head spacer

Recommended Posts

well i now they got these for the vr6(VW) motor. im trying to fab together a turbo kit for my boxter. Now iver heard that they have high comp. and have attendency to blow under boost. so i figured if my buddy can machine a head spacer for me i might be able to work somethine out besides getting a rebuild or a turbo motor swap. Let me now if any of you have heard of this being done. do you think timing would be a big issue. Ive had this thing for about 4 years now and i havent found much information on any turbo kit besides ones that are $20k. Im not woried about fitment or anything else because ill be making all my own parts. I am worried about tunning but ive heard of a few places that i might be able to get that done. if you guyes now anything on this let me know.

thanks   :)

I've thought about the exact same thing. It sure would beat the price of custom pistons. There's a few guys around with turbos. They didn't pay 20k though, more like 10k (I think). That’s a whole kit and caboodle; complete with all the tuning done (timing, injection, etc.).

With intercooling or Wi (water/alcohol injection you can get about 6 psi or about 80 odd more hp. The most an un-intercooled setup seems to be able to take is 4.5 psi.

I’ working on boosting my supercharger boost with WI. Mine has a separate (AIC) piggyback controller for a 7th injector tuning. I’ll probably replace it with a better one with timing control …not looking forward to mapping it from scratch though.

Regards, PK

P.S. If your looking to cob it together yourself, Split Second make a AIC fore Boxsters with some level of tuning done. Handle timing and injector control. Programmable with a pc

well i got the water/alch injection on my talon and i love it going to be able to boost about 27 this summer. but 4.5psi seems like nothing not even in the 300's yet. I got a couple turbos and intercoolers layin around. Theres plenty of room in this thing. I also got a couple secondary injection harnesses with everything layin around garage so thats what i was planning on doing. Or just go with like an autronics complete standalone ecu but thats pricy.

I talked to a couple shops around me and they said that you cant run piggy backs on these, at least not from their knowledge. Like vw &audi there ecu's with overun the piggy back system. So i think giac said they could mabey come up with something. And maybe run secondary injection to take care of the fuel. I wanted to make a twin turbo setup though (at least thats what i was planning) but what ever works easiest is alright for me.

would you know the companies that made those kit. id like to take a look at what there using

thanks, Brad

Here's a kit $6-8k depending on your set up, http://turbowerx.com/

A spacer works on many other cars, I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work for the Boxster. Considering the motor will have to be cracked anyway, the extra expense of forged pistons may be worth it. The pluses would be, timing won't be affected and they'll be a lot more tolerant of detonation and tuning mistakes. For $700, it's cheap insurance and you get the exact CR to boot.
