Squeaking/winding sound

Recommended Posts

Hi all

The car is a 98´Boxster TipTronic with 67.000 km (41.000 miles) on it.

The sound is very annoying and pretty loud. Sometimes the engine has to warm up before it occurs. The sound increases as the RPMs rise (but is much slower than the actual RPM). It becomes very clear when accelerating from low RPMs in high gear.

It sounds very much like a loose belt of sorts.

I have removed the cover behind the seats to inspect the belt and I pretty sure it is'nt the cause of the sound. While having the cover off, the sound was clearer when I stuck my head next to the left rear wheel.

I have read descriptions of similar problems being related to the Oil and Air seperator, but any insights are appreciated. The local garage can't help me and the nearest Porsche dealer is 200km away otherwise i would go straight to them and i would like to tell what to fix/expect before I make the trip.

Please help
