I was heading back from a great DE event at Putnam Park put on by the Central Indiana PCA when an IL trooper hit me with a laser. First time I have seen it used in our area.

So I am thinking about a laser difuser, i think there is one called the M25 Blinder or something.

Then I read that they are illegal in IL.

Two questions,

1 do they work?

2 how illegal are they and as a practical matter do people get caught?

Thanks

Beware of the conclusions from these "independent" testers. If you do some searching on them, they almost all have some sort of agenda.

FWIW, I bought the Escort ZR3 http://www.escortradar.com/zr3.htm because it has three separate emitters (two front, one back), and because it integrates with my Escort 8500 X50. I hosestly can't tell you if it works or not, as I've yet to get shot by a laser unit since I installed it.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like Radar Roy has some running fued with Rocky Mountain Radar.

MGlobe, are you in a state where the laser difusers are technically illegal?

It sounds like a great solution but I don't want to cause more problems by trying to avoid speeding tickets.

Thanks

I had the Passport SR7Plus installed by Porsche Nashua in Nashua N.H. They removed the front and rear bumper covers and did an excellent job. I've posted pictures of the final job at the link below.

I had the display velcro-mounted on top of the steering column, as far back as it'll go, flush with the dash, and the mute button instaled on the left of the steering column so can just tap it with my left finger to mute when needed.

The mute button on the SR7Plus also acts to deactivate the laser shfiters on demand with two quick taps, in case you're fired upon and you have adjusted your speed to within reasonable limits and would like to now let the nice laser-gun-wielding offficer read your new "legal" speed.

The mute button also adjusts the speaker volume. I have a 2006 C4 Cabriolet, so I also opted for the optional amplified speaker, (it's noisy with the top down in summertim and radio playing, etc), which the Porsche tech was able to install deep up under the dash on the driver's side, up front near the steering column, pointed at me.

Pretty sweet, and nothing clogging up my windsheild, etc. Pics can be found here:

(PS: For the record, it's saved my bacon about 6 times now and counting....)

I'd repeat on any future P-car I might get, no question.

Hope that helps.

Damon

I had th K40 POS installed on my previous 996 and it doesn't work at all! I had a Deputy Sheriff that is from the neighborhood to test it with his laser gun (he was curious because he wanted one for himself if it worked) and he was able to get my speed on his gun. My K40 detected his measuring attempt but didn't jam or hid me from his gun. Absolutely worthless!!! I don't know about other brands but I am very, very sceptical about it.

I agree on the K40. I found one on a used 996 that I bought. If it weren't for the cost to remove it, it would be gone. I currently have the Escort with Z shifters. I put all three laser heads up front, as no one ever gets hit in the rear with Laser! If someone is shooting rear plates, unless you are the only car on the road, you should pick it up from your detector. I will let you know if i am wrong, after i pay my ticket.

I had an installed Bel RX75 on my Boxster, and two heads on laser up front was enough to save my bacon several times.

Laser Veil also gets good reviews, but I wouldn't want it on my headlights- license plate only for me.
