Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, easy to add?

Assuming that option code 482 (TPMS) is what we are talking about... because I don't see it on my option list or in the OBC display.

Could you add this after the fact? Wouldn't you have to remove the tires to install the remote sensors?

If you add the sensors, can this be 'added' to the OBC?

In addition to a sensor and new valve for each wheel (ran $76/wheel for my Touareg from Tire Rack a few years ago), you would have to add the monitoring modules for each wheel and TPMS controller for the system, along with the various wiring harnesses. I think the parts and labor could easily be over $2000 :eek:

You can buy a complete SmarTTire system for $250.

I haven't checked out the Porsche TPMS but the SmarTTire system looks pretty nice and you can move it to a 2nd car by purchasing new wheel sensors.

That is a pretty cool add-on system, price is right too.

But for me it was to have it integrated into the car's OBC.
