  1. part # on the fluid? :cursing: j/k but seriously, does anyone know the part # on the relay? parts guy just told me he only finds an emergency flashers relays- not sure its the same...
  2. So I've read the other posts on blinker issues, but this seems odd. My blinker inside the front headlight is not flashing. Driver side/ left turn is. When operating blinker and looking at dash the left turn flashes too fast and right turn flashes normal. Hazards work except for that passenger side front blinker light. Headlight or relay problem? Ideas?
  3. Agreed, the iPod gives much more control-ability. Since it thinks the usb is a remote cd changer it "sees" only 6 "CDs." You can put an album or collection (playlist) into each "CD" but if you have more than six the rest (after the first 6 by alphabetical naming) aren't seen. I'm using a gen3 iPod and have ordered a 30pin to lightning adaptor (not from dension) and we'll see if that will allow me to also use the itunes that I have on my iPhone6. Cheers! I have some pics of install if anyone is interested, too.
  4. thanks for response, Machster. Its working today! When I got in to run over to the shop it connected and everything works as advertised. I connected to the battery terminal and a solid ground on the body. I can listen to either usb drive or iPod. If the problem arises again I'll recheck all my connections as something could be loose. I know I've wired the optical cables correctly or it wouldn't work at all, and I'm confident that if it's a loose connections it's not in the ipod cable since that and usb work (or nothing does). Now to burn all my CDs to usb...
  5. So I had the CDC turned on this morning by my local indy. The I competed install of the Dension gateway lite gwl1mo1 when the correct optical cable arrived this afternoon. I did the car configuration for Porsche. I have no audio whatsoever from the headunit. Its odd because I did- that is, things worked (it played my dash CD, FM, and detected the usb and the iPod reading CDC on the headunit) and then it didn't. Any suggestions. Do I need to have the CDC activated while it is connected?
  6. Thanks for the invites swaff and jonesmd! Thanks All- for info. I'm really starting to think, Why not? Could be a good reset for my mind before the next stage of my life. So I-40 through cities (St Louis, OK city, etc.)- do I need to avoid traffic/ certain times, certain roads? When I get further west- what's your recommendations for grand canyon and hoover dam touring? Any other suggestions?
  7. Thanks, creekman. Wait a minute... u put a V8 in Porsche!?!? I'd ship the car via a carrier and fly out if I didn't drive. P.S. It has the LN IMS bearing before anybody starts in with that...
  8. So I'm moving from NJ to San Francisco in March (mid)/ Have a 2003 996 with 37000+ miles/ Don't have deadline to be there, so I'm thinking of driving. Am I crazy to think about this in this car? Considerations: I'm 51 and have never done this drive, however my lower back isn't what it used to be. I don't have SiriusXM. Car carrier + airfare would be cheaper. If I do it, should I avoid the upper crossing over the rockies to avoid weather and go through AZ (and which highways)? I have all seasons on 17's now. Other thoughts?
  9. So popped for a PPI on a 1999 vehicle I was very serious about. Came back clean- no RMS leak/ running strong, etc- full written report, paid him. I found out (won't say how) that another buyer had a PPI on the car recently elsewhere. I called the second garage (dealer- I did not pay) and while they didn't share the report for the other guy they let on that they found RMS leak and bank 1 cam seal leak. Also recommended a tune up. This second mechanic said it was possible that the seller did some work after the first report, but when I checked the seller made clear that they didn't. So my question (if I should see this in future b/c I'm walking away from this one) is about appearance of the problem and trust. Do the leaks appear and then not? Seems unlikely. I suppose the underside can be cleaned but wouldn't this be obvious? Is a dealer who sells used cars gonna knock an indy lot's car hoping you buy from them? Are they gonna recommend a tune up on every used car because its so profitable for them? Is the guy you pay more reliable to me then the one you don't? Is a dealer better or worse for reliable PPI? Thnx
  10. Noob here, shopping for a 996. I have now seen two for-sale 2002 vehicles on the big websites with 911 badging on the rear instead of the expected Carrera. When I encountered the first I thought it was simply a previous user's change, but two of the same year?? I know the 2004 40th anniversary should have this but does anyone know if any 2002's did? And if so if it an indication of any option? I have not visited the cars to examine their options stickers yet. Thanks!
