  1. you can remove the one that holds the ground wire on the valve cover and then match at Home Depot.
  2. I'm in the process of replacing the gas struts, but I"m having a problem finding the correct strut for the powered hatch, I found the ones for the glass but I can't find the correct one for the power hatch does it not have one cause of the power lift?? I found this part number but I'm not sure it's the right one. (955-512-550-07) thanks
  3. Sorry I have not replied. I did not buy the Cayenne it belongs to a friend of mine and I enjoy working on them when I have time so I spend a few days a week fixing stuff. It been fund and I love finding something that is bad from either age or the last repairman messed something up. so far I have replaced both valve cover seals with the cam actuator seals and spark plug tube seals and new spark plugs. I also replaced the vacuum pump and fixed the power brake vacuum hose that was cracked on both ends, I also replaced the purge valve. I also made a new vacuum line from the oil air separator to front timing chain cover out of copper pipe with rubber ends. I was very pleased to see how nice the motor runs now. I also replace the rear hatch actuator to unlock the rear hatch before you would hit the button but it would not unlock you had to use your finger to manually unlock it from the inside. that's fixed now. Right now I have the head liner and the sunshade off and getting ready to clean the old headliner before I put in the headliner but, before I put back the headliner I'm going to replace both struts for the rear hatch, the glass does not stay up at all and the hatch does stay up but it slams when its closing. I also fixed the drivers seat back cover that kept coming off, I ran a screws 1/4 through bottom of the back cover to hold it to the seat. I have to do the same thing to the passenger side seat too. once I have everything fixed inside the car I need to see what the oil leak it has/had is coming from it could be from old valvecover seals that I replaced or the transmission is leaking. when he first dropped off the car the oil leak was massive and now after the work I have done to the car the oil stain is a drop so that may be fixed, but I need to see and make sure. Oh I'm having a problem finding the struts for the hatch the car has the power liftgate, I find the struts for the glass but I can't find for the power lift gate, does it now use struts for the hatch on the power lift get?
  4. So you think it's OK to use the new ones? I think the ones installed are not the OEM one I think they when they replaced the water pipes and starter they may have replaced the seals. thanks for the reply.
  5. Im replacing the intake monifold seals and the new ones are taller than the old one, I have looked up the model numbers on the new and old ones and they are both compatible, not that it matters but I bought them from Rock Auto. but I don't understand why the new ones are much taller than the old one, is it cause they are different brands so different rubber compound? Is this normal? should I use the new ones or reinstall the old ones? this is for a 2008 S Old; Hungary >HNBR< 94811014601 New: Elring 484980
  6. I have the intake and the valve cover off the motor now, I would like to put it back together but will that make removing the transmission harder? I'm also looking for a guide on how to remove the transmission, I have not been able to find anything yet.
  7. thanks for the information. I took the pump off today and it had lots of oil in it, is that normal?
  8. 2008 S. I'm looking for advice and I have a few questions, the Cayenne S that I'm working on that I'm replacing the valve cover gaskets well doing that I found a broken hose, that it turns out to be the vacuum pump hose, while reading up on the vacuum pump I read that they tend to leak and they go bad often, I have not taken it apart yet so I don't know if it has a problem yet but with the Cayenne pushing over 200K I think I should replace it while I have the valve covers off. now the questions. Has anyone replace the vacuum pump yet? Do they go bad as often as I read? how does it leak oil and from where? it looks pretty simple. two oil rings to the head and one in the rear with a backing plate. Does anyone know what the vacuum connection do? the pump had a small vacuum line port with a small vacuum line going into it and a larger line going to the firewall. the strange thing is the large line that I saw cracked on both ends the car still had power brakes where is it getting vacuum from, unless its getting vacuum from the smaller line. one last question. where is it sucking air out of? it can't be the head, or the intake, it is from a manifold that then has lines running to a bunch of different locations? Sorry for all the questions I like to know how things work.
  9. Today while I was removing the passenger side valve cover, which by the way was not easy that last bottom bolt was a bear. I found this hard hose was cracked on both ends, one end went into a line on the firewall that's going into the cab and the other end was going into the head. I'm not sure what that hose does, can it be for the blend door of the AC? Do you know what it is? I don't even know what to call it to order a new line. 2008 Cayenne S
  10. Guys I have the drivers side valve cover off and I'm in the process of cleaning it. I know I need to put a small dab of threebond where the block meets the chains cover. Can I use some threebond to hold all the gaskets in place? when I took the valve cover off it looks like someone already tried to fix the leak but the gasket feel out of its slot and was pinched, they also tried to use silicone to stop a leak on the cam actuator. I read the way to install and torque the bolts is to 7.5 ft lbs in a crisscross pattern starting from the middle of the valve cover and work my way out. If anyone can offer any advice to make the job better and avoid future leaks I would love to hear it. Once I have this one don't I will move to the passenger side. 2008 Cayenne S
  11. I just pulled the new project into the garage. it has a bunch of little things that need to be fixed. but the motor and transmission seam to run and shift fine, the motor does have a rough idle, but I think that cause of the vacuum leak. so far this is list of things that I need to fix, I'm sure the list will get bigger as I start to fix stuff. today when I was driving the car into the garage I saw a bunch of alerts on the dash. 1: The vacuum line coming from the timing chain cover to the oil separator is cracked and its held together with duct tape, yes duct tape. I'm going to make a metal hard line to replace the hard plastic line. 2: Valve covers have to come off on both sides. when I smoked the intake I saw smoke coming out from the cam advance actuators, I'm thinking its not supposed to do that. I would think that should be sealed cause if air can get out so can oil, I also think the oil leak might be coming from valve covers too. 3: I'm told the AC is not working, I have not tried it yet, one thing at a time right, so I don't know what it could be, I was given a new (used) compresser. 4: The rear hatch does not open and say the hatch is open on the dash. when you push the button on the glass that does open, so its not a fuse, I'm thinking actuator. 5: Rear passenger seat does not unlock to fold down. 6: Drivers side front seat the back cover fell off. 7: The headliner is coming off. so far the fix that was used was tacks and duct tape. 8: More to come as I work on the car, fix one thing and find something else that needs fixing.
  12. Thanks Loren not sure how to do that. Unplug the fuel line and fill a glass and see how much I get in 30 seconds?
  13. Hello a friends 08 Cayenne S is having a strange problem. he tells me if he drives up to the gas statation and shuts the car off and removed the gas cap and puts gas in the car it wont start right away he needs to crank it over for a few then it starts and it will start fine from now on till he puts gas in the truck again. Here is what I'm thinking. with the cap on I guessing we have a positive pressure in the tank and that primes the low pressure pump to get fuel to the high pressure pump. when he open's the fuel cap he losses this pressure and the pump losses it prime.
