Spoiler and garage switch 'MOD' question

Recommended Posts

Hello again,

I've installed the spoiler and garage switchs in my dash and they work great, except they do not light up when I turn the car lights on. I have a "TC" (traction Control) switch on the upper left side and I put the new switches below it, and used the two outter plugs for the light...but the new switches don't come on. The "TC" letter light up, when the lights are on, and the little round light comes on when I put the "TC" switch in the off position.

Did I miss something in the 'how-to'? Should I go over to the other switches and tap into one of those (top is door lock, middle is rear de-fogger, bottom is rear wiper)?

Thanks for any help,

Yes, in order to have the button light up (eg: when the lights are on) you will need to tap into a nearby button. If I remember correctly, I made a Y connector that went in between the stock illumination wire to the original button and the second part of the Y went to my mod button.

I did both these mods, and had the same problem, and I tried tapping all switches on the console. I got them to light up, but when lights are on, the spoiler kept going up and down by itself, and the garage would open or close just by turning the lights on. So right now, they are not lit. The lights in the switch are LED lights, because if you use the wrong polarity, they do not light up. It also looks like the 2 outer connectors on the switch, are also hooked up internally to the middle connectors on the switch, (maybe a resistor or capacitor)thats why my spoiler kept going up and down when the lights are on. I was going to try and open the switch, and make sure there are no internal connections to the center switch terminals we are using. I will try to tackle this as soon as I get some free time. It should be very basic, but I am sure the problem is in the switch. Some people say they got it working, but ???? maybe they can shed some light. By the way, I am using window switches I had laying around, but I don't think this is the problem.

Thanks, I'll have to try this when I get home. If, with the lights on, the spoiler and garage door don't just start working I'm guessing that the switches are hooked-up correct? Still not sure why the 'TC' switch will light up (when lights are turned on) and the new switches don't, even though I wired the 'TC' pos (+) and neg (-) post to both the same ones (outter on one side and outter on the other side) on the other two switches????

Just wanted to make sure ya'll understand what I did......I used 'SCOUSER' (thanks) write-up for the spoiler switch (part number 996 613 155 00 A02) and 'ORIENT EXPRESS' (thanks) write-up for the garage opener switch (part number 966 613 119 10 A05; this switch had a mattie finish how ever). Both switches are working as they should, just don't light up when the cars lights are on. This is no big deal, just would make it 'Perfect' - if you know what I mean.

Again, thanks for all your help,

Okay, I started the engine and turned the lights on and the spoiler nor garage door did anything....until....I pushed the buttons; and as expected, they worked as they should! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that the switches work, as they should, but I'm not glad that they don't light up with the rest of the interior lights???

So I'll have to take the switch plate back off and see if I can find anything (I'm old school.....must 'touch' everything to see if it isn't as it should be???) wrong with my wiring.

I'll let ya'll know if I find anything,

C'ya,

C'ya,

I did the exact same mods and placed in the exact same spot. I tapped into TC switch for the light and ran to my spoiler switch, which was in the middle opening. I then tapped into the spoiler switch lights and went to the garage door switch at the bottom. By the way I took some clear gloss and sprayed my spoiler switch which had the matt finish and matched the gloss to the other buttons. Looks great!

Yes, I think we did it the same.....BUT, do your switches light up when the headlight switch is turned on?????? If so, I really do need to take it apart and see what's-up. While I'm at it I can try your "clear gloss spray" on the garage switch.

Thanks for your input.
