  1. well it didn't come free. I had to show him around our new Tesla Model S and give him a test drive!
  2. looks like i found the part number -996-110-129-53-M100 . $122 on pelican.
  3. thanks guys!!. one of my neighbors who is a porsche mechanic was able to come down and right away said the purge valve. he has seen it do exactly what i described many times. now i am just trying to figure out the part number.
  4. Ill check that, but wouldnt the purge valve show up as a different code? thanks.
  5. just had a CEL come on and durametric is showing: P0440 - Porsche fault code 93 - Fuel tank ventilation minor leak. checked the simple thing of the gas cap, and while it looks good, I will probably order a new one. any other ideas as to where to troubleshoot this? forgot to add, recently i have had a couple of occasions where the car has been difficult to start. having to crank for a while for it to finally start. stalled once on me at a light , and cranked for maybe 15 seconds for it to fire up. the other time was after getting gas, and had to crank twice for 20 seconds to get it to start.
  6. both left and right temperature controls are set to 64 degrees. left side is very noticably colder than the right side. both at the center vent and each side vent. what is the cause? servo? and is it a servo buried above the glolvebox. thanks
  7. Hey Loren. I am also doing the rear brakes and rotors, and it is definitely different from the front brakes. First question, the caliper bolts holding on the caliper are a 12 point star design (ie like a torx bit) not like the front which you can take off with a regular socket. Do you know what size that star bolt is? I tested with a T60 torx bolt and it is quite a bit smaller than what is needed. and do you know anyplace to buy the required 12 point bit? here is a photo of the bolt. FWIW... these bits are called triple square. XZN is the technical designation. I bought a set of them from Amazon.com believe it or not. I have not used them yet to do the brakes. Here is a tiny url to the set that I bought. http://tinyurl.com/o7tw4o FYI as I understand the torque settings for the bolts holding the calipers in place is 200 ft lbs. Make sure you have a good set of these bits before you apply that much torque to remove them. As soon as I find out what size I need for those bolts I will be buying the snap-on version of that size thanks to the fact their set is 176 bucks! Thanks. I borrowed one from my neighbor who is a indy Porsche technician. Yeah, the front caliper bolts are 200 ft/lbs. but he said the rears are 120 ft/lbs. I just tried getting either one of the ones on the left side off, and no luck. the bottom one is the only one I have room to really usesome force to get it to move and no such luck. the top one, I can just barely get the bit on the bolt( due to a stabilizer arm or something being in the way), so no luck with even trying with that one. I have all of the parts, so I am going to take them down to their shop and see what they will charge just for the install. thanks Mudman. Guess I'll have to get one more tool for the tool box :)

  10. i think I used a small screwdriver with a little bit of tape around the end to prevent scratching the lens.
  11. that is very good information. Our display has done that (the top and bottom) for the past two years, and 2 weeks ago was at a Porsche dealer to fix the coolant distribution pipes, and my wife picked it up and the display did not work at all. Of course, they had no idea and it wasn;t there fault!! (as they said) even though it had been working normal for a long time. They changed out the LCD with one from another they had lying around, and it has been working ever since. we'll see. Which ground did you disconnect? Just the battery or is there something else I am missing. and thanks for the update.
  12. got it. reset via durametric, and now we will see when it comes on next. thanks all.
  13. probably a dumb question, but hey, you got to ask them sometimes :P !! just did an oil change on my 04 cayenne S. ( and I forgot to take some photos for the DIY  .I did not have the service reminder light for the oil change but was at the mileage and time that I wanted to perform the change. So, the question, do I need to hook up my Durametric to reset the Service light, even though it isn't on? If I do not, when or will it trigger for the next oil change? thanks, and I will take some pictures on the next oil change. second time doing it and it is very easy. The hardest part is taking the time to get the 2 panels off. And be forewarned, the oil out of the front drain plug comes out extremely quick and with some force!!
  14. Thank you very much for the reply Mr.Admin. done it already coil has no cracks~ How is it to change the spark plugs? just curious about the access to them? pretty easy? thanks
  15. anyone change the air filters on a 2004 CS? I found the writeup for the v6, and will write one for the v-8 but want to make sure I am doing it correctly. Also will be doing an oil change.
  16. Ours has the same leak. wasn;t sure what it was until they said it was the transmission cooling pipe, and of course warranty co.,does not cover it. they said they have to drop the engine to get access to it and change it. Something like $1600 or so to repair. Sounds like it could be a common problem and PCNA should be picking up the tabs. fill a report with the NHTSA and see what happens! I am taking mine to an indy shop, to see if anything else can be done.
  17. send them COD, along with a pair of dirty undershorts. tell them this was the end result of the design failure of the brake lines. See how fast they decide to send you a check for your troubles!!
  18. call sunset imports. there link is towards the top of the page here. (it says porsche parts at dealer costs).' they can walk you through which brakes are for your vehicle and will have the best prices around. very easy job to do also.
  19. got it. that is kind of what I thought. I will wait to get it here. thanks again for a great site!!
  20. I received an e-mail from mycarstats.com, saying that there were 2 new TSB's for the 04 cayenne s. 1 is for bad ignition coils : SERVICE BULLETIN:2820 NHTSA ITEM NUMBER:10022371 MFG Bulletin Date: 20070705 Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:MODULE Bulletin Summary: BAR IGNITION MODULES (COILS) WITH PART NO. 948.602.104.00 AND 948.602.104.01. *KB Date added to datbase: 20070809 and the 2nd is for the TPMS: SERVICE BULLETIN:2207 NHTSA ITEM NUMBER:10022419 MFG Bulletin Date: 20070707 Component: TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS Bulletin Summary: TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS. *KB Date added to datbase: 20070813 I can't seem to find info on them anywhere including in the TSB's here. are they just too new to get or is it something I have to try to get from the dealer? thanks
  21. just curious, i haven't looked in my manual yet, but the mx. checklist on this site and the preferred mx guide I have from a Porsche dealership does not mention changing the drive belt at 60,000miles. it just says to check it. has this changed or should I give the dealer a call before I attempt this myself? thanks
