I have been trying to complete the documentation of the service history for my P-car. When I contacted my dealer, they could only pull all records of work they did. Prior to my ownership, the car was originally sold and maintained in the East Coast. I called Porsche NA and they provided me with the contact of the dealer in the East Coast and advised that it was not an issue for me to obtain them. When I first contacted that dealership, they told me it wasn't possible because of "confidentiality of the first owner". When I escalated it to the Service Manager, he provided the history to me but only verbally. That leaves me short of a documented service history.

Is this consistent with your experiences and is this something worth escalating to Porsche NA? It just seems bizarre that Porsche would be so disinterested in people wanting to maintain service histories and thus diminishing the value of OPC servicing!

When I bought my car, I was able to determine the dealership who originally services the car through the CarFax report. I called the delaership and gave them my VIN and they faxed me all service records no questions asked. Not sure why they wouldn't as long as you can prove you are the current owner of the car.

The policy varies from dealership to dealership. You have no right to the service history for a vehicle you did not own when it was serviced. That belongs to the former owner. At least you got a verbal history. I am on a few UK Porsche message boards and they go through the same thing.

My dealer will give out the history. I have checked out cars for friends that were thinking of buying. But then I have known the folks at my dealer for 9 years.

Any delaer can pull warranty and recall history since that gets billled to Atlanta. But for service such as an oil change you have to go to the dealer that did the work.

If you can find the original owner you might get the owner to authorize the dealer to give you the history.
