Vaccuum advance- 77 2.7L

Recommended Posts

Just checking that my vaccuum hoses are hooked up OK....I get full vacuum at idle on my advance line and as I load up the engine the vaccuum decreases. I am going to check the timing tommorrow to verify that the decreasing vacuum does in fact advance the timing as it is a little bizarre to me.

The problem I am getting is that the engine lopes along when running along at a constant speed kind of like a chugging feeling. It also back fires out the exhaust in neutral and if I hammer it and let off. The wires are old as well as the plugs so I plan to replace these as well.

I bought a new cap and rotor (with a spring activated cutout) and put them in. The other thing that I notice is that when I loosen the distributor clamp down bolt and just gently bump the distributor, the engine dies and there sounds like alot of arcing is going on inside the distributor....
