Idle Speed

Recommended Posts

My car (99) idles at about 850 rpm. With the a/c on the idle remains the same. When I'm coming to stop and push the clutch in the engine rpm drops to about 600 and then rises to 850 almost stalling. Also when starting out from a stop with a/c on it is difficult to have a smooth takeoff.

Is there a method to raising idle speed to about 1000 rpm? Is there a idle speed solinoid when a/c is on?

Thanks in advance

Carl, take it by your dealer, describe the problem, and ask for the DME reprogram. Porsche slightly altered the DME program in later models to make the clutch-in idle response better. Should be free.

In answer to your other question, no there is not an idle solenoid that I am aware of. The DME reads a signal from the AC control unit in the dash and modifies the fuel input directly.

Idle should be 750 RPM per the spec.

If the car is new to you it may take a while to get smooth starts. The flywheel is pretty light (although there are lighter ones available), the clutch engagement range is narrow, and it engages higher than e.g. a Japanese car. I stalled mine a lot before getting it right and I've driven stick my entire life.
