Finally found a couple of local Boxster's that take my fancy. One has done only 12,000kms

though a 97 Model White the same as my current SLK, the other a 2000 Model with 78,000kms

(last 2 services only minor) due for FRONT brakes now ($1200) and REAR perhaps between service

($1000), wheel allignment DUE NOW ($200) and SPARK PLUGS and SEALS are OVERDUE.

After having found the Green one, I hesitated because of a "tappets" like sound from the vent

after the doors. So I got a secondary porsche "dealer" to give me a paid for pre-inspection report,

the sound is still there and apparently is normal despite myself having not heard this sound from

a Boxster with 129,000kms on the clock and another with 11,000kms, the White one above.

I was abit dissapointed in the report, not of it's content, but realizing these cars were specialized

and inexperienced "mechanics" were charging very high rates. I just wish I had one of those

Durametric Code Scanners. worth googling

They guy who did the inspection and had at least serviced it the last time if not both times it was

there from the invoices I've seen, told me he had never done a spark plug change and when asked

a second time to extimate the cost, could not even guestimate!

Anyways, over all that, if I get the Green one it will happen in 4 days as its the end of the financial

year. If it doesn't work out, I'll get the code reader and keep you posted about the next one im

interested in :D (Min Spec's if your selling are Yr 2000)

It takes longer to jack the car up, put it on jack stands, and remove the front wheels, than it does to replace the rotors and pads. I paid the labor on that particular job once. That was the last time. I can buy a set of Powerslot rotors ($170 or so at Tire Rack) and a set of Pagid or PFC pads (typically around $200) and install them myself in under 30 minutes. Paying $1200 for someone else to do it is not my idea of a Good Thing™. A job like this is far too easy to pass off on a shop. I'm happy to let them dig around in the transmission or engine, but the brakes are designed to be simple for the average Joe to be able to do.

PS I'm not a mechanic, and I'm just average or less when it comes to using hand tools.
