Hey guys, sorry for this probably fequently asked type of question. Long story short I may be trading one of my vehicles for a '97 Boxster. It's silver with red leather, immaculate condition, w/ only 35K miles and all factory options. Nada lists it at $17,000 low retail, and $20,000 high retail.

So what do you guys believe is the "real world" cash price for this car? I'm trying to work my trade based on the cash values of each of our cars.

I researched a bit recently for a different reason, but

I think it should be around 15k for 97. For 20k, I would definately look for 2000 or 2001.

It's winter and you have plenty of choices(even low mileage like 25k-45k). IMHO.

That looks exactly like my 1997 when I bought it used in 1999 for $43K with 16K miles. But my 4 spoke steering wheel was not upside-down.

Times have sure changed with the used Boxster market.

I agree with jinizaz. Get that thing for $15K or keep on looking. There were only 165,00 Boxsters made....

Actually the 200,000 was produced this month.

1. '97s are the least desirable Boxster. Every new model has initial problems that are fixed in subsequent years and '97 was the Boxster's first year.

2. We have no idea of the real options. The build sticker would tell him if he knew how to read the information encoded there (see link).

3. We have no idea where he lives and thus the influence of winter on roadster prices.

4. We have no maintenance history. A car with a replacement engine would be more valuable than one with the original in the case of a '97 or '98.

paid $12,400 for my 97 with 60K miles and little history. turned out to be perfect other then typical issues common to all 986 (horn, ignition switch, SRS light).

i'd rate the body and interior an 8 out 10.

you need to check ebay as i've seen some amazing stuff under 15K this week on 97-99s...
