X51 engine upgrade and tiptronic transmission

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have a question (please don't laugh or roll your eyes as you read this):

I know Porsche states the X51 engine upgrade is not available for 996 Tiptronic cars (mine is a 2002 C2 with tip). However it is available for 997 Carrera S models. My question is: WHY is it not available for 996's with tip transmissions? Aside from the third radiator in front being utilized for the transmission, is there any other known reason why it can't be fitted to a tip car? If it is just the third front radiator issue, could this not be worked around?

OK, so that's 3 questions. But I have searched all the posts and haven't been able to find any discussion on this.

Thanks in advance!

Ron.

I believe the only reason the X51 was not offered on a Tip was the requirement for the additional center radiator for cooling of the motor not being available on the Tip. There appears to be no other reason, physical or electronic, for not putting an X51 in a Tip.
