Particles in oil filter

Recommended Posts

Good morning -- I changed my oil in my 1999 996 yesterday. Per your DIY instructions --- they were great. I noticed some Permatex or liqiud gasket sealer particles stuck in the oil filter. The prior owner had the lower cyl heads resealed and it appears the liqiud sealer is from the inside of the case. Did this harm the bearings or internals in any way?????

Also I drained my oil the prescribed 20 minutes --but was still getting a little out so put a smaller oil catch pan under the car and left over nite. I got about another cup or more oil when I checked the next morning. That engine holds a lot of oil and it is best to drain overnite if possible.

I also noticed that I do not have the heat shields over the plugs or coil packs --- do I need these ?????? In my opinion Porsche always over engineers its cars some holders etc are really not needed is this the case with the heat shields ?????

Thanks,

Chuck996
