Potential corrosion problem beneath the door latch striker plate

Recommended Posts

The Boxster TSB 2/99 5726 – New Door Striker identifies a potential corrosion issue with Boxster with a VIN earlier than 98_YS 62 0343. Guess what, mine falls in this category. According to the TSM the door latch striker plate needs to be replaced with a item. Apparently the new striker plate is equipped with a film (on the side that contacts the body) to prevent corrosion.

Peter Morgan’s Buyers’ Guide also discusses this topic but if I remember correctly rectified the problem by fitting a special gasket between the striker plate and the body.

Any previous experiences and advice will be appreciated.

I have never seen this condition in sunny California. However I have seen a few complaints over the years on UK message boards. There is a 10 year warranty on the body, but Porsche gave the UK owners a hard time.

This is Benny's picture. Looks like rust throught the paint around the striker plate. He also had this near one of the side vents.
