alternator removal and brittle plastic

Recommended Posts

Finally tackled my starter motor, air and electric changeover valve replacement this weekend. Everything mostly ok except little plastic parts that are extremely brittle and snap like balsa wood:( Example in pic below(part # 996.106.226.51). But the main issue for me is the ALTERNATOR!!! Is there some sort of magic trick to get this thing back in place?!?!?!?! I've been working on it for quite some time now and can't get it in and rotated back into place....it's killling me!!! Thanks for letting me vent. oh and now i partially snapped the curled electric changer over pipe and have it wrapped in electricians tape, classic huh:( lol

if you do a search in the diy section, you should find good instructions there. I replaced mine fairly quickly with the help of diy instructions on replacing the emissions air mixing valve thing-a-ma-bobber...which included removal/replacement of the alternator.

yeah..i followed all the directions and it went well. Just took longer. But now I know how things work. getting the alternator back in place required a longer screwdriver jacked under the alterntor on the right side and then pressure plus WD40 on the back bushing to get it in place. Finally I can make serveral stops without having to wait for the engine to cool down before I cranked it up again! lol
