the only problem I encountered was the Male plug from the column into the steering wheel.there are 3 brown wires, 2 went into the plug a third wire brown and red was not connected but the plug looks like it can accept a 3rd wire. any way to tell what that third wire is for? My tip thumb switches don't work I am thinking this is why.
