Recomendation needed for clutch and lightweight flywheel

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So the RMS is broken after some trackdays. Probably even before that.

Never the less i was thinking that i might as well change the clutch and install a lightwheight flywheel. I have spent hours and hours reading the posts on what should be my next purchase but i can't really find any recommendations on what set up to go for. And i know based on my own thinking that everyone has their own opinion on how they want the car to handle. So what I'm looking for is a combo that people have tested and that works.

I'm new to this and on my second year of tracking the car so i value your opinion.

This is how I drive: I track the car 2-4 times a month and use it for "active driving" every time i don't need to bring anyone more then my girlfriend ;)

This is what I drive: a Boxster S 2002 with M030 ROW and street tires.

Regards,

Thomas

[Thomas,

You lucky man! 2-4 times on the track per month is certainly a treat.

I have a 2000 996 C2 and recently installed the AASCO LWFW. I still had the very new unsprung clutch which is fine if you don't mind the gear clatter / low rpm grinding (which I believe is harmless, but we'll see in the next 10K miles or so), but next time I'd go for the Sachs sprung clutch. Maybe something more heavy duty, but with a LWFW you certainly want something sprung. You will always have some clatter and the Redline Lightweight Shockproof (2.5 qt. for the tranny) does a good job at reducing the clatter.

Horsepowerfreaks.com has a good deal on the AASCO and I guess Sunset is the place to go for the Sach clutch kit. You probably also want to replace the pressure plate and throw out bearing at this time with something compatible to the clutch set-up you choose.

Let me know what you decide on putting in.

Joost
