You can't get the clock-only on the screen, but if you hit the "Trip" button on the Nav, select Sport Display... or something like that... it'll start counting laps for you that you can store and review later.

A great feature for a DIY hack or upcoming release would be an external trigger on the PCM lap timer integrated with a Traqmate, G2X or even a Hot Lap...
