  1. What you are hearing is the spark plugs firing. That used to be a shade-tree mechanics tuning tool. If it has suddenly become much louder you could have your mechanic look for a loose ground in the stereo system or check the engine wiring harness for wear. If the lines from the the amp to the head unit are not properly shielded it will be loud. The antenna doesn't pick it up as well so although you can still hear it it's quieter. It's easiest to hear when you are between am stations. If you hear it all the time then it's most likely a loose ground between the head unit and amp.
  2. I'll order them and see if they do the trick. Thanks Jeff
  3. RE: Torx drivers. Porsche uses a wide variety of bolt sizes, I'd just pick up a complete Torx set at Home Depot or your local hardware place. Cheap and ultimately very useful. Another option, and more convenient, is a set of folding torx keys. I've used virtually every bit in my set although there are one or two sizes that are used much more commonly. The oil drain plug is an oddball XZN socket, more commonly used by Mercedes. That's the only non-standard fastener I've run across. In general I find my baby surprisingly easy to work on.
  4. Ah HAH! The part on the top row center in your picture appears to be the right part. I could be wrong but it has the right shape to it. The bottom center terminal may be the large relay terminal but it's harder to tell. May I ask what part numbers those are? Thanks, jonathan
  5. Unfortunately not. I ordered a few of those to check. The relay terminals are in two sizes (the one in Jeff's diagram is the smaller of the two) but will not slot the fuses. I also tried the local electrical houses and Digikey but no joy.
  6. That's kinda the issue. In that diagram, which I have, there is no part shown. It SHOULD be somewhere nearby the lower right. The lower right area shows fuses, the fuse support, and the slide (locks electrical connectors in place) but NOT the electrical connectors that would be inserted into the fuse support. Should be a connector that would crimp onto a lead, insert into the fuse support, be locked by the slide, and accept one blade from a fuse Listed somewhere else? Or maybe I am being dense and missing the obvious?
  7. Jeff, Any ideas on the part number for the fuse recepticals in the fuse box? I'm looking for the female ends that the blade fuses plug into. Responding to the seat heating question reminded me that I never did find that part. I ended up buying a wrong-sized AMP connector and trimming it to fit. Non-ideal of course and I'd like to replace it if possible. Thanks in advance, jonathan
  8. Mark, If you buy seats that include the heaters then installation will be much easier. The under-seat wiring harnesses can be bought from Porsche for about $30/side. Depending on what exactly the seat comes to you with you may also need to purchase a pair of relays, also one per side, and in the same price range. Installing the harnesses and relays is a matter of snapping the plugs together if you have the preinstalled seat-heaters. Installing the switches to replace the switch blanks is trivial. The challenging part will be the wiring running between seat harnesses and switches. It is simple wiring, power, ground, and two relay settings, but difficult to run cleanly. Wiring flows from the seats out to the door sills, runs under the door sills up to the under-dash bundle, across to behind the AC control unit, and then down to the switches. The under seat/door sill part is relatively easy, the under-dash wiring is a chore. Tie wraps and creativity work just fine though. After running a non-factory path for a year and a half I eventually pulled the entire dash off and rewired it along the factory bundle (I needed to remove the dash for another reason anyway) just to satisfy my need for elegant implementation :) On the driver's side, you will need to tie power for both seats into the fuse block. There are power wires available to tap into. I wanted to go into the stock location on the block so I trimmed a non-stock metal connector to fit the fuse block in the correct location. I have not yet found a part number for the stock connector. So the summary is, still a pain, but I feel it was worth it. Another alternative might be to order a new dash harness that includes seat heating (and whatever else you desire, e.g. auto-dimming mirror, cell-phone hook-up, etc). Or trade for a model that has the heated seats already :)
  9. Clutchmasters also has one, not sure the pricing. Looks identical to the Electrodyne item; maybe same source.
