  1. My 2000 c2 cab did the same thing. I went to a few auto upholstery shops and all said that this is a very common repair for them on Porsche cabs. One told me it could not be done and I had to get a new top, even though my top still looked brand new except for the poorly designed rear window. I received quotes from $400 - $850, so check around. The shop that did mine, put in a new plastic window, heat glued it in, and put two rows of stitching around it. I think it almost looks better withthe stitching around the window. any good auto upholstery shop should be able to do this job, or the other option is what a Porsche dealer will tell you is 1900 for a new top, and another 1000 to install! crazy, if your top is still in good shape! capt601
  2. Tool Pants I am trying to research getting the OBC retrofit and was leaning towards the stalk, but saw some writeups about using a switch. where do they put the switch, and is it any easier? can you also send me a list of the parts needed? thanks capt601 PS yeah, I know this is an old topic and post from 2004, but it had some good info and just wanted to followup.
  3. i seem to remember seeing that someone wrote about this before. I may have seen it over on rennlist.com. I will try searching around for the link. capt601
  4. Thanks Loren. I'll be taking it to a shop to get it checked with a PST2 this week. Will the PST2 narrow the problem down to what it is, or is it just a general test? and if it is a bad control module - how difficult is it to replace myself. thanks again. capt601
  5. just scanned my car with the Durametric diag. tool and in the alarm fault codes, it came up with: 33 - no passenger compartment monitoring 60 - central locking limit position locked not reached any ideas as to how to reset these or exactly what they mean? thanks capt601 2000 996 cab
  6. thanks gator911, which clip are you referring to on the fuel filter? is there one holding it up in place, that you have to remove after you disconnect the rapid-action couplings (step 3 in the DIY)? also, one dumb question - how much fuel ends up coming out when you disconnect? Is there a check valve in the line to prevent you from draining your whole tank on yourself, while you have it disconnected? thanks again capt601
  7. thanks for the reply. I read your write-up over at rennlist and I was amazed at everything you did. The polyrib belt seems to be pretty easy, but the fuel filter appears to be a little tricky. Is it a pain removing the panels underneath to get access to it? and once there is it as easy as you describe to get access to the filter? the rest of the 60K check seems to be just visual checks of the other items? thanks again!
  8. I am trying to plan ahead for my upcoming 60000 mile maint. and it looks like quite a few of the things you can do yourself - ie. replace polyrib belt, spark plugs, etc.. has anyone ever done this one (60000 mile check) themselves? and if not what was the cost at a shop? If I do these myself, how hard will the above items be, and what other items need to be looked at? I have printed out the list under the maint checklists already. thanks. capt601
  9. is their anyway to lubricate this bottom seal on the window? I just noticed my passenger side window is catching (rubbing?)on the seal as it is lowered down. The window still goes down, but it appears that it is slowing the movement a little. thanks
  10. my screwup! the bill they gave me before I really looked at the tires said the 40 size, but they were 275 35-18.
  11. has anyone ever put these on as their rear tires and would there be any issues with these tires? thanks
  12. I just picked up my 2000 cab. from an auto upholstery shop that stitched 2 rows around the plastic window. Mine started pulling away on the bottom left. He told me that he gets many Porsche cars in for this same problem. I had 1 shop tell me I had to replace the whole top. But all of the others said that the plastic window can be stitched back in. I had quotes form $475 to $875 in the Socal area. Also see about putting a new plastic window in while they are doing this. Mine looks just like it did before, except for the stitching around the window. Most people won;t even notice. Just find a good auto upholstery shop, and you will see that they have done this before. good luck. capt601
  13. here is an easy way to get cupholders in a 2000 Porsche. http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/ I bought them for mine and they actually work really good, and can be removed if I don;t need them. capt601
  14. I'm looking at replacing the factory speakers in my 2000 996 cab with the HIFI option.. So far in researching it appears that the Focals are pretty good speakers. for sizes it appears that the 100kp's for the dash , and 5ws for the doors. which ones for the rear speakers? Is it the 100kp's? Also, is anyone familiar with www.woofersetc.com ? they have the 100kp's here: woofers etc 100kps but I am not sure if I need all of that or just this 100kps . thanks for the help and does anyone know of any better places to find the speakers? thanks
  15. i have this same option on my car that I just bought a few months ago and always wondered where the lumbar control was. I have that same black cover in the same spot behind the other seat controls. I will pop mine off tomorrow and see what is under there. capt601 2000 996 cab
  16. I have a 2000 cab that I just bought a few months ago and it was not beading also. So I bought the Porsche Covertible top Conditioner, which you spray on once or twice per year. Every time I wash it, i use Raggtop Convertible top cleaner. You just spray on the Raggtop after you wet it down and scrub it with a brush, the hose it off. Very simple. When you use the Prosche Conditioner, you just want to make sure you block off any areas you don't want the spray to get on ( ie. the rear window, painted surfaces, etc...). AFter you use it the top will bead up water for quite a while. You can get the raggtop and www.autogeek.net . they also have a raggtop conditioner product that probably works just as well as the Porsche conditioner. they also have good instruction on how to clean your top. you can get the porsche conditioner at www.drivewerks.com. I bought mine through automotion.com, but I can not find it on their website now. capt601
  17. my car also when it is warm sits just above 1 bar while idle. Now i am wondering if it was serviced with the wrong weight of oil before I bought it. I have only had it a month and it was given an oil change in november (before I owned it.) Is it worth taking it in to get a fresh oil change?
  18. After seeing some interior pictures of other cars, I was thinking about installing new trim pieces for the front and rear center console. (and other areasa?) Our interior right now is all Black, and we thought that the aluminum trim interior would like pretty nice. Does anyone have any pictures of the interior after their install (especially on a black interior)? How difficult of a task is it to replace these pieces? It looks like the front console trim just pops right out, but the rear console , it appears you tkae the whole thing out? I was looking around on the bumperplugs.com website - are there other websites that you recommend to look for the trim pieces? thanks all. capt601 2000 Arena Red C2 Cab
  19. which air filter do you recommend? K&N or BMC or are there others? thanks
  20. I just finished spraying the switch out with electrical part cleaner and the switch seemed to be working now. I didn't pull the console out all of the way, so I could not tell how that switch even came out. I did not see any screws on it from the angle I was looking. Do you know where the screws holding it in place are for when I do replace it? We used to live in South Carolina (for 2 long years!) now we are living in Southern California and are ready to go out and about for the first time with the top down. (We have only had the car two weeks!) thanks again for your responses.
  21. do you know what the switch part number is? and is it a common switch or only a porsche part? In other words can I goo over to autozone and find teh part. thanks again
  22. thanks Izzy. just checked and the parking brake handle is not activating the brake light. Where is the switch and how is it replaced?
  23. hello. Just went to operate the cabriolet top from the switch inside and it would not operate. I could hear a just a faint click from behind the rear seats but the top would not operate. I put the key in the door lock to operate it and it operates normal. any thoughts? 2000 c2 cabriolet
