I just bought a 2003 Boxster S with a clear bra and just want to make sure I take care of it properly. I'm assuming I should avoid the bra when waxing the rest of the car? Is there any care other than regular washing for the bra?

Depends on which version you may have. The 3M PPF already comes with a clear coat so you needn't worry too much, while the Ventureshield PPF is without (but a better material IMHO). You can wash and wax either one with no problem but watch out for the treatment collecting on the edges. Use a toothpick to run down the length and it clears straight away.

Also, don't use a power wash on them. You may either lift up the edges or score the material leaving obvious marking.

Well i would suggest that if you don't hear anything from that end when you activate the lock actuator then you're looking at a faulty unit. Otherwise, have you checked the fuses or do you know if something has got caught (such as a fabric) within the latch and locking mechanism?

If the car has warranty, then a simple visit to the OPC should be enough to get you back up and running.

Can you hear the actuator firing or does it not even work when either of the opening buttons are pressed?

Try pushing lightly down on the latch when opening via the buttons. There is an emergency cable but try to narrow down the issues first.

IIRC, there is a TSB on odd behaviour with homemade CD's. Can't recall if it applies to the PCM or not but a quick call to the OPC should confirm.

Well if the vehicle is still within the warranty, you can make a simple call to your nearest OPC and hand them the VIN number. From this they will decide from their records whether the fix is available.

I've just had a look at my files and i think the TSB was refferenced W610. It was also a worksop campaign item meaning its not a recall in the traditional sense, but rather one that will only be carried out if the customer notices the underlying issues.

I have seen reference made to "CD text capable radio". I have an early 2005 Carrera S with Nav. I cannot play MP3s in my slot loaded CD player. Does this also mean that my radio isnt "CD text capable"? The reason I ask is that I want to buy the Denison ICE unit or my iPod, but if the song names do not come up on my PCM unit, I do not think the expense would be worth it. Thank you.

CD Text relates to a novelty feature that music CD's contain the details of the track on-disc negating the need to input album/track names each time.

Its not connected to the MP3 system which itself uses a different system for displaying the name information.

To get the track-specific information up on-screen it will depend on the interconnecting equipement you use. In this case with the Dension, i believe it will.

Other than that, is there anything else I should be looking out for? Also, the colour is noted as "Slate Grey". Every other one I had seen was called "Seal Grey". Does anyone know why there is a discrepancy?

Slate is also a more expensive optional colour to spec than the more common Seal Grey. IMHO, its a nicer grey than Seal.

I didn't know there was another SMan; my quest for a unique nic has been foiled again. I am not the Sman you are referring to.

Why is the Boxster cheaper than its hardtop counterpart? Just typical Porsche marketing.

But Slate was among a select few colours that were markedly more expensive than the standard and regular optional colours.

Did your dealer do the firmware upgrade so you can use the newer DVD?

As I recall there are several upgraded that must be done by the dealer to use the newer DVD software.

I bought the DVD on the internet. Do I really have to go to my dealer ?

Yes, and IIRC they will unfortunately charge you an arm and a leg for the upgrade disks making the whole thing very prohibitive. Its somewhat of an issue in the UK atm.

Have noticed the air conditioning is not blowing very cold last few times. Maybe a little cold but not enough to be comfortabel when it is hot outside. I'm going to take it in next week. Just wondered if anyone has had this issue and what the fix was? My car is a 2000 C2. Any thoughts? Thanks.

It could be the valves in the backpipes. Have a peek underneath and you should see an actuating lever that controls the valve. You should see if it's siezed or not.
