Cab Top Won't Open All The Way

Recommended Posts

I just took the hardtop off (it's going to be in the 70s here today and tomorrow) and the soft top won't open all the way. The top itself goes down, but the body portion won't lower all the way (see pic). Any ideas?

I know it's dirty and I'm in my PJs. :P

I had the same thing happen to mine and the dealer fixed it under warranty. The two flap mechanisms on the side the fold up and down (depending on location) needed to be replaced. They are the ones at the ends of the roll bar section that "connect" cosmetically between the body and the "roll bar deck". Hope this give you some help.

Of course, mine happened the same time (on the d*mn weekend). So until Monday, what I did is if it the flap on the drivers side that is getting caught up, then use the key to open the top and "help" the flap. If it is the other side, use the button in the dash and have somebody help the other flap. Then I just left the down down til Monday and had topless fun for the weekend!

Looks like a replacement is in the works. When they replaced mine, I had them replace the ENTIRE housing (both flaps and the middle section the covers the rollbars). They did fully under warranty. Initially they were just going to do the one flap but my argument was since this is a CAB, the fabric color fades faster and if they replace just the one flap it will be a different shade and look wierd. They said "good point" we will replace the ENTIRE housing.

I wouldn't say a lot. It's got little over 18k miles on it and the hardtop's on about 30% of the time. I close the soft top all the time, unless I'm just running in some place for a few minutes. Though many days I'll drive to Seattle or Vancouver (80 miles each way) and just open it once each way.

EDIT/UPDATE - After washing and double waxing I got it down :) Just in time for a topless ride to Easter Sunday brunch on Lummi Island. :jump:

My lil' bro' brought his Turbo up and we took the ferry out there.

Met up with a Boxster at brunch (get that hardtop off!!!).

Then back home to check out his new stereo (an extra 200lbs !! :D )

And the obligatory photo shoot.

We had our first decent few days this Easter weekend. Took the hard top off. We went out for a drive in Wales. I put the top up when we went for a walk and on return I opened the top again. I had exactly this problem. I tried opening and closing the top at least 4 times. Same thing every time. Finally I remembered, you have to do this on a level surface. The surface I was on was totally flat but slightly out of level. I found a level surface and tried to close the top. It closed properly first time and it hasn't given me any problems since.
