  1. Hard to believe a reputable dealer would deal like that. This would be the equivalent of letting the selling broker in a real estate transaction choose the inspector, which is a bad idea because the inspector will have every incentive to please the recurring source of business and not the one-timer (you). There will always be gray items that could go either way and you can bet that if this guy does a lot of business with the dealer there is a strong financial incentive for the gray items to not be included and anger the recurring source of business. Also if these guys already worked on it for him and missed something or made a mistake, it would be not be good for them if they found it later in the PPI.
  2. Thanks for the input. Turns out it passed the water test. Got a reasonable price break. Totally their fault.
  3. So all the lights in the right headlamp assembly failed. All on separate fuses so figured it had to be a loose connector. While re-inserting the headlamp assembly, the black plastic housing breaks - the one that holds the female side of the headlamp connector (light blue and orange) in place so that the other end that is attached to the headlamp assembly plugs into it when inserted, so now the female side is not attached, fortunately there was enough slack that I could manually plug it into the headlamp assembly, but any thoughts on how bad if an idea it is to just leave it plugged in without any additional securing? Also after looking at parts diagram I see a breather tube that I should have connected to the electrical connector, dreading removing it because something is wrong and it is very difficult to re-align and reassemble the headlamp assembly. What in the world does an electrical connector need a breather tube for? I know I have to go back and fix, but what is that for? thanks, in advance.
  4. So at long last, after months of research I buy my first Porsche, a mint 2001 C4 that was in unusually great condition - clearly babied by someone who is as car OCD as me. I bring it to the local Porsche dealer for a PPI and they find $6k of items, clutch, leaking plug tubes, annual maint,... Fine I bring it to them on a Tuesday for the recommended repairs, after a 6-hour wax minor scratch detailing session. Not really anywhere near done Fri so I drop in on saturday and discover to my horror a big puddle of water on the service front seat covers, I tell the service rep guy, he goes back to the car, comes back and says that he dumped the water out, spilled a bit between the seat and jamb but toweled it up, says it rained hard all day friday and must be leakig, I say ok and leave, I get paranoid and go back sunday to check it in the lot and the back seat carpets are wet and the front seat has large patches that have been baked in the sun to a stiff cardboard texture, the grain is all irregular as well, looks terrible. 12 years of perfect care and within days at the dealer enough damage to give me a heart attack. I had previously washed the car with a hose and SOAKED the soft top washing it without a drop inside. No matter what this is getting fixed, but I am stumped how this could happen. They will do a water test, but if it passes, then I think its their nickle to fix it. Any one heard of this happening, how could that much water get in? It was not the usual plugged drain thing that dumps in the rear footwell, it was on the front drivers seat, at least two cups. Any guidance appreciated. many thanks in advance.
